A pedicure at a spa is between $42 and $52 dollars for an adult. It is $20 for a child, that does not include skin exfoliation, only filing the toenails, polishing, and putting cream on their legs. I have paid up to $70 for a spa pedicure. At a resort, the prices are even higher than above which is just at a local salon.

I agree what someone else said about giving back. I do think the little kids are too little, but Jon/Kate are not. It just seems like they really take and then the comment about "coming back soon." Who is paying for that?

And if they do film J&K out on a 'mission' excursion, then everyone would be blasting them for publicly making a show of them "giving back". They're pretty much damned if they do and damned if they don't at this point for almost anything they do publicly.

I agree, I remember when J & K visited the place that they stayed right after the babies were born and the babies were still in the NICU. At the end Kate gave the staff a check and people criticized her for doing it on camera. But if it wasn't shown, people would criticize them for not donating. Unfortunately, that is the consequence of having your life constantly filmed as a "reality" show, instead of say an annual special. We can only go by what is presented...they never show the twins playing with friends, doing activities (other than that cooking class that they showed once), taking music lessons, but that doesn't mean those things don't go on. I think that is part of the problem-the show can't or won't show the family doing the mundane, everyday things that are part of every family's life and that many viewers can relate to. So they focus on these trips (wasn't this Hawaii trip three episodes?) which kind of makes the family less relatable to me. JMO.

OK, I understood that crews pick like one specific day or set of days per month to shoot - it's not like they live in their home. So it would seem that they only need to make arrangements to 'exclude' Aunt Jodie from family life on filming days. Sounds like more speculation than fact.

Upon retrospect, and if what Thalia posted has a grain of truth, I give Kate credit for still talking to Aunt Jodi. Jodi's sister was the one who demonized Kate on her website, and Jodi even appeared via video to verify that it was true. I understand that Jodi is the kids' aunt and her husband is Kate's brother, but I'm not sure if I could forgive her for that stunt.

Not only critizing but trying to say that it couldn't be a personal because of the way the check looked, so it had to be a TLC check and the entire thing was staged.

As said before Kate is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't and it makes me sick.

Oh that's right! I forgot about the people saying it was a TLC check. Really, some people are way too involved in this (of course, not us here on the disboards!)

They are from New Jersey. He is a cop in Marlboro. I have a friend that is a cop in another Monmouth County town and is making a six figure salary after about 12 years on the force.

Dang!! As a street cop? Not a Sgt or anything?? DH has 10 years on & he's not near 6 figures....wow...good for them I say! Lord knows they put up w/enough!! (I'm a little biased of course , but I could never do that job!)

damn. I reallllly had hoped that it was a yard sale, and the mention of the charitable donation on the website was all that there would be.

and it is. I know I say that regularly, but some of the things that have happened since all the bad publicity of the summer is damage control. It is. You can't tell me it isn't - we know they're reading the blogs, they have professional representation, etc. There's got to be SOMEONE out there listening to the critics ... for the Gosselin franchise is to remain successful, then they have no choice but to listen the critics and make necessary adjustments. It's good business sense, IMO.

But for the donation to charity? It's one of my pet peeves (specifically, the Gymboree & Gap clothes) that they don't give back. It's no secret that they consign. What I would like to see happen? They make the donation that ISN'T part of the PR machine/show. Just do it, with no muss or fuss. And maybe hear about it later, as an aside... or from the charity that benefits. And maybe they do that. I truly hope they are. I hope that Jon & Kate are teaching those children how genuinely blessed they are.

You know what? Even if it was a TLC check, they wouldn't have received the (I'm sure sizeable) donation if it weren't for the Gosselins.

This is one of the reasons I feel that in my opinion the Gosselins have become "unrelatable"... We (the viewers) look at pedicures and say, yikes, this would be pricey - but the Gosselins do not have to worry about things like that anymore, like most of us do. I believe that due to the show they are very wealthy. I have friends who are very well-off and to them $90 at a pop for pedicures would be nothing! If they were a family of ten people without a tv show, living on one parent's income, I doubt they would be getting pedicures, traveling to these great luxury vacations, etc. The show is the choice they have made to insure that their kids have these things, and that's fine. However, it has gone beyond them doing the show to insure the kids' college funds, support themselves in a normal "middle class" manner, etc. Once they move to their new home, they will be living on a much higher economic plane than most of us viewers. They are certainly entitled to do that, but to me that makes the show more "aspirational" than relatable, kwim? Something like pedicures for six people would be "pricy" for us, but not for the Gosselins. I think most of us can relate to going to Hershey Park or Crayola Factory with our families; luxury Hawaiian vacations, with five days at a luxury resort in San Diego, or a deluxe Utah ski vacation, not so much.

Everyone watches The (Un)Real housewives of Atlanta, Orange County, etc and they certainly aren't relatable.

that was really adoreable. After she said it I thought the same thing.. "yeah! why are they getting robes if they are just getting pedicures?!" Apparently I've never had THAT fancy of a pedicure yet.

I understand the pedicure, but why oh why does a 4 year old need someone rubbing her legs and arms? Is it to relieve the stress of preschool?

Everyone watches The (Un)Real housewives of Atlanta, Orange County, etc and they certainly aren't relatable.

The Real Housewives show never started out as a series people felt they could relate to, though. Bravo (is that the channel?) never marketed it that way.
