Jon and Kate Plus 8 Official Thread - Part 5

HOT. But it has been hot all summer this year. August is usually hot and humid (you know, dog days of summer) but the mountains are a few degrees cooler and August is beautiful too. (I'm biased though, I do not think there is a month of the year I wouldn't say, "it is beautiful here." )

Enjoy your trip. Are you doing PF, G-burg or Townsend?

Bill's parents have a vacation home on Bluff Mountain, address is Sieverville, we take Wears Valley Road to go there. It is gorgeous in that part of the country, it relaxes me to just sit on the deck and look out at Mt. Leconte. The sunsets are fantastic!

Oh, you will have a great time! Sounds absolutely breathtaking. As a kid, I always wanted to live in Wear's Valley. I love the valley and looking up at those mountains!!

Ok please bear with me - I know it's long. I'm finally caught up!!! :cool1:

I think that was all a game on her part. She was going for sympathy. She yells at him so much in other shows and then all of a sudden she plays the "meek little housewife" who is scared of her big bad husband. In any normal show she would have been having a total hissy fit and he would just go along with it to shut her up.

I have to disagree. Regardless of what we "see" (based on TLC and the paps edits), their (J&K's) dynamic could be totally different. I don't think it was a game at all who was a "meek little housewife" scared of her husband. I took the situation as not wanting to deal with the conflict that was going to ensue with a discussion as to the location of the houses. Maybe this was the only time (with spectators for lack of a better word) that Jon would have actually taken the call or "talked" with her....we just won't know.

I think she really dreaed telling him that the woods were not the right place for those houses. And IMO, she was right.

I was glad to see Jon driving the bobcat/tractor. He looked so manly up there wearing his diamonds. ;) He may have been humming that ol' tune, "she thinks my trator's sexy". LOL

Completely agree that it seemed sincere about not wanting to tell him. I'm a bit Kate-like and hate "discussing" big things like that with DH. He tends to take (IMO of course!) the "childish" route and stomp around instead of discussing the issues. Am I "afraid" in the sense that he's going to do something to me? Nope - just know that it's going to take a lot more work for me to get through the day. Not saying I won't do the work, but sometimes I'm just not up for it.

You made me :rotfl2: with the song reference!

I don't think he handled it right either. No matter how she treated him, there isn't an excuse in what he did. He hurt not only her, but his children as well.

I do think Kate has issues of her own. But then, I'd probably have issues too with 8 kids.

I agree that from what's known, the situation doesn't seem to have played out the best for those involved.

Heck - I have issues and only have two kids! I'd think with 8 I wouldn't have time to think about my issues!:rotfl:

Do we know just when Kate realized where the houses were going to go? She did say she hadn't walked down to the spot, but I have no idea just when she learned where it was. Maybe Jon did some clearing a few months back, and finished it the day they were coming. I think they have stayed away from each other for months. Kate did say she thought things would be better when they got the house Jon wanted, but instead, he didn't even want her in the house, so she went on tour. Maybe that's when he worked on the area.

I agree - it doesn't seem like the communication was the best honestly leading up to the delivery of the houses.

So far, every one has denied Jon has had an affair; Jon, Kate and Deanna.

If Kate had even once treated Jon with respect and love, maybe I could buy the 'poor me all alone' charade. But she didn't and I don't.

I don't know that an "affair" has been denied. I specifically recall that "cheating" was denied by Jon. Both are subject to the person using the term's definition IMHO.

I think there was love and respect at one point in the relationship and that may have gotten put on the back burner once they had 8 kids and were more in a "survival" mode and, speaking from experience, it can be VERY hard to get that back - especially if it's not what both parties want.

Here's a link to see just how far:

http://www.dlee.us/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/dlee-jonandkatehouse.jpg

It looks pretty far from the house if you ask me.

Thanks for that picture. From there it does seem crazy far away and can't see why anyone would think that's a good idea. Just me though...

The load of crap is her being afraid to say something to Jon, Playing the meek little timid wife who is afraid to voice her opinion.

