I believe Jon when he said he was attracted to Kate having it together, being organized, etc.

I also agree that Kate was the "parent" .. but I think there's a part of Kate that chose -- and liked -- that role. Especially since she craves being the one in control.

Money changes people. Period.

Fantastic post madge. You are absolutely right about money changing people.

You hit the nail right on the head...it was the money that ended the marriage. IMO they would have stayed together if they were not loaded now. I think more people would split up if money was not a problem.

Interesting that you see it that way. I think Jon would have resented Kate (and they would have split) even sooner, since she wanted the last 6, not he, if they hadn't had money. I always thought being poor (which they would have been with 8 of them..remember, that's when Jon went to the Salvation army, before the money came) made for more fighting.

IHe came off as the spoiled, lazy rich kid his parents raised. Then Kate came along & she became the "parent" of this big kid. IMO

.

From what I've watched and interviews I've seen this about sums up their entire relationship at this point.
Whether they admit it or not, at this point...it's about the money.

Money is the root of all evil. J & K remind me of someone who won mega bucks in the lottery and end up blowing it all. I seriously hope they have savings accounts set up for the kids college fund and counseling. Its not cheap to live in NYC and Jon is spending money like water. Kate can't get enough of Starbucks. They probably spent $75,000 each on their cars. Wasn't their big van donated?? Seems to me it was. Doesn't seem like they drive it much anymore since neither parent takes all the kids together. When they did the cake episode, a big fancy bus picked them up. When Kate took Mady to the spa in SanDiego, they flew (probably 1st class). I would love to know how many sponsors have pulled out of the show. Won't take long for more if they keep getting the negative press that they seem to receive. I noticed they are all over the tabloids but not a word about them in the decent magazines.

Actually, it is the "Love of money" that is the root of all evil. IMO, it is a truth found in scripture that certainly holds true today.

I think the money changed them and all that but I think they would have ended up separated no matter what. J&K aren't a great match. While they seemed to have loved on another early on and even after the babies were born, I think their personalities are so different they were doomed. Had they both worked on themselves to create a better marriage than I think they would have stood a chance.

I think you're right.

IMO, Jon's lazy and selfish .. Kate is driven and selfish ... with or without money, it was going to catch up with them sooner or later. With such strong personality traits, it would take a lot of work to stay together.

Money isn't the root of all evil. The scripture is actually 'For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.' It's actually about losing your faith and harboring evil and temptation. There is a lot more about what that passage means, but we can't talk religion on this board. I do believe that money plays a big part in what Jon and Kate are after..both for material things and their kids and their futures.

The kids may have nice bank accounts..both Jon and Kate have said they have gotten a share..I hope it's true.

I don't know how much Jon's car was, but I doubt either of them paid $75,000 each even if that was the value. Those cars may also have some placement value. The sponsors are loving all the attention they are getting right now, and I suspect the more attention the more the sponsors pay. I'm noticing a lot more sponsor placement in several shows I watch now. I guess they figured that is a good way to get their products out there.

As for the bus taking them to the cake episode (and all the other taped shows), The spa with Mady, the ski trip with Jon, those would be picked up by TLC, as part of their taping expense, I'm sure. I would assume and Kate and Jon have both said, that they have had some say in where they go and what they do, but TLC also has a say in what they want to tape. All shows of this type have traveling expenses. We'd be pretty bored after a few shows, if they all just showed them going to the park or playign with playdough. We wouldn't have anything to pick at.

While K & J may not pay out of pocket for the trips, etc, either sponsors or TLC would be paying, as part of the show. I doubt Starbucks is the cause of using a lot of money..at least it isn't in this house, even if there several trips a week.

They did have a nice article in Good Housekeeping..but obviously, if it's dirt the people want, the tabloids will be the rag mags for that.

I have no idea how often they take all the kids places, since there are many days they aren't taping, and we don't have a peek into their lives. We only see what TLC is taping for the show and what interests the paps.

Sigh. Those poor kids. Do neither of them have anyone in their lives that loves them enough to tell them that all this public warfare is just making things a hundred times harder on their kids? Poor babies.

I just wish they would stop bashing each other in public like that. I know that with a lot of divorces there is so much drama but that ugliness is not only out where everyone can see it but their kids can find out about this. I wish they would stop just bashing each other and focus on their kids.

ITA with all of this.

OMG! We're agreeing again. :scared1:

BTW, apparently Jon is only leasing his cars. I don't know about Kate.

