If it has anythign to do with what their opinions are from prior tear-filled pleadings to the public for the safety of the children (yes---a little snarky, here!!))

What they are alleging is 100% heresay with exception of any filming done directly in Jodi's home.

If they were in a court of law in a lawsuit with Jon and Kate--they would be unable to say that "we know that they film blah blah blah hours a day and the children are treated as such and such"--it would either be objected to and sustained OR further questioning would reveal that they have not actually witnessed such things.

I think they are on a train ride to notoriety and they do NOT have the best interest of the children at heart. I feel they are out to just do a "screw you" to Jon and Kate.

Further--if it was such an issue....WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY agree to participate in filming. Please, don't go on about how you wanted to be sure the kids were safe. That's malarky.


(No, I do not like Jodi and Kevin--I don't care for people who allege wrongdoing long after they were cut from participating and endorsing such wrongdoing. It's disgusting and I shall not be blindly led that they are martyrs--but rather people who got burned. I could almost guarantee (of course I can't--but strongly feel no evidence will come forth) to validate that they have ever said 2 words to protect those kids the entire duration that they--Jodi and Kevin--were part of the show. Things that make you go, hmmmmmmmmm.)

I really hope some of the die-hard fans, the true sheeple who blindly believe Kate can do no wrong (and no one here, I might add) read some of the findings from this hearing. That these children were working, holidays were fabricated for the show, permits weren't filed, etc. TLC was taking advantage of Jon & Kate and Jon & Kate, to an certain extent, were letting them. Things were not as they seemed on the show.

OH. one thing I just remember reading in the book. about the security.

Evidently, Jon & Kate's van tires were slashed (in the driveway) on two separate occasions. The network had a security sweep done on the house and determined a security guard was needed. for Kate. not for Jon, not for the children... for Kate.

That doesn't bother me so much. Not sure why--but it just doesn't. The family likely still celebrated the holiday.

Utilizing the Christmas show as an example--while I can't tell if the footage of them coming to open presents was "pro" or not, I had a strong sense that they were provided a camera to set up and document.

Where did you read about the guard?

Though they slashed the tires on the van--it was a family vehicle (used predominately by Jon)--I wonder if there was additional details to indicate that Kate was the one in danger. I can only speculate of course. I wouldn't know for sure.

But as I read on and TLC denies it, I wonder if there will end up being a ruling on the rulling. And if they definately were employed, why aren't they fining them?

I'm not about to read a ruling-- No time for that....

But there could be reasons--perhaps the earlier idea of the timing of the trust fund that was set up remedied everything.

Perahps also, TLC's lawyers demonstrated that the law was not explicit to reality tv shows?

Further--in reading the law, it seemed there might have been some loopholes due to the ages of the kids.

I have no idea--but I'm okay with them not being fined.

Didn't we on the thread know this already? I believe we knew that Christmas was held early, so they could tape it. Were other holidays as well (I hope we don't get in trouble for the two times we lied to our kids and had Christmas two days early LOL. Luckily they were young enough to not realize it)? I keep listening to the updates as the day goes by, and really, they do keep saying this is for reform of the state, and it is not meant to be singling out the Gosselins. Perhaps--the language of the law didn't really include documentation of life's activities. Clarifying and reforming the law will just make sure that it doesn't happen again.

However, I stand by much much earlier opinions that memorizing lines and "performing" is not quite the same as filming a 1 year old as they toddle down the stairs and eat some cheerios at the dining table.

Why doesn't some of the talk shows pick up that TLC and the Gosselins were not incompliance and that the kids were working and that trust funds were not initially set up instead of having us listen to the "poor me" crap from Kate.

I read about it in Kate's book. She didn't elaborate much further that what I mentioned. Definitely no mention about why Jon didn't get security and she did .. and nothing that I remember about the kids.

Transcripts are only going to reveal what took place in a courtroom--it won't include anything privately discussed between counsel and the judge off the record that helped spin the hearing to the documented outcome.

The fact that no trust was set up for those kids until 4 years after they were filming and 3+ years after they secured a regular series speaks volumes.

I work with employed minors. Keep in mind that even though my state has fairly extensive child labor laws in place, the ONLY one that applies to children working as actors, performers or models is the one stating a worker's permit has to be filed (which is absolutley nothing). They are completely exempt from all other guidelines. That is why there was speculation they would move to NC; that is (partly) why our film industry is booming. Their production company Figure 8 films is based in NC.

Laws or no laws haven't mattered for reality show kids because they haven't been classified as employed.

When it comes to labor laws, federal law does not necessarily prevail over state laws. It is which ever one "offers the most protection."

While I can't say for sure that I agree or disagree with you on Kevin and Jodi, it seems to me that ego and the love of money and fame run in the family, at least for these two siblings.

I've now looked at some of the video, and yes. The Dept of Labor seems to have compromised due to TLC's exploitation of loopholes in the law. That will come back to haunt the Dept of Labor. The State reps were scathing in their disapproval of the compromise.

TLC has a stable of lawyers. Those lawyers have tacitly conceded that they needed work permits. How could they have overlooked that tiny detail? They have promised to get them in the future.

The transcripts I referred earlier to were of today's public Hearing. All on the record. No spin. No court proceedings. A hearing to provide information for PA state legislators to develop amendments to existing laws.

I do kind of understand it because I've been involved in the process of developing new legislation, but explaining it is really hard to do in a few sentences. I can't do it -- can anyone else help?