Totally disagree that it's a "load of crap". I could see where it could be incredibly hard to talk to him. Communication isn't one of either of their strong suits. Jon (IMO) keeps it all inside while Kate just tends to let it out. Never method is "perfect". I don't think she was afraid to voice the opinion, but more the reaction from attempting to speak with Jon about the location and what would ensue. Kate mentioned several times that there were problems "behind the scenes" so who knows what that means....

He will not talk to her and that is being unreasonable. I think she was trying to keep the peace and let him do it where he wanted but in the end, just could not. His choice was not thought out very well.

Neither will go back to being regular people.

Totally agree about the house location and "regular" people.

Obviously the choices both Kate and Jon have made have not been in the best interest of building a strong family unit. They lost sight of what is really important if they ever had that in view to begin with.

The workers who were there to deliver, install & set up the houses were there to do just that, and not be brought into a Kate drama filled soap opera of attention getting. Kate was acting like a 3 year . She had ample time to discuss with her husband the placement of the houses

I think it could be more challenging to have a "strong family unit" if that's not what both parties want. Jon said many times he was happy with the twins and Kate's the one who wanted "just one more". Maybe that was his turning point in his head. Maybe, purely speculation, Jon decided that once the kids are 5, 6, whatever, I'm done and can't keep living like this (or maybe it was an event as opposed to the kid's ages). This could have been something he'd had on his mind for quite awhile.

As for the houses, I don't think it was only Kate in the "drama filled soap opera". Jon was just as much a diva IMO and acting very childish. Just because she was at the house or whatever doesn't mean there was time to discuss the location. It also sounds like there wasn't much conversation going on at all between the two. Maybe Jon discussed the location with TLC so they'd know where to have the cameras and Kate had discussed her "plan" with TLC, while neither are actually talking to each other to try and figure out the plan....

one of the things we'll never know, but I'm curious to ask ... I wonder how much errand running Kate did before the paps came to town? did she do all that, or someone else?

and add me to the multiple errands in a week group. notsomuch in the summer, but during the school year, when I'm in town twice a day bringing the kids to/from school ... it seems like I have an errand a day then. LOLOL

It'd be interesting to know, for me more because, I guess, how was she able to get everything done as opposed to why she didn't have someone helping her out.

I try not to make multiple trips out during the week and do most of my running either one night/day or on my lunch hours if I can.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't someone from the TLC staff go on record as saying that they didn't have enough usable footage for another complete episode beyond the ones that have already aired when the "hiatus" was called?

That's news to me! What happened to the beach stuff and the other episodes already planned/filmed for this season???

While they may have lost some loyal viewers that are too sad to continue watching, come August...Jon and Kate plus 8 will still make TLC plenty of money.

I totally agree. I think the new "premire" will draw in a few more people and of course they'll loose some because people have found a new "home" on Monday nights but I think they'll be ok. They'll really pull the "big numbers" if they have the divorce show on....

happy 4th to you too, I hope you hae a good holiday.

Aww thank you! It was long. DH worked Friday so dropping him on Friday morning on the Island then back home to clean and such and pick him up from the Island Saturday morning then he had to work OT for the fireworks Saturday night. DS4 (almost 5!!!) burned his arm on a sparkler on Saturday and I burned my arm on the oven Sunday but other than that, I think it was an OK weekend! :goodvibes

Just wanted to wish you all a HAPPY 4TH of JULY! :goodvibes I hope everyone has a wonderful, relaxing time with their families! I just realized how addicted I am to this thread...we'll be gone for 6 days and I know I'm going to miss reading it! Take care everyone! :)

Have a safe trip! Hopefully you won't have too much to catch up on!

Well actually you can be too careful. Being too careful would mean not letting them get near the shoreline at all. As parents we have to temper our comfort level with exposing our kids to new things. Another friend is afraid of flying and will not take her kids on a plane for a vacation (they will only go places that are within driving distance.)

