well, that's true.

but Jon & Kate's relationship with their extended family has been the focus of many questions for a long time. As a PR person, if you've got some of these people (mom, grandmother .. the immediate extended family) at an event, wouldn't you make a effort to get them on camera?

another one of those things (like pretty much everything else) we'll never know. LOL.

And how do you know that they didn't make the effort to get them on camera, but they still wouldn't agree. You can't force them to be on camera. And you have to respect their wishes if they truly don't want to be on camera.

that's absolutely correct.

of all the things that have been said about the Gosselins, the one thing that Jon & Kate have confirmed is their strained (or whatever word you want to use) relationship with their extended family. It's not like I'm pulling this out of some GWoP bag of nasty rumors or something. The likelihood is pretty high that none of the immediate extended family was there.

But you all are right. They could have chosen to not be on camera. And if they ever show pics that prove that .. I'll happily retract my thoughts on the subject :upsidedow

They have confirmed that they are estranged from her family not his.
They have said that his family is not interested in participating in the show and that his mother and step-father work full time and have active lives.

they probabaly weren't in Hawaii, then.

I thought she moved out of the area or something....

I believe it was Joan that moved out of the area, not Janet. Remember that episode when they delivered the Christmas cookies and sang carols? They mentioned that Janet didn't live very close to them.

I thought his mother lived in Hawaii. In one of the episodes before the wedding they said they were going to visit her. It seems likely that she was there and just didn't want to be on camera.

And why is their relationship with their family such a big deal? I can think of only one time on LPBW that they've showed Amy's parents and that was when she came back to CMU to give a speech. They show Matt's parents a lot more often. It doesn't seem like the kids get to see her side of the family much, but no one makes a big deal about it. On the Duggar's show it seemed like they don't visit Michelle's family much and again no one makes a big deal about it.

I tend to believe that Jon's mother was there, but opted out of being on camera. It fits with the other things they have said about her.

She grew up in Hawaii, but I don't believe she lives there. If I remember correctly at one time when answering Email on the show Jon said she live a few hrs away from them.
I know he said that he used to go with his mother to visit family in Hawaii.

 I know what you mean, but it's a contradiction in terms! Haha!! I also doubt any of Kate's family was there, but Jon's parents (mom and step-dad) may have been.

Yeah, I think Jon's mom probably still lives where he grew up (wherever they have that 4th of July parade that he's been to every year of his life except this year).

I couldn't think of a better way to say what I wanted .. it was the best I could come up with :rotfl:

The relationship with Jon & Kate and their families has always been an issue - and not a fabricated GWoP issue (if you know what I mean). Why it's a big deal? Not a clue - it's always been part of the fabric of the controversy.

No, I could have sworn on the one episodes leading up to the wedding that they said they were going to go visit his mother while they were in Hawaii. It might have been in the San Diego episode.

Are you watching right now? I wish I could have gone to that yard sale! Great stuff and it was supporting a great cause.
Kate seems like she's in full "Kate" mode. Ordering Jon around, not doing anything herself, etc. I've heard her say she's angry or irritated more times than I can count. She's a peach!

OK, I totally relate to Kate in this episode. I thought she seemed pretty tame compared to how she could have been.

Anyone want to take bets on how many times the phrase "damage control" comes into play?

I watched.

My 13 year old has never seen JK8. He was doing his homework in the same room as I was watching. 15 minutes into the show he declared Kate the most complaining person he's ever heard. :rotfl:

Boring episode. Really. They're stretching for material IMO.

Nice that they gave the money to charity. That's pretty much all I can say.

Oooh, and, yes, the climber that guy bought for $15...I got it at consignment for $70!! Definitely some good deals. I'm a stroller freak and, although I don't have triplets, would have loved to know what the triples went for at the sale.

I'll save you the trouble ;)

In this episode, we heard mention of:
~ having a yard sale and selling things donated to them for charity

~ making sure the kids were involved with the giving back

~ how much they miss Jon's dad*

~ Carla, a helper not seen much lately

ALL things mentioned on both of the pity blogs. Coincidence? C'mon.

* with regards to Jon's dad ... I do think his reminiscing was genuine. Of course he misses his father :( So for the sake of my argument, I don't want to use that. But I can see where other, less caring bashers would.

I liked it, but I love having yard sales!! Haha!! We make events out of them...pull out the grill, blast some music, get friends and family involved. It's like getting paid (and getting free space) to party!

Is Carla one of the earlier featured sitters? I remember the name, but I thought she looked a little older than this Carla. I didn't get a great look at her face, though.

The grammer and speleeng notzie in me would have been irritated with the signs, too! :teacher:

On a non-JK8 note...we'lll be in WDW next week!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, back to the discussion...

I love that they complained but will now bash because those complaints have no legs.

I'm not a fan of yard sales ... I do the consignment thing for the clothes, and Salvation Army for my other stuff. I'd just as soon have the charitable donation and give my things to someone that can use them.

I thought that was THE Carla - the way she mentioned her as Carla, without explanation, led me to believe she's someone we'd seen before. KWIM?

ME TOO! That was awful!!

have a great time!!!!

I thought it was just blah. There wasn't much of the kids, though ... and that's the one reason I watch. LOL

they don't now. they did before, IMO.

I still believe the basis for this particular episode was a direct result of blog research ... which is damage control in my book.

We usually donate leftovers to our church. I'd rather our items be given directly to those in need (as opposed to having them sold). I also had a friend who worked at Goodwill in high school, and the workers always took what they wanted before it did any good for the intended recipients of charity.

It might have been. I could very possibly be remembering the name but someone else's face.

 Here's a banana because my message (since it was in quotes) was too short.
