I semi agree with this (I don't think anyone wins in this). For some reason I don't see him doing this for "the kids", I think this more a "get back at TLC and Kate" move on his part...I hope I am wrong ....but I guess time will tell.

I have to agree. I keep thinking back to when Jon was complaining about how he lost his twenties and about how he can't be himself because he is "Jon of Jon and Kate Plus 8" not just Jon. I don't remember him ever mentioning the kids then. I believe Kate when she says he never expressed concerns about the kids doing the show to her. I only remember him saying HE wanted to be off the show and how HE didn't like it. On The Insider tonight he said he has alot of offers, alot of people are interested in him and I think that is what all this about.

All in all though, I guess it really doesn't matter if in the end, the kids benefit, but I am not buying Jon's act.

This is the double standard. If this were Jon, people would be all over him. Why isn't he with the kids? Why does he need to go to "Hollywood" parties, and on and on.

Kate is going to a party. Jon is paid to make appearances. I do not see a problem with them doing this. The only time we have been all over him is when we see him doing his "player act" with the 20 year olds at these events.

Jon is admitting he as been an *** with the way he has been acting...so we were right.

Have you ever had a job? I have to network with people all the time. I hate it, some love it but it is required for us to stay in business.

I used to dislike them both equally, but if Jon wants the kids off TV I don't care why; he wins!

Now if he caves for money and agrees to film or uses them in the future to make money, I will intensely dislike him more than Kate.

If he remains steadfast and advocates to keep them from being filmed and used for income generating purposes, no matter his motivation, he is in the right.

ITA with this. I know that both Jon and Kate love their kids, but I think being surrounded by the TV show really kept them from seeing things clearly -- I'm hoping that given some time away from it, they'll both see that their kids are happier living a normal life. They may even become normal adults.

And no problem -- we have to stick up for each other or we'll lose this thread when people just drop in and start being nasty.

Always loved the show. Haven't watched it since the announcement.

Always thought they truly loved each other. Yes some poor communication but I thought I saw real love between them.

Never was a Kate hater.

But I must say boy is she smart with her "ways". So smart. Jon said nada in the beginning. Nada. Kept his mouth shut. She had the first People interview that put all their personal crap out to all of us. Everything. He still stayed quiet. Yes, he was here, there and everywhere. She said he checked out of the marriage. And he said nada.

And then he started talking b/c she wouldn't be quiet and there were lies (I assume). But he just doesn't have her level of knowing what to say and what not to say. He doesn't. He just doesn't. She can speak and not let her emotions get ahold of her message. He can not. Hence, he's screwed.

Now the irony - Kate says something to the effect of I won't speak about private things in the media. So he looks like the idiot even when she started by - oh the irony - saying private things in the media.

New job for Kate if she leaves the show - PR. Really. No sarcasm.

Those poor children.. I truly beleve they loved each other at one time. You could see it. It's such a shame.

I think Just Jon is the guy you saw on LKL last night -- the guy who wears a black suit and purple shirt, wears 2 earrings, likes snowboarding and riding motorcycles. J & K + 8 Jon is that preppy guy in the publicity pictures -- in fact, those pictures look pretty weird to me now, since it's obvious he's trying to pretend to be something he's not.

I don't agree with you about your criticisms of Jon, but you're right -- none of this matters if the kids benefit in the end.

Too me most of what is discussed here is not fact...it is peoples interpretation of things as they are presented. Unless you are that person or part of the inner circle...no one knows the truth and what is fact or fiction.

I really don't think Mermaid meant anything bad, just trying to make a point, the same thing Kidshop was doing with me. I laughed it off just as Kidshop did when it happened to her.

I am not anyone's "defender" I don't want the thread shut down over people being snippy . I must have been absent that day .

And at least Kidshop's looked like a joke -- without a smiley, there's no way I would know. I didn't take those other posts at all the same way...and I really like hanging out with all of you, whether we agree or not.

As for someone to speak for the kids ITA -- IMO it's a slippery slope when you start making money off your kids. Things start to seem ok even though they really aren't, and your whole perspective on what is normal gets completely skewed.

Much of what Jon has been saying the past 2 days is right on point (not judging his motives, just his words) but with TLC's PR engine, I can't imagine anybody else willing to stand up and say these things (Jon has nothing to lose -- he's been called just about every bad name this summer) I agree with mrsksomeday that maybe a judge can order them to shut up. Well, at least I hope the judge can.

They are not for the kids, but I wasn't talking about Kate..I was only responding to a post about Jon and his motives.


I don't think the show is about the kids anymore...it started out that way, but changed as they got older. Right now I think both parents are in for themselves...the whole "for the kids" line just sounds so phony.

I agree! There is no reason to get snippy over the Jon + Kate divorce!! Threads are no fun when someone is rude or feels the need to critique every little thing that someone else says.

All we can do here is offer our opinions -- because none of us truly have the facts. Jon says one thing, Kate says another, their lawyers say another, TLC says something else, Kevin & Jodi have their take... How in the world, in this mess, would anyone of US have the facts? The principals here can't even agree on their stories, (i.e. Jon/Kate/lawyers/TLC)

Some posters think the show is a good thing, some don't, some identify with Jon, some with Kate. Whatever. Just opinions.

