DVC Chit Chat Thread

I have never been more grateful that I booked all of my airfare for the year in January. Even my November trip. The prices now are shocking.
I booked our October trip with miles (which was shockingly priced well) a month ago. I’ve been watching our December trip dates and they hadn’t budged until yesterday. They dropped and I jumped on it. This morning the cheapest flight shot up $100. 😳

We’re planning on driving in January.

I had to stop collecting because of space limitations. One thing, I don't buy the made in china mugs because now the design wears off.
Last mugs I collected were from the Tea Shop in Epcot in the UK. Over a couple of trips I bought 6 of the Dunoon bone china mugs and use them all the time for my afternoon tea. I went back to see if they had any more designs and they were gone. I'll keep watching as it's fun to come home with 'something'.

Pins - stopped collecting years ago but I have a few hundred of those, to include the DVC pins they used to give away.
Occasionally I'll buy a requested item for a friend who likes stuff like hoodies or tshirts.

Edit: I forgot about my Dooney bags. When they first came out with the sketch pattern I bought 3. Over time I've collected a few more but I've now stopped as I'm rarely carrying a bag anymore. Those 20% ap discounts came in handy.

I'm currently drinking out of an Inside Out anxiety mug "made in Thailand" and the design is so faded. So disappointing. Because of that, I decided that with future mugs, I only drink out of them briefly and then put them up on top of our kitchen cabinet to display after that. But I will probably continue to buy some just to drink out of and let fade.

The costs of flying is making me reevaluate my travel plans as well. Now debating less trips but staying longer or canceling a trip and saving the points for the future. Hard to know how airfares will pan out for the rest of the year.

I'm nervous about flight costs as well. Waiting on Southwest to open schedule for next January. But it's already looking bad on other airlines so I don't have high hopes.

Hilton Head trip is fast approaching! Is there anything we absolutely must bring with us? I'm really unsure what we're going to want to pack for this trip.

Is this your first visit there? I want to go someday! I can't wait to hear about your trip!

This is also partly the nature of how I travel. I tend to do fewer, longer trips rather than more frequent shorter ones. That's mostly because I want to make sure that the time invested in flights is "paid back" by long vacations, but that also amortizes the money spent on those flights. The Tokyo trip is "short" at only eleven days--that's tolerable mostly because I have nonstop flights between DTW and NRT. I won't go to Hawaii for anything less than two weeks, though I will island hop once in the middle. This upcoming trip is a week on Oahu followed by a week on one of Molokai, the Big Island, or Kauai. Waiting to see what the exchange options are for those. My "usual" WDW trip is 7-8 nights, though I will infrequently do a long weekend.

Sometimes I think I'd like shorter, more frequent DLR and WDW trips. But the cost of airfare or the time it takes to drive just makes that unrealistic. I'm jealous of people who got several times a year!

I have 2 mugs that no longer show any design, completely wiped out. I put them away in the high cupboard and donate to my son in law who drinks a lot of coffee and loses and breaks stuff because he has the cups with him in his work truck and on the job. He's a contractor and always doing something.

My May WDW airfare dropped by $50 a ticket yesterday so I cancelled and rebooked, and now hold a $100 credit. The same airfare went up $55 overnight. If you are looking for a cost savings, you have to look repeatedly and be content with a credit it seems.

Truthfully, an extra $200/ticket will not really cause me to cancel a trip since it's just my husband and I traveling. But I may cancel one of our short Disneyland trips because the airfare is stupid expensive and rates that I'm used to paying for WDW trips. I'm on the west coast and not used to paying so much for a 2 hour flight to CA.

Ive had some PM and ask about my shiny new badge "DIS supporter". In case you didnt know they added a new option to pay to be ad free. So while I am so cheap I buy shady knockoffs from SHEIN, I justified spending $4.99 a month for the boards, since the ads really affect my usage. I did it for you guys, since I love chatting, arguing and bantering with you so much.

I am contemplating this. Does it make the mobile experience better? The ads tend not to bother me on my laptop, but on my iPhone, they are pretty annoying. Might be worth it if it significantly improves the mobile experience.

I have had the opposite problem, mostly issues on my MAC not many issues on my phone. Although I have had some in the past on my phone. As of now the issues on my desktop have disappeared and mobile is running smoothly.

Well, I should clarify. I have had some problems on Mac at times with the website running slowly - I think, taking up too much processing power. But on my iPhone is where the ads pop up endlessly - not that big of a deal to click them away, but if it eliminated those, I might like it. Maybe I’ll give it a try and see whether I think it’s worth it.

Yeah thats why I did one month at first to see how it goes even though the annual saves money.

Done.

So I guess DVC was for you then?
I guess so.

Our initial plan was once every 3 years, which didn’t make sense after talking it through on here.

We reevaluated and decided we’d try every 2 years and it gives us something to look forward to. Every other year, we would vacation somewhere else and that could work just fine.