Sigh. Those poor kids. Do neither of them have anyone in their lives that loves them enough to tell them that all this public warfare is just making things a hundred times harder on their kids? Poor babies.

IMO, there is a rift between Kate and anybody who would have given her impartial advice. But I wonder what Jon's mother has been saying to him about the show, since she never wanted to be a part of it.

As long as Kate is doing everything she can to keep the show, and Jon is doing everything he can to get out of it, I think the public war is going to continue. Because of this, the normal bickering that goes on in a divorce has been magnified tenfold. :scared1::scared1::scared1:

there are at least 2 accounts of Friday's speech in Cleveland (polar opposite views. LOL). One of the questions was about filming:

Q. ‘What’s it like to have cameras around all the time and are the kids bothered by it?’ A. ‘I don’t notice them…well except the paparazzi…the kids love the crew and they are willing to continue…if we don’t shoot for 5 days they’re asking where they are…’ and then she rattled off the kid’s nicknames for the crew.

Now. I know that they could only be filming an hour a day for 5 days a week .. but it seems to me like every time they're asked about filming, the answer is different.

"I have no idea how often they take all the kids places, since there are many days they aren't taping, and we don't have a peek into their lives. We only see what TLC is taping for the show and what interests the paps."...

How in the world could there be many days without filming aside from the break they have recently taken? They shoot way more episodes than the industry standard and the have had six "seasons" in 3 years? Multiply the number of episodes by the amount of footage necessary to have a clean 30 minute show, and it has to be a lot of time behind the camera. Do some people really think we haven't seen even a peek into their lives? Between the show and the media circus, there's barely an uncaptured moment. Most of it is boring, not chosen for its interest value. I don't see how it isn't seen as Truman showish. Recently we've seen the boys getting haircuts as an episode. Five year old boys getting buzz cuts on vacation after "searching" for a barber in Wilmington, NC, a large bustling city. Now, that's entertainment.

I can't believe Kate doesn't support the Kids Cuts who gave all six tups free haircuts until they were five. By all local accounts, and the USS NC episode, when they turned five and the haircuts were no longer free, she took them somewhere else. Stuff like this is so tacky to me.

Kate is at the Southern Women's Show in Charlotte next weekend (536 miles from her PA home) and my sister is going. She is not a fan. She will be there for other events, but is making a point to see Kate. Followers and fans are differently motivated. To me it is sad, if that is why this family is still getting attention.

J & K could murder someone and you would find a way to justify it!!! Seriously everyone is entitled to their opinion but is it necessary for you to nitpik any post that doesn't show J & K in a favorable way???

I love her posts! They are always well thought out and spot on. :thumbsup2

Why would you say such a thing? If they were to murder someone, I would not find a way to justify it. But really, isn't that a bit over the top? Why do you keep trying to make this personal? I am commenting on the same things others are. Some people actually agree with the fact that the trips are paid for by TLC.

I am speaking about the show. You, and sometimes others, want it to seem that they are getting everything, trips, cars, etc for free. I am pointing out, that that is part of the show. I'm not sure what TLC would show, if they didn't take them on trips, to stores etc. I realize you intensely hate everything they do, but it's a show, and reality shows are like this..they go places, and the sponsors pay for it.

At no time in my post did I point them out as 'favorable', but I don't intensely hate them, so I do see somethings differently than you do. However, if I wanted to (point out good things about them in another post), I will. I did point out why they have what they have and why they do certain things. Again, please, put me on hide, so you don't have to get so upset everytime I post. It can't be good for you, to feel you always have to comment when I post about how the show works. I know you want to believe that they are responsible for getting everything for free, and using all the money form the show (again, I don't think buying Starbucks will break the kids bank accounts), so their kids have nothing, but some of us just don't think that is the way the show works. If TLC and the sponsors didn't pay for these trips with the kids, they wouldn't be taping them.

I don't understand Madge..she said if they don't shoot for 5 days, the kids ask about them. I assume it doesn't happen often that they go 5 days without shooting, but did she say (I assume this is a speech of Kate's?) how many hours a day and how many days a week they shoot, and was that different from the usual a few hours a day 3-4 (or 5) days a week? I wonder why the pap's who are at the ouse never say how long the TLC crew is there. Maybe they'll see it here and tell us the real amount of filming LOL.

:thumbsup2 I think the winner of this divorce and the better parent of these kids, is the one who keeps their mouth shut when possible about the divorce.

I just wish they would stop bashing each other in public like that.
