At the beginning of the show when they all stand in line w/ their partners behind them, she mouthed "hi kids".

That was the only thing I caught except for when she dedicated her dance to all the moms .

And how many times did she bring them up? Did anyone play the 'for the kids' drinking game? (and are still coherent enough to post )?

The only thing she said was that her kids could rest easy tonight because she completed her first dance. Honestly, she didn't mention them at all. I think it was more about how nervous she was and her trying to work through that in order to dance well.

I guess I was watching a completely different show than some of you, she was HORRIBLE. She was way too stiff and Bruno was right, it looks like Tony was pushing a shopping cart around. She looked miserable.

Just had to share...we turned on DWTS just in time to see Kate. The first think my husband said is, "oh, see got a **** job"....lol.
It seemed to me that she was trying to remember to smile during the judging. And for those that did not see it the kids were not there.

I thought the kids might be there, thank goodness they weren't. I forgot about Steve, was he visible? You know he is there.

Buzz looked more ridiculous than Kate. I couldn't believe his partner said she was worried about him remembering the steps because of his age. Pam was wacky and acted drunk. She looked so much better in rehearsal. I thought the show was good overall... a good bunch. Nicole is very pretty and Chad is a hottie (and surprisingly low key tonight). Niecey was very cute imo. Sorry, not a thread about DWTS!
Kate looked frumpy and awkward to me. Didn't like the hair, music, dress, etc. She had that crazy smile thing happening... and her enhancements, oh wow. Who will come root her on in the audience? Many had a spouse, sibling, parent, or friend there tonight it looked like.
Dancing like a shopping cart is never good. Doing the shopping cart on the other hand is always a crowd pleaser.

I didn't care for her dress at all. I thought it was dowdy. And she reminds me of when she asked Haley's dad about an uplift and he said she needed to wear a better bra...I think she needed to wear a better bra...they were going south and I think they were unleashed LOL.

As for the dancing..after Buzz, anything was good LOL (not meaning any disrespect for him, he certainly tried). I give them all credit, I could never do that. I thought Kate looked scared and while she looked like a beginner, she was tons better than I would have been. She will have to step it up, though, to stay. I felt sorry for her, she seemed so nervous.

I know nothing about dancing (I thought Pam did a good job (although she seemed a bit flakey/out of it), that shows you how little I know LOL) so I thought all except Buzz and the gal that mentioned she was heavy, did a good job.

I think Kate looked completely terrified. But did anyone think she looked sort of "heavy" ... not fat, just not as slim as I thought she was. It might have been that awful dress, but she looked bigger to me, especially around the middle. (and NO, I am NOT trying implying that she looked pregnant! )

I thought Kate looked "heavy" because she was standing next to the impossibly thin Pamela Anderson. My husband was laughing that Kate and Pam had similar-sized (um) enhancements.

I've never watched the show before and admittedly know nothing about dancing, but I was surprised at how well Kate did. She seemed to spend a good portion of the dance watching Tony's feet, but she did better than I could do if I had a whole year to practice. I hope she sticks around for a while. It was interesting to say the least...

Well that was interesting! Kate looked scared, and not very happy. I don't believe dancing is for her. But at least she is trying. I really enjoyed Evan, And the tall blond who does sports, they both did very well in my opinion. Buzz, you have to admire to go out and do this at 80! The man has nothing to prove to America after all he has done for his country. I wish Kate good luck, but would be nice to see her smile a sincere honest smile. It would be nice to see her happy, not a put on for the camers.

I just don't get when they said that Kate is not an athlete or a actor so this would be harder for her, what about the sports announcer, the bachelor? I was surprised that Kate did look bigger than before and yes, she looked scared to death. But I guess if I had to dance live on tv, or anywhere in public, I'd be scared. I saw her and Pam talking while another couple was getting their scores. Wonder what they were talking about?

I really think Kate did better than I thought she would. She did look like a deer in the headlights at times because she was obviously terrified. But Kate certainly isn't a shrinking violet so I'll bet that she'll feel more confident now that the 1st dance it out of the way. Tony is a great partner for her though. I do agree that her dress wasn't flattering at all. The way it was cut made her look boxy and thick. I've thought that before about those heavy looking ballroom dresses though. Last season that Joanna girl wore one and she was skin and bones but still looked thick with it on. Weird. Whoever is in the costume department should revamp that look!

I enjoyed seeing this vunerable side of Kate. During rehearsal you could tell she was terrfied and second guessing herself. This might be a very good thing for her, to learn something new that she isn't great at right away. That would be humbling. I did think she handled the judge's criticism well, she was quietly listening and you could tell she was scared. Even when Bruno said it looked like Tony was pushing a shopping cart around the dance floor (a bit harsh IMO). I would've cried if he'd said that to me after all the hard work of rehearsing.

Ok, was Pam drunk or on drugs last night? I know this is J&K+9 thread but Pam looked completely out of it last night.

I saw that too. I figured nervous chatter--esp. for Kate. With the way Pam danced, she may have been a little "high" on something, she may have been quite entertaining back there. Drinking would actually be a bad thing with hepatitis C, right? I dunno, she acted "something".

Kate seemed so nervous, very uncomfortable. I think it was hard to her to find a smile when she was concentrating so hard, knew she was struggling and just so nervous. Not something you can fake--going out there and dancing in front of millions, live.

I thought the shopping cart comment was right. But meanish. But right. But she tried and you could tell at the end when Tony patted her back that it was a there, there type of pat--like "you got through it, see?!"

Her dress was a pretty color but ugly. Too covered up, while most of the others were too skimpy. I thought the style of it was too much material. It was a waltz so it needed to flow, I suppose but still...too much.

I thought she was relieved to have lived through it. I also thought she seemed vulnerable just like the lady judge said. Probably because she is.

Oh and as for Kate looking thick...it was definitely the dress. Her body has turned into a beautiful one--she was never really heavy (besides all the extra skin) and I always was amazed at how well she did look but she is toned and in great shape now. You could tell in rehearsals--wow!

Um, she's not anything except a mom on TV. And Jake was not anything but a hunk on TV, but he is a pilot IRL. What is Kate IRL? that may be mean, but how I would look at it.

He's a pilot, she's a nurse? I don't think either of them have a background in any type of dancing.

I agree with everything. I've seen Pam on other shows, and she always seems to be like that. Were they trying to make Kate look matronly with that dress LOL? (and the 'girls' really needed a lift..as I said earlier, that's what she looked like when she went for the tummy consult, and the doc suggest a good bra..for awhile there, she took his advice). And we definately saw a toned body during rehearsals on Kate.
I hated to laugh at Kate's expense about the shopping cart, but it was pretty funny.

There have been several reality tv celebs on the show in the past. Their only claims to fame have been that there was a camera in their home! So Kate fits into that category. Same thing goes for the Bachelor...his only talent is that he went on TV and dated 15 women at a time.

No, I don't mean dancing background. Kate's a nurse?

Other people on the show are generally (I'll just say it) likable or have some sort of presence or talent. You may like her, but Kate is not known for being likeable and personable, although it seems she is attempting a re-branding in that area.

Some of the guys on have been controversial like Jerry Springer and oh I can't remember his name...the MTV guy on Jack_ _ _ who are not really 'liked'. I can't think of any women who have negative connotations. I haven't watched the last 2 seasons however.

Did she interact well with the other dancers?
