Jon and Kate Plus 8, Official Thread-Part 3

I never said it was okay for any of those families. :confused3 This thread is about J&K.

I also don't watch any of those shows so I wouldn't feel the need to find a thread on them.

Fine. I don't think there should be child labor laws on them because they seem to not be forced for a camera, they are doing things they would probably be doing without the cameras on them. By the way, I mentioned other families not to bring them into attention but to bring up the case of what are the kids working vs. things they would do everyday.

This picture really speaks a thousands words doesn't it.

yes. that child needs a bike helmet.

That is what I thought. Jon looked exhausted. Kate looked angry and upset. Given the situation on both of them what do you expect?

I am not a Kate or Jon basher, I equally like & dislike both of them.
But she made it seem like it was so exhausting planning a party. Really how many moms or dads plan a party by themselves without help from the other parent? She was really irritating with I am doing this all alone. Seriously, how can you feel bad for her? There are many single parents who do it alone. Then there are many married parents who do it alone.
Jon didn't look like he wanted to be at the party.
If Jon did cheat, we honestly don't know. There are just accusations and pictures. He needs to man up and take responsibility for his actions.
Maybe he already has, since Kate kept saying that Jon has made some poor choices.
They both need to step away and think about their kids. After all they kept saying that they are there for their kids.

I got the impression that in Jon's mind he was already gone...and that Kate was trying to save her TV show. Neither seemed interested in fixing their marriage, especially if it means giving up their bread and butter.

There is something else I would like to point out. As far as the paparazzi go, it seemed there were none, until Jon was spotted hanging out in a bar with young women. So, if he now feels like he is in a fishbowl, it's no ones fault but his own. What, I guess he resents not being able to cheat on his wife in private? Too bad for him.

Exactly. ITA. Jon wants to have his cake and eat it too. It kills me that he is all offended by the tabloids ... sorry, you wouldn't be IN the tabloids if you weren't out with another woman at 2am. And seriously, who goes to another man's house and lays out in his yard in a bikini with his eight kids running around? That was just totally bizarre to me.

I got that impression about Jon also. He seemed really distracted.

Its almost like there is a curse on Reality TV families.

That's a really great point. They probably weren't followed night & day by armies of paparazzi until there was a juicy enough reason.

I hope the children's safety isn't compromised by all this chasing. We all know the Princess Diana story, Madonna on her horse, Britney, etc.

Wow, I remember when this thread was full of love for Jon! I still remember thinking he was great because he did all the bathing of all the kids every night. Plus, remember back when he got the sextuplets up and ready for the day, got the twins off to school and brought Kate her cup of coffee in bed before he had to go to work? Not saying he was perfect or anything, just saying I still remember those times on the show and on this thread and I never would have predicted the dramatic change of tone. I'm surprised by how many people now say they always thought he was lazy and didn't do anything.

As I was watching this episode of Kate talking to the cameras while the kids got themselves ready, I thought about how getting the kids' shoes on and getting them out the door was always Jon's job. Yes, they have both always harped on each other, but at one point they made a great team. Kate cooked and cleaned and organized, Jon dressed and bathed and played with the kids.

I thought they were both so different last night. Jon looked horrible and I really found myself wanting to like him again, but feeling disgusted by his spacey speaking and movements. I didn't believe him when he said he didn't cheat. I found myself feeling sorry for Kate, but also feeling like she was playing the part of the "victim". She was way more kissy-kissy with the kids than usual and it was ridiculous how many times she mentioned that she was doing everything "alone". I felt she's playing the victimized devoted mother for sympathy.

Whether the show ended now or not, I think too much damage has been done here and their marriage is finished. I do not see Kate as the type to look past an affair and repair the marriage, even if Jon wanted to fix the marriage. I'll be really surprised if they stay married or even really try to work on the marriage. In my opinion, what's done is done and although it may be a good time to pull the plug and stop the show because it's gotten out of control with the paparrazi and all, I don't think that will repair this.

disagree.
there have been many people observing the amount of work the Gosselin children do, in relation to child labor laws. this was going on before there was ever a hint of dischord between Jon and Kate.

