We know this how? Because a rag mag tells us? Or because friends and family aren't shown on the show? Or because one brother and his wife are angry that Kate supposedly said no to their being paid beyond the lousy $3300 which was what they were paid for lights in their house, and decided to spill all to yet another rag mag?

I personally have no idea if they see friends and family, since I am not privy to their home live, just what TLC wants me to see.

When I see Kates speaking schedule, when I see how many shows are taped in a year, when Paparazzi hide in bushes to snap shots of your 5 year olds birthday party, you have crossed into the territory of "the show is more important than your relationships or family."

Ok I watched reruns of the show last night and now know it wasn't my imagination about the kids speach. There were alot of subtitels.
I'm surprised that the kids speak as clear as they do. Many multiples make up their own language. For their ages, I haven't noticed a problem with their speech, and before this week, I've not seen anyone else mention it. As for subtitles, heck, they use those on Survivor too, since it's often noisy or the talking is light, and hard to hear.
If they do have speech problems, it's usually something picked up at the doctor's office, or if remedial help is needed, at school.

I was responding to what you said about them having no family in their lives and how you know that. The rag mags have been hiding in the bushes since the show first started. I remember back when they did that to the Kennedy family, and of course Lady Diana's family, as well as countless other celebs. I wish they had more laws about the rag mags stalking.

I still have no idea if the show is more important than their family relationships, or if they see friends and family when the camera's are turned off. I also have no idea how much time Jon and or Kate spend with their family.

Kate was quoted in this interview with People saying their circle is now very small, filled with mostly managers and such.

She does reference her family and friends, though. No way to know how many of those are left.

Thanks Madge, I had read that, but like you said, we have no way to know how many are left. Jon's article (someone said it was from January) sounded like family and friends are still involved, but not wanting to be on camera. We do occasionaly see pics of them with people we don't recognize, so it does seem the friends and family want to be kept private, if that is who they are.

Speaking from Jon's perspective, it's becoming clear (at least to me) that he's been in touch with Kevin and Jodi. It doesn't sound like they're involved with the children or Kate .. but they're involved with the mess of it all. LOL. The "interview" they've given to RadarOnline seems to suggest that Kevin and Jodi have Jon's input, if not approval.

I definitely think they've thrown the kids out in the public eye way too much. On the other hand, though; paparazzi selling pics of you taking your kid to the dentist? At this point, they can't leave their house (nor can anyone they're seen with) without cameras following them. I know they signed up for the show, and the speaking engagements, but I don't know anyone who would have expected this level of "interest" from what was meant to be a small cable show. I'm just sitting here thinking what it would be like to not be able to walk out my door without being followed. :scared1:

And I thought that until Kevin and Jodi said they haven't seen Jon or Kate in over a year. So now, I'm not so sure. I can't tell when they are telling the truth LOL.

I can say I can't think of any other show that has shown so much interest. At least since the internet. I wonder what would have become of Ozzie and Harriet if the internet had been around back then.

Thank you. If they were arguing, I couldn't see it. The article said it was their yard. so maybe there were two parties.

So, they had a "fake" birthday party for their "reality" show?
Then a "real" birthday party privately?

My DH had terrible allergies as a child and the only dog he could have was a miniature schnauzer. They do not shed and are considered hypo-allergenic! I believe poodles fall into that catergory too. Just a thought. :goodvibes

Thanks! Right now DS4's facinated with fish so that may be what he gets for his birthday - that's enough of a pet for Mommy to take care of at this point! :rotfl:

They have written off everyone in their lives. Allowed the show to be more important than relationships and their family. No family can survive in the world they have created for themselves.

I have to respectfully disagree with your statement above. I don't speak to anyone in my family on a "regular" basis by any means but my family is able to "survive the world". DH's very close with his family but even with them, we generally only call his mom about once a week and the rest of the family more infrequently than that and now live about 1,000 miles away from them. While I will FULLY agre you need friends and family in your lives to support you in a variety of ways, I don't think that determines how "successful" your family will or will not be. Now I know we don't have hundreds of millions of people watching us or people "stalking" us for the next great shot of my family and that does make a difference, I just wanted to share another point of view.

I know they signed up for the show, and the speaking engagements, but I don't know anyone who would have expected this level of "interest" from what was meant to be a small cable show.

I don't think anyone expected this level of interest in the show - I know I sure didn't! It's gotten huge (which is great for the bank!) and so scary for the family! I can't imagine as a Mommy the scared feelings and constant worry Kate must feel trying to protect those kids. That would be more stress than I think I could handle....

