Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 6

All I know is that I like the show. I know it is reality TV and we are seeing edited versions of them and that we see what TLC wants us to see. I also know that the trips and all the freebies are perks of doing the show since they are being used as part of the show. To me it is no different then Project Runway going into a fabric store and having free run to get what they need and at the end we hear them say "thanks Mood" so we all know what store they were in. Or on Top Chef they go on locations and are always shopping in Whole Foods...plus mentioning the restaurants that the judges run...free advertising, free product placement..it's pretty much a fact of life in reality TV shows.

I don't begrudge J & K any of this, they did what they felt they need and wanted to do for their family..just like we all do. We just didn't have a TV show knocking on our doors. I'm not all up in arms over the fat that the kids have cameras around them, I'm one that thinks that pulling the show abruptly would not be a good thing because this is what is normal for the kids and with the parents splitting they need this as the one constant in their life.

I do think the show is running it's course though and will end sooner rather than later...mainly because the kids are older and with school in the future there will not be as much to film. This is when they should be making a slow transition to removing the cameras from day to day and then eventually it can just be special occasions and/or trips. I like watching the trips, I get to see places I won't go to, just like watching Samantha Brown on Travel Channel.
I agree, Nancy. It doesn't surprise me that the kids might ask about the crew if they haven't been around for a few days. I think transitioning to a (relatively) normal life is important at this stage.

Although I would never want to see it on , once they were teens, I do think it would be intersting to see how they will handle all those teens. Three teens at once was harder for me than three youngsters! And hard on my hair color too!
Oh, yeah! I've had teenagers for 12 years, and this one still has 4 to go before she hits her 20's. 3 at once was :scared1: Can't imagine 8 (and 5 of them girls!) But, if my experience is any indication, there are many, many, many things that happen that I wouldn't want on t.v.!

Not that it's any of my business, but I wonder, if she did kick him out, were there good reasons? I wonder if the first pics with the young chicks were just the first we saw. Just something that goes through my mind every once in a while.

There is so much we don't and won't ever know (again, not that it is any of my business).
It isn't our business, but it would be interesting to know what went down. Maybe "counselling" wasn't what we assumed it was. :3dglasses We'll never know. And that's okay.

None of it is our business that is why we post under usernames:rotfl:

I think she was fed up with the way he acts & she is a control freak. I think they feed off of each other's worst character defects.

I think he was going to the bar & she did not like it but he kept doing it.
Yeah, but MY username is my name, 'cause I didn't know any better at the time.

My Tag turns Black when Kathy comes around
:rotfl2:

I don't understand Madge..she said if they don't shoot for 5 days, the kids ask about them.

you're absolutely right. I completely and totally misread/misunderstood what was quoted. 100%. LOL. :lmao:

with that said, the answers about filming never seem to be the same way twice. it seems to me, that when Jon and/or Kate (they both do this) are talking about the filming, they're continuing to justify doing the show. my thoughts on that haven't changed, in spite of my inability to understand a simple sentence. :upsidedow

Someone mentioned on another board, that the good part is, when the parents are home, and they are filming, at least the kids are often getting their undivided attention during that time, rather than be sent outside to just play all the time.
That isn't the case all of the time anymore. There have been a handful of instances since the divorce announcement where the crew was there and the adult with them while filming was the babysitter.

now. I know what the reply to that is... Jon or Kate could be off to the side, or in the house using the bathroom. And you would be right about that. The paps could be choosing to show pics to highlight the possibility that Jon and Kate aren't always around.

And that they are prob doing stuff (like firing off the rocket, doing the scavenger hunt) that they prob wouldn't have time/interest to do with them. I had never looked at it that way, and not sure that I agree, but I did find the different perspective interesting.

that is an interesting point about Jon and/or doing stuff they might not have otherwise done.

one could argue things they've lost as a result. LOL.

I don't need anyone to agree or disagree with me, I can do it all on my own. :rotfl2:

Of course they try to justify it..just like I would if my kids were doing something that not everyone agreed I should be letting them do. My mom (who I miss daily) had lots of ideas on what I should and shouldn't let my kids do (first child kept in yard until age 13, second one kept in yard until 12, third one..open gate policy from the age of 8 LOL). I always justified why I allowed what I did..even the times my mom was right LOL! I'm pretty sure my kids justify why their kids do what they do too...I think it's human nature. Whatever answer fits to make it ok.

The answer I have heard the most from J & K is, we tape several times a week for about 4-5 hours a day..but mostly tape while the kids are playing, so it's not work. I haven't seen Mady keeping a journal yet, but I think we may have to wait for that for the truth, or see if the paps start keeping a log of when TLC shows up, and when they leave. Just why haven't the paps let us know just how many days and how long the filming is?

