Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 8

Just thought it was curious that Kate gets kicked off the show the same time her kids are there so she can now "go home with my kids." Just curious.:rolleyes1

I think the 4 Christian virtues are Faith, Hope, Love and Charity (1st Cor 13 something). Although Chastity would be nice for some people to see as important! (I'm around teenagers alot).
Charity may have been fitting for a Gosselin name too. Just kidding, people.
Again the girls middle names are Joy, Faith and Hope. Not virtues or fruits of the spirits!

Faith, Hope and Charity (love) are the three theological virtues. Charity and love are synonymous.

maybe not. It is possible that Kate has been trained by TLC through the years not to discuss her faith in interview settings.

one of the similarities of Jon & Kate Plus 8 and whatevernumber Kids and Counting is that the earliest shows highlight the Gosselins and Duggars faith traditions (not their specific religion, so to speak) much more than the later shows. I don't know why TLC prefers to grow the shows that way, but they do.

Kids and counting still very much emphasizes faith. There is no show without it.

I would venture that they made sure it was part of the deal as it is a very critical element to that family's identity.

Results: Pleased with the results!

Still haven't watched yet (busy busy day today)---

But they have had celebs...behave unprofessional before on previous eliminations. I can't remember who...but every once and a while you'll get a doozy. I remember one show where the eliminated contestant was...."angry" and that is an understatement. I think that was a few seasons ago.

How you react in a loss is indicative of overall sportsmanship and character. Professional status has nothing to do with it--b/c there are some pretty sore losers in the professional world.

************

In other news--ultrasound today completely normal and my little girl is about 5.5 pounds and healthy per u/s. Woohoo. 4 weeks and county. (And though she isn't fully head down, she is diagonal--so on her way in that direction--so my prior breech concerns are history!)

It seems like Carrie Ann just did not like Kate. Every opportunity she got she emphasized how she was "different" from the others, and she implied that she was not a "real" celebrity. It was also like she was implying that the others had other talents where Kate was only a housewife. That is the message I got from her, anyway.

I heard about the results this morning while at work and just finished watching the show. Kate did say she had a wonderful teacher which was nice and well deserved for Tony.

For me I guess she just came across as the "fans can carry me" rather than actually improving her dancing. Pretty much all the stars at some point in the interviews all point out their mistakes or mis-steps etc and all have said what they would do differently, Kate never did that IIRC. I think she always fell back on saying she did the best she could. And if that's the case then you can't be surprised that you're in the bottom two.

Also- did anyone else notice that when Carrie Ann talked about Kate before the elimination that she called her a "housewife" That could not have been easy to hear.

I do remember an angry loser, but who it is escapes me. It was a guy.

Congratulations on the little girl! :lovestruc

I think it was Penn Jillette and also Macy Gray was not happy in general.

Lisa Loves Pooh- I second the congrats on the good news about your baby girl.

Ok, so I watched last night too and was greatly relieved to see Kate go home. She just cannot dance and it was awkward watching her try. I did think the whole drama ending was a tad over the top. Kate looked really upset and I thought it was kind of rude to make her continue talking when she was obviously upset. But maybe they did that so we wouldn't have to watch her dance one more time with Tony! Either way, I thought she looked genuinely upset to be going home but I think some of those tears were tears of relief. I wonder if Tony is relieved?:rolleyes1

that is true, but they've watered it down some from the earliest shows .. I'm thinking back to when they had only 13 or 14 kids and counting. :lmao:

congrats on the baby! :goodvibes

IMO nothing like in the begining. Now they more mention going to see friends from church, they seldom talk about religion or their believes. In the past they did.

Lisa, I noticed too that you're getting down to the wire!:goodvibes How exciting. I absolutely LOVE new babies and their scrunchy little faces and gurgling sounds. I remember when you were stuck on bedrest, it seems so long ago and here you are almost at the end! Hope your new baby girl arrives safely, the delivery goes well and she turns instead of remaining breech. My middle DD was breech too..:goodvibes

The Duggars are always shown praying, they leave things in God's hands, they talk about their modesty being associated with their faith. Their living debt free is even part of their spirituality. I think they not only speak of it, but show us all the time how important their faith is in their lives. They are very charitable (firefighters, police officers, etc.) they are very loving to their friends, each other and extended family. I think they are very kind to one another. They show this frequently on the series. I wish they'd stop the show. I don't want them to change. I don't remember them being a lot more explicit in the beginning about religion. It seems to define them.

