Is it really worth it Kate to give up your kids privacy for fame??![]()
evidently, it is.
and not just Jon and Kate Gosselin. Any family who puts their children on TV for monetary gain.

I think Kate's show is a test, to see if she can carry a show on her own. It's called Twist of Kate and apparently will chronicle her doing various jobs and offering insight where she can. I'm pretty curious to see if she'll manage it or not. I hope she does and then hopefully Kate+8 can go back on the shelf and not on tv. A perfect compromise would be Kate's show going forward with a yearly update on the kids. That would be smart and I'd actually watch that. Then it wouldn't be a regular job for the kids.
TLC isn't stupid, they know they have a much better chance at higher ratings with the kids rather than just Kate. At least I think so anyway. So yes, the kids are back at work and Kate has called it 'our family job'. Weird though since she has in the past always claimed that the kids are just playing, not working.![]()
.
Think of all the movies that have child actors. The parents will tell you, their child wants to act, but the parent has to put the child into the system, they sure as heck don't just get their by themselves. So basically any child actor has parents that want their child to act for monetary gain.evidently, it is.
and not just Jon and Kate Gosselin. Any family who puts their children on TV for monetary gain.
I agree we shouldn't call it the original name Jon and Kate Plus 8, but it should be called something similar. We could go with the other thread, but I have a feeling it could get ugly over there once the show starts. Way back, I think 3 years ago, I started this thread and there was another thread about the Gosselins, and it got shut, because of all the bickering. I would really hate for that to happen, and then I couldn't have the guilty pleasure discussing the show.Yep, but I think on the Kate & 8 show, TLC is going to minimize the kids' participation and focus more on Kate. The DOL is now watching. That link above pretty much said that they are limiting the filming of the kids with the new work permits.
That does bring me to an Etiquette Question here on the Dis.
Once this thread reaches 250, we will have to either let it die a natural death or renew it, but I don't think we can (or even should) call any new thread the J & K *Official thread* any more, let alone part 9. Jon and Kate are no more and I never liked the *Official* thing anyway..
We have a new thread for "Kate & 8." Power to them. The majority of the posters there seem just overjoyed by the return of Kate (and kids). I kind of want to leave them to their enjoyment, and not bust their chops with my reservations, especially as I will not be watching that show and can't add anything to the discussion.
So should we have a *Twist of Kate* thread too? I might watch that. Kate garbage collecting will tickle my sense humor and at least she will not be making the kids work on that show. I'm all for Kate earning some $$ without the kids.
Or should we add an *Everything Else Gosselin* thread too? We could discuss Jon's latest transgressions there too.
Of course, my own personal preference would be a thread for reservations on all *Reality TV* children, Duggars, Masches,Table of 12, etc, included, and the (boring) legislation pertaining to their welfare, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that no-one else would post there and it would die! Legislation is really boring, unless you are fascinated by it like me, but it is oh so important.
I am somewhat kidding, as I hope most of you know. Discussion will end up on the most active Gosselin thread. I just wonder which or what it will be.![]()

I see what you're saying ... but I'm not sure I agree it's the same thing. At least with child actors, there are rights/laws/guidelines or whatever the child labor laws cover. They have protection.
But pushy stage parents, be it on TV, movies, pageants, etc. are, to some extent, using their children for financial gain. And we've seen many times the effect that it has on the parent/child relationship -- how many kids in the entertainment business have disassociated themselves from their parents, for whatever reason? I have no doubt there are many who have lasting, good relationships, but as with anything .. we never hear about them.
Where reality TV blurs that line, to me, is when they invite the cameras into the lives of the children. Those kids aren't acting. Their world is on display.
Oh, ugh. Has anyone seen the clip from Kate + 8 on the airboat with the alligator? The girl tup who loves alligators is in HEAVEN while Kate is doing her ridiculous screaming and shrieking and scaring the rest of the kids. Then the clip flashed to Kate on the couch laughing about how she thought the alligator was going to leap out of the water and have HER head.
I had been softening toward Kate over the past months (of only watching her make a fool of herself on DWTS.) This clip helped me remember why I can't stand the woman! Why would they even TAKE and airboat ride if not specifically to see alligators in the wild? Sheesh! Share in Alexis's (or whichever loves them) excitement and make it one of the greatest moments of her life! Don't make it all about yourself! If I'm going to have an irrational fear that an animal is going to attack, I'm going to worry about my KIDS, not that it's going to leap at my own head! Oh, Kate...

Radar online is reporting Haley has been cleared of the break-in at Jon's apartment. He staged the whole thing.
really? seriously?

About the child labor bill, I hope the on set 'teacher' is required to be a non-invested third party....you know, not a family member or employed by TLC or anyone who earns money/benefits if the kids work. I don't know who would provide that person, or how they are checked out.
Is it 15% of earnings per child? I should be!! I hope they change that wording to provide per individual child.

Has Jon been charged with this?. Do you know this for sure?
Your right too. The child actress I see going nuts, is Miley Cyrus. She has already said she doesn't want to sing any longer, just act. This is her last year with Disney, and I really hope she doesn't go Brittany Spears. I've seen Miley interviewed with her dad a few times, and she was portraying the embarassed teenager thing, but hopefully she will turn out okay.I see what you're saying ... but I'm not sure I agree it's the same thing. Maybe this will be a blessing. Can you imagine sitting down everynite and reading 8 times with each of the kids, plus doing the math factors. I know the tups are just going to Kindegarten next year, but they will be starting to need one on one time doing the homework. If they have to a have a teacher/advocate with the kids at taping, I feel sorry for whomever is picked to do that job with Kate.
With the *on set* teacher, oh yes, it does need to be someone non-invested. I'm just rejoicing in the fact that the G kids might have someone other than a parent to keep an eye on their welfare, but I'm the first to say that the new legislation is far from perfect.
The proposed legislation is just better than it was.
It is most definitely not perfect.
On the 15%. I'm not a math wiz, but 15% X 8 = more than 100%.
I'd actually be almost happy if Kate snarfed up 50% for her own needs, and just divided the remaining 50% for the ongoing maintainanceof the kids, plus 15% of that 50% in a non-revokable trust. For the children.
OMG, chump change for the kids, but the G parents (both of them) seem to want an immediate payoff from their *marketable* children, because they cannot seem to support them via normal, non-TV related, jobs.
How sad is that?