Hmmm...how did the paps get on the side of the fence with Jon and the kids?

Hmm..I wonder if the ring was in the scavenger hunt.

I have agreed and disagreed with myself so many times, I'm not sure what I believe anymore LOL!!

Just saw this in my blog-skimming ...

Saw this on BabyMomma’s site: (BabyMomma's site is the Gosselin Family Fan site, or whatever it's called)

saw her in Cleveland and found out that she is really a strong woman. I asked about the cookbook (as a woman who collects cookbooks/recipe books-I was curious to hear about hers) and she gave some UNOFFICIAL word that the book will be out next fall (she believes) and that she will be a writing a NEW book (UNOFFICIALLY) about what she and the kids went through with the divorce

you're right. especially the bolded part.

the difference is that most people aren't under the intense scrutiny that Jon and Kate are .. having their every move tracked.

we will never know how the children really feel about the filming. and it's too soon to tell what, if any, effects the show will have on them as they get older.

I wonder how they got there too..obviously someone let them be there.

I do think that picture looks like "feeding time at the zoo"

Debbie...obviously I didn't know any better either. :lmao: And I had 3 kids between ages of 30-35....when I had my last daughter my oldest wasn't even in kindergarten yet...those days were a breeze compared to the teen years. I have one that is almost 17 and that is my baby, I can't wait till I'm done with the teen years..and mine are all girls!

I have truly hesitated on commenting on this thread but looking at that picture where Jon brought out the kids made me thing of the infamous case in Canada of the Dionne Quintuplets. They were put on display and their lives ruined. I can't watch the show anymore and am deeply saddened by the recent turn of events. As my dad would say I just pray for them.

I just find that so sad and twisted. But it's true.

IIRC, the paps have been on the other side of the gate before .. Jon was playing with that camera with the big honkin' lens that one time ...

and the zoo thing is spot on.

Jon is too trustworthy, to bring his kids out to the fence with him.
Those people are not looking at Jon, they are looking at the kids.
Maybe Jon is correct when he says he wants to stick up for his kids,
but his actions sure don't prove it today, by letting them come to the fence and meeting strangers.
Yes, Jon is there with the kids,
but why, is he trying to make his kids feel comfortable with strangers?
Hasn't Jon ever learned the lesson,
"Stranger, Danger".
I really think Jon is out there, and the kids are trying to get his attention. It's like Jon has a fixation with the people that come to the fence and gawk at his family, home, etc.

I can't stand either one of them but maybe he wants them to meet people other than the "crew" and maybe as long as he is with them its ok to be out there. I hope at least that thats what he's told them while explaining how it isn't ok to talk to strangers unless Mom or Dad are around.

Way too many what ifs and maybes involved w/ this family :surfweb: but it sure is fun to speculate.

Just goes to show two sides to every story and then the truth somewhere in the middle.

The dogs seem real comfortable with the paps & visitors too.

I wonder if the paps took that picture from the other side of the fence further away and used a telescopic lense.

The people at the fence look more like fans..although I think Jon is making a mistake teaching the kids to talk to strangers.

That is possible, they could be pretty far away and just zoom in..never thought of that. I really don't like the whole "staring at the family" thing though. I just can't believe that people go and stand by their fence like that....I think that is crazy.

This is the first time Jon has taken the kids on his fan greeting at the fence that I have seen. Do you think he is trying to push Kate's buttons?

He really is not a boring guy, I'll say that for him.

Hey guys. I can't multi quote on the crackberry so please bear with me!

Madge - we stayed at vacation village (I think that was the name) with friends hwo used their timeshare there. We had a good time despite all the rain. Have fun! It was pretty quiet but watch - there's been lots of talk about a storm in the gulf coming up.

Re Hailey being a role model - she tweeted awhile back that she was happy to be a role model for college freshman and what not to do.

As for them splitting I certainly think it would have happened a lot sooner if not for the tups. I can imagine for the first few years it was simply survival mode. Now that the kids are older and they have more time together it's causing the friction and the split. Jon said he was jwalous of Kate's lifestyle ina recent interview. She would have made quite a bit as a nurse and I can't see Kate staying a nurse forever - I think she would continue to work her way up the ladder. How would Jon have felt about that?

I am honestly surprised that we haven't gotten more info from the paps unless they're the unnamed sources that keep popping up.

I also wanted to say again how much I love this thred and everyone's opinions. Thank you all for sharing them!
