Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 8

It's obvious some think she does nothing right. I have seen where she has done some things wrong, or at least differently than I would have. But she seems to do some things right. She IS on DWTS. A lot of celebrities more famous than her would prob like that chance. She has managed to get more than her 15 minutes.

well, she was on The View and it didn't really work for her .. she didn't get chosen for Paula Deen's talk show .. DWTS is a disaster .. she's tenacious and has good agents working for her, but it seems to me that she's around more for having a strong personality and attracting controversy. There's the new book and TLC show. After that? We'll see.

Someone once posted here that I got the incorrect info when I asked her publisher if another book was coming out. I got a form note. The other person got a personal letter and said they got more than one response and the publisher was absolutely not going to publish for Kate again. Well, guess what? They are. Why would they do that? Because Kate is still drawing people.
She is still around.

I never did get the disagreement over the book thing, LOL. I always thought it was a multi-book deal.

I don't think we'll ever know. not now, anyway.

maybe... but providing is the word she's using. Kate Gosselin has done a fantastic job of sticking to the prepared speech/script, she always has.

FWIW--child support or whatever Jon is supposed to be paying isn't intended to cover everything. Though at $22K, I think I'd struggle okay.

Doesn't meant that Kate isn't working to provide for her kids.

We've never seen an itemized family budget to include ALL expenses--so it is difficult to decipher meaning about a bunch of words and a court set child support at roughly $3K per month per kid.

Also--not sure what Jon's income basis was, but child support isn't based just on what is needed to support the kiddos, but it is a reflection of the income of the person paying it.

That's why the rich and famous pay lots--but Joe the roadside highway worker does not.

My mom got only $200 a month for my entire life. Better than the nothing that some deadbeat dads don't pay. But it didn't scratch the surface and had she actually gone to court (had no money to do so) and requested more, she could have gotten it as my dad's income and lifestyle steadily increased over the years while my lifestyle went in the toilet in comparison. I was denied many things when there was no reason to.

Child support covers more than actual child expenses...it's supposed to help cover medical, dental, optical, educational, and standard living expenses. And in an ideal world, if the family's income supports it--it also is supposed to include extra-curricular stuff as well. My dad was my military sponser for insurance and any out of pocket co-pays....unless I was at his house receiving the treatment, they didn't pay a dime.

I don't know if the kids need $22K, but somehow the courts decided that was fair. Part of that though is that there are 8 children. If they had less children, it is likely that number would be less.

exactly... my hang up is how she's choosing to present her need to work. I just think the providing for the children is secondary to her enjoyment of the entertainment industry and the lifestyle that Kate has been exposed to as a result of that. (which is what it is, and none of my business.. LOL)

From a PR perspective, I have a sense that if she said that though, it wouldn't sound as appealing as providing for the children. KWIM?

Maybe next Kate can get the custody of the kids on one of those tv-court shows. Bring on Judge Judy!! Too bad they took Hollywood Squares off the air.

True--"I want to be famous and rich" usually is a turnoff statement.:lmao:

It really doesn't matter what she says. It's never right.

When did I say I visited there?
Way back when they showed them in the yard, near the swing set that they had in that area, and in the pool, you could see the hill (they have also planted more bushes, that doesn't show up in the older google pictures). Also, when they ate at the table right outside the cellar..you could see a hill. I wouldn't say it's amazing, but that I used my eyes. You may not have still been watching the show, on the occasions they have showed the back.

You edited out my ;). I was kidding about you visiting. It was just that you spoke with such authority it sounded as though you had walked the property!

Eh, I have probably seen most (certainly not all) of the shows, for my sins, but I do not have an encyclopedic knowledge of the layout of the property. Nor do I watch to develop that knowledge. I find it a bit squicky that anyone can claim to "know" the property from watching *edited* footage. YMMV.

:lmao:Doris, you're cracking me up! I agree though and remember when we discussed their property in detail last year! Wasn't in regards to where Jon wanted to place those crooked house playhouses? Something like that!

I'm not cracking up. At all. I find it scary that people seem to know the layout of the property, are able to discuss it in detail, and post arial photos at the drop of a hat to prove a point. And it is a fairly silly point, 90% of the time.

I sometimes wonder whether the *fans* who obsessively watched the show and memorize details are not the greatest threat. Not because they (the fans) are necessarily horrible people (far from it, although Rebecca Schaeffer does come to mind) but because horrible people may read widely and benefit from detailed *fan* discussion. I do fault the Gosselin parents for not protecting their childrens' privacy. From both fans and predators.

