Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

I did elaborate. It's a personal choice...now that they've lived the good life, there's no turning back. Not like it's literally impossible to go back (well, I suppose technically it is, but you get what I'm saying) to their "old life."

that's how I've always looked at it, as well. I've never thought it was literally possible for them to go back to their old life. Even if they did in the material sense, there would be (for a while, at least) difficult to blend into the community after being high profile. It isn't like Kate can just start sending nurse resumes around and get a job like a regular person. A few years down the road, maybe? But not immediately after they decided to re-enter society.

I suppose it would be difficult but I believe their kids are worth the difficulty it would cause.

Sure it would be difficult for them to blend back into their community. Though from what I've read, their community isn't too enamored with them and their celebrity status. I'll bet J&K could get a job no problem in their area. People may gawk at them at first but that would wear off eventually. They have to start somewhere, they can't be celebrities forever. I'm not saying it would be easy, but I think it would be more ideal and healthy for the kids and for J&K themselves. They have 8 great little reasons to do so in my opinion. :goodvibes

It is sad, but it couldn't have come as a total shock. They put themselves out there and now with the Jon thing going on it is bringing even more attention. I'm sorry, I just have a hard time working up alot of sympathy for people who want to be famous, but then complain about the attention. I have sypmpathy for the kids, but not for Jon and Kate.

Sorry, but you can't be a celebrity just when you feel like it.

I disagree, if she would stop the show, within 6 months
they would be yesterdays news.

I totally agree with what you're saying. It's not too late for them to stop. Whatever their reasons are for continuing on is their business, but my personal opinion is they need to give the children a "real" life and bank what they've earned and invest wisely to provide the kids with a nice future.

---------------------

I agree 100%..

They have made plenty of money already - and the book(s) will continue to generate money.. It's not like they're going to end up in a homeless shelter.. If they have been financially responsible, they could end the show right now and get on with their lives - out of the public eye.. I think they owe that to their children - especially in light of recent events..:sad2:

As for the pictures from yesterday - she had two different shirts on so either they're not from the same day or she changed clothes at some point. If the little white box she's holding was the cake, that's just sad! Either everyone got a VERY tiny piece or it was only the 10 of them (still getting a tiny piece). No grocery store I've ever seen has the fancy chairs or spray tan sign that one had. :rolleyes1 It had to be something else in the box I would think.

I live in the area. The second shot of Kate and the man is from our local grocery store (I recognize the housing in the background and I shop often at this Giant store). The photo with Kate and the box is not the grocery store. I do not recognize the tanning place, but I also do not tan...so less likely I would know this business.

You live in the same area? I've read that Jon and Kate's community aren't very thrilled with them. Is it true that the people in the area don't care for Jon and Kate? Thanks.

Worked for me.

That second photo could have been a hair salon with a tanning inside. That box could have been something someone made for her. A friend, her hairstylist, or she could have even picked whatever it was up at that place--whether bought by her or given to her. Who knows? If kate so inspires some people, someone could have given her something for Mother's Day, you never know.

I just got finished watching the 700 Club interview. I thought she seemed quite unemotional, very serious, and very sad. It truly made me think Jon is either cheating on her or things are really bad at home right now. She looked upset, for sure, IMHO. When the interviewer made a comment about her beautiful family, I thought the look on Kate's face was odd. Can't explain it but it just seemed like she was saying my beautiful family is now broken or something. :guilty: I felt badly for her as she seemed to be holding back emotion through the whole interview.

The "no turning back" statement could be a personal thing. The family has lived and enjoyed the perks of celebrity. I can imagine that would be hard to ditch. Unfortunately there's not a whole lot of precedence for this. Child movie stars are quite a bit different than this situation. They're separated from their peers, away from home, taught by a tutor, etc. The Gosselins go to a regular school, are usually in the comfort of their own home, etc. I don't know a lot about the other reality families, but I don't think they've been on long enough to really see a pattern.