Yes, all of those things, but they actually discussed their religion in the begining with quotes. They talked more about Biblical references about why they did certain things. If you saw the special the other day they had on, it was very obvious...at least to me.

On one of the threads about them, it was mentioned that they got some flack, and that TLC wanted more readership, so it was toned down. Or maybe TLC just isn't showing that much of a part of their lives anymore. They actually showed more praying at times other than when the baby was born, or they had problems. They actually used to mention what church they followed. I haven't heard that in a long time.

I'm not saying it's bad, just that I have seen a change.

Congrats Lisa..always good to hear good news.

3 PP..are you pregnant too?

Years ago, on a business board I was on, we had an online baby shower. It was so much fun. We played shower games, and for gifts, we all sent $5 gift cards from babies r us on line (at least I think that was where they were from. On line gift cards were new at the time). All the night of the shower online, she got email after email. About 50 of us attended. The gal used the gc's and then put up pictures of the items she bought. I had forgotten all about that. It was so much fun..and quite innovative at the time. Boards were sort of new way back then.

Lisa, congratulations on the baby girl!

I'm not sure it is/was a TLC decision or requirement for the Gosselins to tone down the faith content. They seem to have dialed it back sometime around what we now think of as the beginning of the end of the marriage. Could have been coincidence.:confused3

IMO, the Duggars still talk about and explain their faith a lot, and agree with others that it is central to the show. I don't often watch it, but recently saw Josh and Anna's "courtship" and wedding story. The decisions about not dating, deciding not to not kiss until the wedding day, being chaperoned, the vows, and and seeing how many children God gives us, etc. are all explained as faith-based. More recently, Jim Bob ran a road race in blue jeans, and carefully explained their clothing choices in terms of their beliefs. When they visited the Ethiopian restaurant they discussed why they did not dance, again on religious grounds.

The Duggars seem to have been much more careful to set limits around what is filmed of their children than Jon and Kate. I have not seen the recent stuff with baby Josie, but wish they had made filming in the NICU off limits too.

No, I'm not pregnant.:sad1: I wish I was, does that count? I just love new babies though and I'm in serious denial that my youngest DD just turned 7! Those newborn baby days go much too fast. Don't get me wrong, I love all the stages of babyhood but darn it, they are just so cute and snuggly and smell so good! DH used to joke that my babies always smelled like me because I loved just holding them close and kissing their little cheeks all the time.

Anyhow, I think that shower idea is adorable. What a sweet gesture and it sounded like great fun too.

BTW, how is your little grand baby girl doing? Wasn't she born around Christmas time?:goodvibes

She's doing great, thanks for asking. We were just skyping with her. We've had withdrawals, since my son took down his computer in anticipation of getting a new one, but when the air was curtailed, so was delivery of his new computer. They are back up on line and we just visited with her before bed (it's almost 8 pm there). I love the technology.

And yes, the Duggars seem to be a lot smarter in their contract, in what they won't let be shown. In the begining they showed more than they do now, at least as far as disciplining and the kids. I agree about the nic unit. I am so happy that she made it and hope it's without any serious problems.
As for not dancing..they may not have actual dancing, but those little kids sure do dance to the music in their minds LOL.

Of course it defines them. There are a lot of good things that they do, but I think that there are also a lot of bad. Their daughters grow up without a choice as to who and what they will be. They will all marry a "suitable man" of their dad's choosing and become baby factories. I have a problem with that.

I find it hard (no, almost impossible) to discuss the Duggars without discussing their religion, but we are not supposed to do that here on the DIS. :)

Other than ITA, let me just say, in allowed non-religious territory, that I have big problems with the Duggars filming their kids too. I do believe that the Duggars are more sensible and savvy than the Gosselins ever were on limiting filming. However, unless each child has at least 15% of the gross take put into a trust for their own use at the age of 18 (read possible escape fund for some of them) then the Duggar parents are just as bad as the Gosselins.

ETA, the above 15% for each Duggar kid I suggested above is mathematically impossible. So 15% of the gross take divided by 16 (assuming Josh, Jon David and Jana are all over 18 and can negotiate their own contracts. OK, can some accountant come to my rescue here? LOL!

I'm a housewife, Carrie Ann can kiss my bum!

Weird--I guess it is just our perceptions.