Hey, even Pamela Anderson doesn't allow her children to be filmed. Just saying.

that's not true. it's right for a lot of people.

I guess I should have said, for those who don't like her, it doesn't matter what she says or does...it's never right. I admit she has done and said stuff I don't like. But for some, there is nothing she can do or say that is ok in their eyes. When I see some of the things people criticize, such as when someone said her partner wasn't sitting near her, yet, when I went back and looked, it appeared that several of the dancers didn't have their partners. Plus, it appars that DWTS sometimes sets them up in a certain way, so they can pan the camera on them and make remarks. Of course, nothing was said about the others that didn't have their partners near them.

Her kids are off TV..but still people make remarks, even when she says she loves them in sign to them. Even then, people say she is using them.

I've seen very little talk about those that argued during practices this week, yet they were shown.

Three sour faces were shown on Tuesday, yet the only one discussed was Kate.

Just a very few examples of what I meant when I said she can do nothing right. I don't know how she keeps going. It must be hard to always be criticized for everything you do from the way you smile to the way you tell your kids you love them, to stoping in for a coffee, to getting your nails done. The kids were prob thrilled to see their mom sign it out to them.

There is nothing obsessive about knowing the property. It's on TV..that's where I saw the hill. What does the *edited* footage have to do with the property? They show it, I use my eyes to see it. I saw hills (although small hills). There is no encylopedic knowledge needed LOL. It's called observation. I turned on my TV, I saw the hills, and said to my self, aha..that's prob why they don't play there. It's been discussed in the past.

Anyone else think I spoke with such authority, that I must have walked the property LOL? Sorry to disappoint you, if so.

My guess is she keeps going, because in Kate's mind, the end (the success, fame, money, personal satisfaction, whatever) justifies everything she must endure to get there.

And I agree, I don't understand how people can say some of the things they do, about someone they've never met. While I'm not a fan ... I certainly don't hate her. (or anyone else)

Judging from my Twitter feed, she's safe.

What if Jon has been working as an IT the whole time since the divorce? He could be doing that from anywhere. He probably is spending more time with the kids. He was always shown as hands on. Then would it be okay for him to ask for custody? Maybe Jon sees that Kate being away so much is affecting the kids. The only thing I remember Jon doing was making poor personal choices. I don't remember Jon making bad parenting decisions. Kate seems to fly off the handle more, etc.
I think things can go both ways. I am not saying Kate is a bad mom. I think there are lots of things that are not being taken into consideration. Kate is a single mom, okay noted. But she did not have to chose a job where she would be away so much. Sherri on The View also said it was offered to her, ut she turned it down because she wanted to be with her son. Kate seems to have plenty of time for herself with the kids in school (or maybe it just seems that way to me because both of mine aren't ;)). She could work a 40 hour work week doing anything between the time the kids arein school and the time Jon gets them.

Also like to add that Jon probably was glad that she is on DWTS and hopes that she does well, it will help his lawsuit..LOL!

I think you just proved my point. Enough said.

I was cracking up at Doris' comment, that she used her eyes! That is funny, at least to me. I wasn't commenting on how funny it is that strangers can get a lay of the Gosselin's property. I don't think it's obsessive to discuss them and hardly consider myself an uber fan that is stalking their property. Obviously you're curiously interested since you're here on the thread commenting...:rolleyes1

ETA: I've enjoyed this thread immensely and not because of J&K. I enjoy the ladies here and their points of view.

I'm sure Jon could change, but I always remembering him saying he was very glad he went to work and didn't have to spend the day home with his kids. I remember that clearly, because that's the day I stopped being team Jon. And of course the rest is history, as Jon left his job and became a sahd. Something he wasn't very happy being.

Could he have changed? Sure. It's been what, 2 weeks since his Utah fling and that girlfriend breaking up with him? If he starts showing some responsibility towards the kids, sure, he should also try to have physical custody and let the courts decide. Fair enough. I wonder, would he actually move back to PA, or bring the kids to NYC?

Seems to me, that when Kate starts to travel, that's when Jon starts thinking she should be home, if it be book signings, or DWTS. I remember saying to a male friend who was sick of paying child support and yet, only got to see his kids every other weekend, to be careful what he wished, it might come true. Jon may end up with the kids and all it means.