I completely agree and will certainly admit I "smother" a bit more than I probably should. I am terrified of flying and have only flown twice and am a wreck the entire flight. Think of Kate's break down on the trip to Utah after being in the air all that time....I'm pretty much crying and freaking out like that the entire flight. I hate it and will not unless I really need to fly somewhere

that's what TLC said, but I'm not buying it.

there's a fan site that has several of the new episode descriptions (no idea if they're accurate or not) and before TLC put a stop to the show, there were 6 or more shows listed, and the beach shows weren't even listed. If they could get 2 or 3 episodes out of the trip to the Smithsonian, I'm guessing the could get at least as many out of the beach.

I agree - there's too much "out there" that's already been filmed. Maybe it's too late for them to use the Smithsonian stuff since the movie's already been out. Maybe they're waiting until the DVD is ready to come out?? Who knows. I'd think it's a waste of a lot of people's time to just trash what's already been taped. TLC HAD to know this was coming IMO based on the little part of the beach trip they showed on the last show with Kate alone and just some of the comments she made. I wouldn't beleive that TLC hadn't been working to make sure they had footage to get through several episodes if J&K stuff "hit the fan" like it did but in more of a private matter.

We set off fireworks in the day time and at night :confused3

We did sparklers in our backyard while it was still light out. My boys are still far too little to let them have stuff like that when it's dark out. DS4 burnt his arm (it was more DH's fault for reaching across DS4's arm) in the day light...I'm sure things are worse/more confusing when it's dark out.

You can see the garage area is what is closest to the road where the paps sit. Anywhere else on the property is not an easy view, b/c there are no streets there and it's more set back . Even with all that space, the kids play in a very tiny area in view of the people taking pictures. If it were me, I would pave a giant area right behind the garage (hey I'd even put in another door to go through on the back side) to have all the privacy in the world.

Looks like the 4th was a lot of....fun. Yeah.

In that link, it looks like the only parts they wouldn't been seen from the road in front of their house is behind the garage and a section behind the house. The rest looks like it could all potentially be seen from the road. Now why they're not using the "private" areas, I can't say since I don't live there and am not them. It seems like things like that would have been considered when they were looking at the house. If not more pavement, more trees and such near the road to create more of a "fence" or "natural barrier" between the house and the road so pictures wouldn't be as easy to get. Just a thought...

Ok...this is totally random and really weird, so I had to share.

I had a dream last night about my BFF Kate. Kate and the tups were SKYDIVING! :scared1: We were on a plane and one by one she would drop them out of the plane....they went down a bit and their little parachute would open..

That was too weird not to share...:rolleyes1

That's news to me! What happened to the beach stuff and the other episodes already planned/filmed for this season???
I understand that they shot stuff at the beach, but that doesn't mean that they had 23 minutes of usable footage for a complete show along with associated interview footage, etc. Also, the other episodes probably only exist on paper as planned productions that hadn't yet taken place... "In episode 5-11, J&K and the kids visit XXX and do YYY. etc." That's enough info to give TV Guide, but that doesn't mean the show is "in the can" and ready to air.

Here's that was reported by The LA Times TV Blogger:

'Jon & Kate Plus 8' goes on production hiatus
07:32 AM PT, Jun 23 2009

Jon & Kate are taking a break!

TLC's hit reality show "Jon & Kate Plus 8" is taking a production break after the couple said on Monday night's show that they were separating.

The show, which follows the lives of Jon and Kate Gosselin and their brood, has become a pop culture sensation, getting TLC its best ratings ever and providing the tabloids with a steady diet of gossip. The couple have been on more than 40 magazine covers over the last two months including seven in a row on US Magazine.

TLC said next Monday would be a clip package with some new footage, but that the next all-new episode would be on Aug. 3. People close to the show say the desire to take a production break came from the network.

So far, six new episodes of the show's 40-episode order have aired. The premiere episode drew almost 10 million viewers and the show is still doing better than it had in its previous four seasons. It has also boosted the ratings of TLC's new show "Cake Boss."