I must have missed a whole bunch of pages. What work do the Gosselin children do? I think the most (other than play and have fun and hit each other and go fun places) I have seen them do is put their plates in the garbage. Once I did see them put away their toys in the cellar.

It was already taped, prob before it hit the fan with Jon, when they could both still pretend it was going to be alright. There are pictures out of them riding their bikes.

I'm not sure if this has been addressed, but the OCC episode was being filmed last week.

Then why is okay for the Rolloff family, Tori & Dean, The Osbournes, Richard Simmons Family Jewels (which is more scripted), The Duggar Family etc & etc?

I think you mean Gene Simmons Family Jewels, The Richard Simmons version would be quite different :lmao:.

(disclaimer: I don't have a strong opinion about this one way or the other .. I just know I've seen it mentioned on many sites pertaining to the show)

they are on television... but as part of a reality show/documentary, they are exempt from the labor laws that protect child actors.

Paul Patterson, of A Minor Consideration, has several entries about this (and not just about the Gosselins) on his site.

Thanks for the update. I thought I had heard from someone on another blog in the Orange County area that the film crews had been there some time ago while the bikes were built and decisions made. At that time, she had reported that all seemed well.

Everyone needs to remember that this is produced reality. I have some insight into how reality shows work (friends with someone who was on a reality show). The only way that a show is successful is if the people involved are "titled". This happens sometimes before the show is even taped. Example-"the bad girl", "the cheater", "the strong one", etc.

Everyone is fine with their roles initially. Then comes season two. They see themselves on tv and realize they don't like to be viewed so one dimensionally. The producers promote or edit only what continues these titled personalities. They believe people have started to identify with the person. The viewer wants the character to ask a certain way.

The viewers, producers, and the other people in the show expect the same behavior/personality from the cast. People start to feel suffocated by these personas.

I think this divorce issue is two-fold. You have Jon rebelling against his reality show personality. You also have the producers driving this story. Drama creates viewers. It's that simple.

I doubt all the people who pledge not to watch will actually stop watching. Society always loves a train wreck.

My heart has always been with this kids. I am not a frequent viewer, but I have caught the show. No amount of money is worth the damage that the show has caused. No one should have celebrity thrust upon them without their consent.

it sounds like a lengthy process, and they were there more than once, maybe? the pics I saw were dated last week... we all know how quickly things spiraled out of control with the Gosselins, it may very well have been fine (or at least seemed fine) the first time the crews were there.

When Kate was complaining 6 times about being "alone" and having to plan the kids birthday party all by herself (which made me roar laughing because I had never considered that some husbands would help with planning a birthday party :lmao:) was anyone else screaming at the TV "How do you think Jon felt for the last year while you were on the road with your bodyguard doing speaking engagements and book tours and he was ALONE at home with the kids???!!!" The woman had literally been home for like 1 day with kids at that point.

How about how she admits the kids were calling her by the "babysitters" (not NANNY mind you, but babysitter) name!

Doesn't this woman realize that nobody is buying the load of crappola anymore? She is so arogant and self absorbed and in such a habit of blaming Jon for everything, that she doesn't even get it!!!

Stop the show Kate, save your marriage (although if Jon has 1/2 a brain left after years of abuse from her, he will be hightailing it out of there). Even if you can't save your marriage (which I think is the case by now), stay home and take care of babies! Get them out fo the media you crazy, self-absorbed , money hungry, shrew!

I've been to Paul Peterson's site (I even remember when he was a child star), but honestly, I can't figure out what he really does. I know he accepts donations which is supposed to help kids from the past and future, and puts stories about child actors on the site, and a long time ago, I heard him give a speech about children's rights, but he was mostly talking about those from the 50-60's. What exactly does his organization do to help what he considers are kids that shouldn't be on tv or in movies? I've always thought he was a nice guy, but after many trips to his site I just don't see what it is the organization actually does to help kids nowadays. I'm not at all meaning to put him down, but I've read and read and read the site. It doesn't really, that I could find, address the point of it. Have they been instrumental in changing recent laws, or what?

honestly, I'm not really sure. the child labor law aspect is not something I've paid that much attention to in the JK8 saga. :upsidedow I just know it gets brought up a lot on all the anti-blogs.