Yes, there is certainly a pattern developing with reality families. It ruins them. The Osbornes had two kids end up in rehab, the Hogans got divorced, Nick and Jessica got divorced, Danny Bonaduce and his wife split, now Jon and Kate. Fame and fortune have a price, and it's steep.

My apologies if this has already been posted, but I saw another preview for the new season tonight where they head down to Baltimore to Charm City Cakes for Kate's birthday. I've seen the Emeril preview, but this one was new to me.

No, please don't let Kate hurt Duff!!

Kate could open up her own tanning place and Jon could open a bar, if they wanted to quit the show.:lmao:

They're going to be on with Duff?? Yikes - that will be interesting to say the least! Hopefully Duff and gang pick on her a little bit! :goodvibes (I love Ace of Cakes!)

I love your ideas for post-show jobs! I'm actually surprised they haven't done something like this yet - tried to open a store/webiste/chain/something to generate more "long term" income. Did I hear somewhere (I think it was on some entertainment news show over the weekend - Saturday maybe?) that Kate was designing a line of kid's clothes??

I just read an article written by someone who was on MTV's The Real World (Rachel Campos) and she married someone who was also on the show. They've moved to a small town and were recently approached to do another reality show. They declined.

I'll try to find the article.

it's for Kate's birthday?

I read something about Charm City being featured, and thought (assumed?) it was for the children's birthday cake. That's what the season opener is -- the sextuplets birthday. I haven't seen the commercial, so I guessed wrong. LOL

Just read this about the upcoming 5th season...

Report: Jon & Kate Plus 8 Premiere Still Not FinishedUs Magazine - 27 minutes ago

Us Magazine The fifth season premiere of TLC's Jon & Kate Plus 8 is running late.

According to the Los Angeles Times, producers are trying to incorporate the couple's martial woes into the show, just two weeks before its May 25 air date.

As Us Weekly exclusively reported last week, Jon Gosselin has been having a three-month affair with 23-year-old school teacher Deanna Hummell. While Jon has denied an affair, Kate has said she is "hesitant to believe" the report. "We're dealing with it privately," she said on NBC's Today show May 7.

Kate said they had no plans to address the affair on the show but would talk about the strains on their marriage.

Marc Berman, senior television editor at Mediaweek, tells Usmagazine.com all the scandal could "a problem for the show. Suddenly, the focus of the show is not on the children -- it's on them."

"This is a TLC show that attracts a lot of young kids, teens. This is not Keeping Up with the Kardashians," he says. "What are they going to call the show - Kate Plus 8 Minus John?"

The bottom line, says Berman: The couple need to be "true to the audience" and explain what exactly is going on or fans "could feel alienated."

Like Nick Lachey and ex-wife Jessica Simpson (sources told Us they earned up to $100,000 per show in later episodes of their MTV show), Jon and Kate "became victims of their own success," Berman says.

A TV agent who deals primarily with reality shows estimates that the two probably earn between $50,000-$75,000 an episode.

"They began making money," Berman says of Jon and Kate. "Suddenly, they're not who they are anymore. They're this Hollywood couple. You get all this money and ultimately it kind of changes who you are."

Just watched RR show w/Kate. Thought it went pretty well. She was charming and somewhat relaxed. Regardless of how their current circumstances have come about--this is a very difficult time. Hopefully they will weather the events and move forward TOGETHER.

I saw the preview too. It is for Kate's birthday. If I heard it right, Kate is surprised with the trip because she usually bakes her own cake.

some of us have been saying these things for a little while now .. :upsidedow

ahhhhh.... that makes sense.

so this episode is going to be part Kate's birthday and part sextuplets birthday?

Kate has been trying to sell herself for awhile now as far as other "fame" opportunties go. She "suggested" an idea of TLC putting her on with Stacy and Clinton's What Not To Wear as a consultant. She's trying to get her own talk show. So, Kate's days of fame and fortune are not over for her. She doesn't want them to be.

Kate, a consultant? I thought that Jon was the one with an eye for fashion. Does anyone else remember the show where Jon took Kate shopping because she didn't like to shop for herself and she said that Jon is much better at it then she is?