Because of all the turmoil in the Gosselin's marriage, TLC does not have enough footage to put together new episodes right now as its production schedule had become very last minute. Episodes this season were often completed as late as the day of airing.

I was on vacation last week and thought of this thread. My DD looked at me with her eyes wide one day and said "Mommy, I think Kate Gosselin just walked by!" :confused3 So of course we go and investigate knowing full well that it couldn't be Kate.
While it wasn't Kate, it was a woman with Kate's hair. :scared1: The whole week every time we saw her, DD and I just said "There goes Kate!" :rotfl::rotfl:

I couldn't believe that there was someone that purposely got that hairstyle, color and all. :rotfl2:

surely they could get enough footage out of 2 weeks at the beach. Jon and Kate weren't together... and if they can't get enough of Kate and the kids from that much filming, then TLC/Figure8 seriously needs to take a look at the future of the series.

But in the bigger picture, you might be right. Of these listed as future episodes, some are probably only on paper.

Future 2009 Episodes!

8* 100 "Another Campout" TBA

While Jon is away, Kate and the eight children have another backyard campout.

I think we saw pictures of the gear being picked up/delivered at some point in the past weeks. No idea if they ever actually did the camp out.

9 101 "The Gardening Gosselins" TBA

The Gosselins create a new garden in their backyard and catch a bunny.

11 102 "The Gift Of Gab" TBA

The Gosselins answer more questions from viewers.

probably not filmed. LOL

12 103 "The Smithsonion: Seeing The Movie (1)" TBA

After a long drive to the Smithsonian Museum, the Gosselins watch the movie Night At The Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian.

13* 104 "The Smithsonian: Seeing The Exhibits" TBA

The Gosselins check out the Air and Space Museum, the Art Museum, and the Museum of Natural History.

14 105 "The Smithsonian: Seeing The Way Home - What Lays Ahead..." TBA

The Gosselins drive home and talk about what lays ahead in the future.

I'd say they have enough footage, since there are 3 shows dedicated to it, and it was filmed some months ago.

15* 106 "Swimming, Dives, and Waterslides" TBA

The Gosselins go swimming at a waterpark where Cara and Mady perform perfect dives.
probably not filmed

16** 107 "The Divorce" August 24, 2009
A two hour premeire of what has happened since episode one of season five to the recent divorce.

in other Kate news .. it seems like Southern Women Shows has booked Kate for several appearances starting later this fall and according to the blogs, they are looking forward to Kate telling her story "without the cameras and paparazzi present."

I think it's quite possible that a number of those episodes are works in progress, but likely can't be completed as a "normal" series episode. They may have footage from places like the beach or the Smithsonian, but the shows consist of two types of footage: "in-the-field", and the after-the-fact interviews. It appears to be a four step process: they shoot the raw video, edit it down, then shoot the interview footage with a usually unheard interviewer prompting them with questions about the footage they've selected for the episode, and lastly the two sets of footage are assembled to complete the show. I think it's likely the later stages are what's got them hamstrung at the moment. If true, their only alternative to complete the episodes would be to significantly alter the format of the show and go back to using a 3rd person narrator to describe the family footage like they did in the pre-series TV "specials". It sounds to me like they opted to just "stand down" instead and see where things go.

And on a further note, how many "The Gosselin Kids Go To the Beach" episodes can you really do?

And on a further note, how many "The Gosselin Kids Go To the Beach" episodes can you really do?

exactly. they did the beach last summer. they camped last summer. they've visited museums. one of the problems with the show (shown by the ratings) is that the show was becoming boring to some .. it was either take elaborate trips or show the everyday stuff. The producers seemed to have a problem finding a balance. People hated the boring, they hated the trips.

IMO, Kate's book tour, clothes deals, etc was her attempt to quickly establish herself as a brand before the show (and as it turns out, the marriage) fell apart. It's too soon to tell whether or not the brand of Kate Gosselin is going to survive.