It seems like both Kate and Jon are trying to get some other type of show going for them. They both are doing interviews, going out, networking, whatever you want to call it.

I just hope that they coordinate and that the kids are with one of them while the other is off doing their work. That would be best for the kids to always have one parent with them.

Some people don't like what Jon is doing with his interviews, Vegas, etc. Some people don't like what Kate is doing, going to parties, interviews, etc.

I really don't like either one of them doing that, but it is their choice. IMO, either agree that Jon should be able to do interviews and Kate too, or neither, but why argue about one doing it when they both are?

I just wish they would always think "what are my kids going to say when they see this" before they did anything!

We have been through several threads where people have agreed and disagreed but haven't made snide remarks to each other, we have respected each others opinions. I would hope you would respect that as well.

No one has asked if you were Kate now have they or did I miss it? I don't think so. Please just state your opinion, use things to back it up and we all can discuss it nicely.

She's no genius either, but whatever she and Jon are doing they are in agreement and are backing each other up. Jon has never made any false claims with regard to Hailey. And she is still backing him.

Kate, on the View insinuated that Hailey met the kids and she has not. She has let people believe that Jon cheated and this is what led to the end of the marriage, but this is not true. Kate ended things in October of last year. Jon has stated that he and Deanna were only friends (which Deanna backed up) and Kate2.0 and Steph were lying. Hailey still supports him. It's something in the media blast against Jon. Pretty much all the things he has stated have turned out to be true, and backed up by others.

What I highlighted above is why I thought Kidshop had "inside" information. Those things are not "fact" and she states them like she knows they are true.

I seem to have rubbed some people the wrong way and I don't want to get your thread closed!

But remember- in these situations, there is Her side- His side and the TRUTH.

It is fascinating, but I still disagree. I do not consider Kate to be believable at all. When she speaks she does so carefully, like she is measuring every word, very guarded. She won't answer questions. Jon (and I'm not saying this is necessarily a good thing), just talks with no reservations. It is like he doesn't have anything to hide and is very free and natural.

If Kate was so forthright, why did she deny she had help for so long (I do it all alone), why keep up the charade of a marriage for a tv show? She is all for show, no substance. What has she been forthright about? She even claimed to be a 'high road taker' and then specifically asked to talk about Jon and Steph on the View! She is only forthright about Jon and his faults (he has many). she strikes me as someone who only considers how life affects HER. I haven't seen her show much concern for anyone else, and that includes the children. And that is based on what I have seen on the show, and her many TV and magazine interviews and reports back on her behavior during appearances.

You can disagree all you like, but the credentials and track record of the person's blog whom I posted is far more than you can ever offer in credibility.

It is not a slam against you. It just means on the internet, you lack credibility to "prove" your opinions. You certainly are entitled to have them of course.


Case in point--TLC is so bad for the children--but Jon has intentions of putting them on his show if it gets on the ground.

The issue is the children being on tv period is harmful to their health. His just trying to stick it to Kate and intends to have them on his show. Got news for him, what goes around comes around and if he can deny permission, so can she.

Jon lawyer's say, the contract with TLC is null and void.
Kate's lawyer says they have a contract with TLC and they have to abide by it.
With Kate being on the Today show, I'm betting they will continue, but not right now.

I seriously doubt it is Null and void depending on what the conditions of the show title status are and depending on how the children's contracts are sign.

Just had another thought--Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards. They are divorced, not sure on their custody arrangement. LOTS of animosity between the two of them.

Of course this is in California.

But when Denise started her show--Charlie tried to prevent his children from being filmed and a judge ruled in Denise's favor. Does anyone remember that?

When in divorce, I don't think parents have as much rights as they think they have when it comes to controlling what happens with the kids when it isn't their turn.

Way too much precedent.

Jon and his attorney can whine all they want, but they will have a serious issue in that there tends to be littel that can be done to control what the other parent does with the children when they have custody.

It will be very interesting.

I just don't see Jon and his attorney having the correct assessment, but time will tell. (Especially when he wants to go and film them on his own. )

Jon and his lawyer are trying to say, they had no legal representation and the children have no "contract" to work with TLC. This is the angle they are trying to work with. Why has the State of Pennsylvania not said anything yet.
It is such a waiting game. I am really hoping that Jon is sincere and wants the kids to stop filming, but the more I read this thread, and some of the links, it looks like Jon has a different agenda.

I saw a preview last nite on TLC, the Roloffs are coming back with a new show. I wonder if TLC pays the Roloffs seperately, or as a family. Zac and Jeremy are 19. They have been adults for over a year and a half.

Just one more thing...my older boys knew Ryan, from the MTV show "Life of Ryan" and he said he only made $5,000 and episode and his brothers made $1,500 for the whole season of the show. He said he tried to renew his contract for a 4th season with MTV and they didn't want to pay him anymore. He knew MTV made a lot of money off of him, so he wouldn't sign the contract and there is no show. Right now, many of you are probably saying Ryan who?
If Jon and Kate would stop the show, within 3 years, many would say, Jon and Kate who?
