Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 8

Gotta step in and speak for myself here.

If I am referred to as blind, then I will comment on that.

Noone is expected to backtrack, but folks should have the courtesy to discuss issues without implying that those of us who observe differently must be blind.

As Doris said, we have mods for those issues if anyone feels they have been inappropriately treated.

My original statement had to do with turning a blind eye to Kate's behavior and poor decisions and still going forward with defending her. This is clearly a statement you have taken to heart but as you expect courtesy on this thread so do I. We have differing opinions and last time I checked, we are entitled to them.

I did, too. I guess that she'll be doing post-DWTS interview press tomorrow and will somehow manage to work in that the book came out. LOL.

Kate has said that she jumps on the first flight back to PA as soon as she's finished with her DWTS stuff. She didn't last week, maybe she is this week!

scratch that thought. She's on ET tomorrow night:

and not only that, she's going to be on Leno Thursday. Just in time to go home, and turn around and come back to LA on Sunday. wow.

Have you seen the calendar someone put up showing (after the fact) how much super-mom of the century "I do it all for my kids" Kate is really home?

Kate isn't the only mom on the show this season .. do they ask the other stars what their kids think? or do the stars mention their kids? I'd think they would, but I just thought of that.

Maybe because people watching DWTS and know who Kate is, know her because of their show (J&K+8), and so those people *know* her kids. People know Pam Anderson for other reasons so while mentioning her kids isn't crazy, it isn't the same.

Maybe Jon is with the kids all this week anyway so this is why they scheduled her book show touring now. :confused3 It could be his week or something so maybe she wouldn't even be home with them this week. Just a thought.

I didn't see the calendar but while I was at work on my over-night, I caught that Kate will be on the Joy Behar show tonight on HLN. She tapes in NY so it may have been a pre-taped interview like some of the others but I will watch it anyway, there isn't much else on in the middle of the night so....

you should buy a lottery ticket! ;)
Actually I am going to Fond du Lac, today, and stopping at the store where they call it the "miracle mile stor"', were lots of people have won the Power Ball. It is up to $175 million.

When Kate got chosen to be on the show, she mentioned that she is installing a dance floor in her home, so she can do most of the practicing at home, so she can be with her kids. She knew at times, she would have to stay out in LA and practice, but she wanted to be home as much as possible. But with doing press, it makes you wonder how much time does she really have to practice. Anyone know what her next dance will be? Is water ballet an option?

The slide shows are good too, and there seems to be a live video link to the hearing on the FoxPhilly site. I'm pining to click on it, but I really should go back to work! Oh, the problems of being self employed with no boss looking over my shoulder and keeping my nose to the grindstone. :rotfl2:

That's the part I like about being self employed..I don't have to keep my nose to the grindstone LOL..no boss! I can dis and no one cares!

Looks like the investigation they did isn't going to have much impact on the past, but will be helpful to the kids in the future. TLC must be willing to comply, since they got the findings before announcing the new specials:

During the hearing, state regulators disclosed the outcome of an investigation that began last year with a complaint about "Jon & Kate." The regulators said child-labor permits should have been obtained for children appearing in the show, but legal action will not be taken against the producers.
A letter sent last month to Figure 8 Films and Discovery Talent Services was released. It outlines the conditions under which the state will resolve its investigation, including that permits will be needed for future filming and a portion of proceeds must go into a trust fund for the children.

Do the other moms and their partners dis the father of the kids who are home watching with popcorn. sorry, I can't get past that.

I'm not surprised at who went home.

Pam mentioned that her ex did not vote for her.

And if I remember right, it was Tony who dised Jon. Not that Kate hasn't, but I think on DWTS it was Tony who made the remark that he (Jon) would win if Kate didn't do good.

You're right, it was Tony who said that, not Kate. She was having trouble focusing on the rehearsal and said she's dealing with custody issues/life which she can't just put out her mind and then dance for 6 hours straight. After that, Tony said if Kate quits (or something to that effect) then Jon wins. I thought it was kind of tacky for Tony to say that but whatever.:confused3

:rotfl: My problem is that I still have deadlines, even if they are self-imposed, so I can't play all day. It does take some self discipline -- I guess I'm not demonstrating that today!;)

Very interesting -- where did you see this?

ETA -- OK, found a link to the investigation report -- lookes like AP.
http://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_14881723

IIRC, the parents are the ones responsible for pulling the work-permits and there are civil penalties for failing to do so. I wonder whether the Gosselins will be fined retroactively? At least with work permits there will be limits to the hours of filming and state oversight of the process in the future. Unless Kate moves them to another state . . .

Hmm. I need to find that link to the PA Child Labor Law and double-check.

she'd actually have to be at home to practice. she's been away more than she's been home so far in April.

I saw the book at Costco this morning. I skimmed it long enough to realize:
1) nothing in the book we haven't heard (more or less)
2) Kate's learned how to be a mom over the phone, from far away... which doesn't really fit the whole "I'm just like every other single working mom" thing she's got going on, does it?

Very interesting -- where did you see this?.

I found it on the link posted a couple notes up, on this thread. I clicked on the left where it said Kin testify Gosselins....etc

http://www.myfoxphilly.com/dpp/ente...tfity_At_Pennsylvania_Child_Labor_Law_Hearing

Maybe they did go after the Gosselins instead, but it didn't say that. so I was just posting what it actually did say. I would have assumed (I use that word way too much here) if the Gosselins were being held responsible, they would have added that to the report.

Yes, I have deadlines..which is why I don't get much sleep. But I can set up my work and dis while babysitting the printing.

Not that I think she is like most single mom's, but maybe she's like every other single working mom that travels a lot. I don't know any of them personally, but I'm sure there are some. I think Hilary used to travel a lot when her daughter was young. Dare I compare her to Jackie O (ok, I"m ducking out of the way..don't hit me)? She traveled a lot and left her children behind when they were young with nannies. That's one of the perks of being old..I actually remember when things were said when she left her kids. Although I think it was more a safety issure for her.

This is really all we can ask for, that money is set aside for them and that their filming is regulated and limited. It's good!

That is a good thing. Not that I know if money was or wasn't set aside for them. The parents said it was, but this way there would be no question.

according to the article I just read (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5h-Ttgh3cRm4ORGPnrcpZm4AFZJBQD9F2V9EG1) ... they didn't create a trust fund for the children until November. I can't help but wonder if they (Jon AND Kate) would have ever created one if hadn't been forced to.