8* 100 "Another Campout" TBA
While Jon is away, Kate and the eight children have another backyard campout.

They showed previews last week. I think it's going to be pretty funny. Kate put up the tents!

that's one of the episodes I didn't think they would have done, since it wasn't that long ago that the camping gear was seen in some of the pictures... they really were trucking along right up until the announcement, it sounds like! I wonder if the whole episode is ready to go, or if they're still editing?

While Jon and Kate Gosselin attempt to work through their marital woes off camera, a former classmate reminisces to RadarOnline.com about a run-in with the reality couple at a reunion-before the birth of their sextuplets and their reality show, Jon & Kate Plus 8.

"The last time I saw Kate was at our 10-year reunion," Lori Stick, Kate's high school classmate, exclusively tells RadarOnline.com. "It was right before she got pregnant with the little ones and she and I were joking about how excited she was to have more children."

Stick continues, "She told me she had started fertility treatments again and told me, 'This time maybe I'll get pregnant with four!'"

As the world knows, the Gosselins, who already had twin girls Maddie and Cara, did get pregnant -- only this time with six babies. A reality show on TLC soon followed.

Stick says she tuned in to watch the first couple seasons of Jon & Kate Plus 8, but felt the show started to take a different turn after that.

"I felt the show had changed," she told RadarOnline.com. "It became less about the kids and more about Jon and Kate. I don't know, I think she treated him unfairly and he kept quiet too much."

While she admits she has since lost touch with Kate since their reunion, Stick says she wishes she could reconnect with her former friend.

"I'm really saddened by the way the whole thing has been played out," she said. "I was shocked by Jon's attitude... he's being so nonchalant, like he doesn't care. I feel they should have stopped the show sooner and worked on their marriage and their kids. By continuing to film the show, it shows what mattered most to them."

Just a piece of this article: http://www.nwanews.com/adg/Style/263468/

The Jon & Kate: Is It Too Late? special airs at 7 p.m. today on TLC. The hour program will feature a lively intervention from the entire Duggar clan as well as their good friends, the 17-kid Bates family from Lake City, Tenn. Gil and Kelly Bates and the kids are frequently featured on 18 Kids and Counting.

Special guest star will be Dr. Phil, who'll read Jon and Kate the riot act.

That means all 20 Duggars and 19 Bateses, along with Josh Duggar's pregnant wife Anna, Anna's seven siblings and her parents, along with wacky Cousin Amy and Boyfriend Mike and Dr. Phil will descend upon Wernersville, Pa., in two motor coaches and a helicopter to confront Jon and Kate in a driveout-the-devil smackdown.

It should be impressive. It'll be 52 zealots vs. the clueless Jon and Kate. I'm going to record it for posterity.

That's just pure gossip. Whether Kate was serious or joking around, we don't know. This *friend* should feel badly about selling her old *friend* out. I doubt Kate needs any more *friends* like these. They seem to be a dime a dozen.Friends do not tell things like that, period. JMHO.

This is a joke, right? There is a show by this name I think but it sounds like someone dreamed this one up.

Kinda shows how quickly this family could get some privacy and peace back if they stopped doing the show, huh?

BTW, was anyone else SERIOUSLY creeped out by the pics of the kids fighting over the tether-ball? I would be so creeped out that a stranger could get that close to them! I know that the pap probably was using a HUGE telephoto lens, but still! There was no branches in the way or anything, so it had to be pretty close. If a paparazzi can get that close, without the security guys being in the way to protect the kids from the pic, who else can get that close? That pic alone would have scared me as a parent so badly, that would have been the end of the show right there. No amount of money is worth that sort of worry.