Here's another article about the party (sorry if it's already been posted!):

How fragile is the union between Jon & Kate Plus 8 reality-TV couple Jon and Kate Gosselin?

Apparently, they can't even be civil to each other for their own kids' birthday party.

Us Magazine reports that the couple, who have been plagued by rumors of infidelity for the past month, made their first public appearance in two weeks on Sunday at the Blue Falls Grove water park in Pennsylvania.

The occasion: The fifth birthday of their sextuplets.

The mood: Decidedly chilly.

As Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel tried their best to enjoy their big day, Mom and Dad "hardly interacted at all"—though Jon did take time to talk to Kate's bodyguard, Steve Neild, who's been rumored to be having an affair with the mega-breeder.

That must have been an interesting conversation!

When the whole sad travesty of a birthday celebration was over, Jon and Kate left in separate vehicles.

Happy birthday, kiddies.

Here's another one about the fighting. Some of it's the same but I hadn't heard that Kate had locked Jon out of the house or anything like that before.... :sad2:

TLC's 'Jon & Kate Plus 8', which stars the parents of eight children, Jon Gosselin and his wife Kate Gosselin, may be what everyone sees, but the family says that's not what really goes on when the camera is off.

Jon and Kate, who have both been at the center of heated affair rumors in the last few weeks, have apparently been fighting - and the fighting is not pretty.

It's one blow-up after another in the Gosselin house and now Star can reveal the most dramatic off-camera outburst of all - the day Kate locked her hubby out of his own home.

According to Star Magazine, Kate's brother and sister-in-law Kevin and 'Aunt' Jodi Kreider reveal:"It got so bad that Kate actually locked Jon out of the house and wouldn't let him back in for a couple of hours."

Aunt Jodi says: "She's locked him out several times. And she admitted to me that her two oldest children, Mady and Cara, knew what was going on! ... They had horrible fights."

Another family source reveals: "One time, Kate was so angry over some little thing that she pulled a huge drawer out of a dresser, dumped the contents on the floor, threw the drawer on top of it and stormed out of the room!"

And during filming for the reality show, "they would fight so much that sometimes the crew would have a hard time getting 15 minutes of usable footage out of an eight-hour shoot," reveals Kevin.

Jodi adds that the children are the ones who will suffer in the end: "This is a trainwreck for all to see. It's just a matter of time before the effects of all this take a huge toll on them."

so much for cameras following them around just doing what they usually do, huh? I guess that's what the paparazzi's doing these days. :lmao:

and to be fair, we don't know that the party on Sunday was "fake" .. staged may be a more applicable word.

Then a "real" birthday party privately?

do we know there was a private party?

So it seems like they are staying together for the show and not the kids. This think just gets more disgusting by the minute.

Glad they can make a cameo to their own child's birthday party.

And because this is such a "hot topic" here:

http://www.theinsider.com/news/2189225_Hairstylists_Critique_Kate_Gosselin_s_Buzzed_About_Hairdo

Kate Gosselin recently told Entertainment Weekly that her spiky, asymmetrical hairdo reflects her "attitude," but that "it's not going to work for everybody."

Celebrity hairstylists, however, don't think the cut works at all.

"The style seems almost punk 1980s, which might be cool if it was 1985 and she wasn't a mother of eight," Jessica Gillin of NYC's Sally Hershberger Salon tells Usmagazine.com.

Gillin's gripe? "The back is way too short," she tells Us. "It is almost a men's clipper cut."

Gosselin would look cute with a pixie cut, but "she'd have to cut the front shorter," says Gillin. If she wanted a bob, "she'd need more length in the back."

Right now, Gosselin just looks like she "has two haircuts going on that don't blend at all," says Gillin.

Says Valery Joseph, owner of Valery Joseph Salon in NYC: "The only aspect of this look that works are her side bangs. But her smooth, long bangs just do not match with the short, spiky back."

Joseph adds that the look is "definitely not appropriate for a woman of that age." (Gosselin is 34.)

Joseph jokingly calls the look "the modernized version of the mullet -- business in the front, party in the back."

Matthew James Fugate of NYC's Sam Brocato Salon tells Us there is a plus side to Gosselin's 'do: It won't take long to style.

"Hold your super long bangs in your hand," he jokes, "and put the rest of your hair in a salad shooter."

Kate, her brother & sil, may not get along but they (brother & SIl) have little regard for the children or they would no be blabbing Jon & Kate's dirty laundry to a rag-mag.