Also, a while back in the the thread someone posted a link to a lengthy uncut interview Jon did during the 4th season. I was busy, and never took the time to comment on it, but I was stuck by 2 things during that interview. 1.) was how immature and stupid Jon seems. He was wearing some ridiculous teenager like hat or bandana on his head and he looked like an idiot - not the grown - man -father of 8 kids. They way he talks is extremely immature and slightly uneducated sounding. I had never seen an interview uncut of him before and was a bit shocked by his manner. 2.) I also was struck by when he was asked about how he feels when people say the children are being exploited, he said "well they're not, because they're not working, they're playing". I was struck by how he didn't understand the meaning of the word "exploitation". He had it confused with "child labor". Exploitation is an entirely different thing. A child does not need to be working or lift a finger to be exploited. Selling pictures of a child and keeping the money is exploitation of a child. I thought that it was sad. But then again I wasn't surprised that he didn't understand the meaning of the word, because I think anyone who truly understands what exploitation is and encompasses, wouldn't have their kids lives (whether they are playing or not) filmed day in -day out for a "reality" show while collecting money for it.

Yup, I was a little shocked by the photos of the kids -- it would seem like anybody could be photographed unless they've got a 10 foot fence around their yard, but even then...

The hat thing is veeerrrry popular among men that age around here, right down to university age, and it's pretty odd to see the dads dropping their kids off at school wearing suits and one of those hats. I guess it might look that way if you're not used to it. Seems like you would be totally unimpressed by my brother, who actually happens to wear a hat, and often while walking to work (at one of the most prestigious law firms in the province)

But I find it interesting that you saw nothing but bad about Jon in the interview ie. -- I was pretty much the opposite :confused3

I couldn't have written that article any better! That writer nailed it! What a performance! Why are they always in the front? Fireworks in the day time? All the kids lined up perfectly? Sad, sad , sad!

ITA!

In that link, it looks like the only parts they wouldn't been seen from the road in front of their house is behind the garage and a section behind the house. The rest looks like it could all potentially be seen from the road. Now why they're not using the "private" areas, I can't say since I don't live there and am not them. If not more pavement, more trees and such near the road to create more of a "fence" or "natural barrier" between the house and the road so pictures wouldn't be as easy to get. Just a thought...

Yeah, I thought so too at first, but it looks like the road that goes down the west side of their property is a private drive, possibly theirs -- it's not a public road. So, they really are in the only place the press can get a good picture of them.

Oh no :scared1::scared1::scared1: I'm just hoping kids don't start asking for it -- it will be like the Dorothy Hamill cut that all of my friends had. :scared1::scared1:

I hope someone helps Kate with her public speaking skills before sharing the stage with these ladies. :upsidedow

and in all seriousness, reading this article (that has more details about the event) .. I'm not sure where Kate Gosselin fits in with this event. Obviously, Maria Shriver does .. but, wow. To suggest that Kate is even in the same ballpark as some of these women .. I didn't get that at all.

She was invited because a teenager watched the show? I wonder if they will uninvite her, with all that has happened. I like Kate, but you are right..not in the same league.

honestly, I don't know. some of the other speakers are not without drama (Elizabeth Edwards), so I'm guessing no.

I wonder if they were trying to add some pop culture to the event, and the teenagers would have an idea of who's in right now (or 5 months ago)?

I don't see much difference between guests. They're all well known people for one reason or another but it doesn't sound like kate is a whole lot different than some of them who have been thrust into the spot for one reason or another, right or wrong, good or bad.

Captain Sully definitely stands out to me but he's not a woman anyway.

The rest of it sounds like women who will be relating their personal life experiences. Death of children (heartbreaking and tragic) and raising confident young girls. Sorry to say, I'm not a fan of Danica whoever (the race car driver). She isn't someone I want my dd to look up to but those women are few and far between anyway.
Just trying to say, I think Kate Gosselin fits in fine with the mix.

I completely disagree. What in the world is Kate going to talk about that is even in the same category as the other speakers? How to organize a garage, pack a lunch? And I want to make myself clear... in no way, shape, or form and I diminishing Kate's role as a mother. It's important.... valued. But at the end of the day, Kate's a mom. A mom with a large family. Where is that fitting in with Madeline Albright? Cindy McCain? Maria Shriver?
