Jon and Kate Plus 8 official Thread, Part 2!!

Just wanted to mention that I saw a (not so great) picture of J&K this morning in the Proctor and Gamble coupons with Kate's "budget" tips. I'm not a budget whiz by any means but I have better tips than that (at least I'd like to think I do!). Many of them found here on the DIS so maybe Kate should come check us out!

For those who didn't see them, I think (already threw out the scraps) they were to have everyone in the house use the same product (so you can buy in bulk), letting the kids help and something else.

Back to the other discussions...

:rotfl2: I saw it and just wrote a letter to P&G telling that what idiots they are for allowing her to be a spokes model for their company. They just bought a 1.3 million dollar home her in Pa. and they shop at Banana republican, after living off the state of Pennsylvania for years. As for the hints, they were a joke. On the episode of them moving out, they say how the boys will just pulling toilet paper off and watch it go down the toilet.

This is a very good point. I really don't/have never understood why ppl. always want to criticize J&K anytime they're not struggling. Why can't we just be happy for them?

I do understand both sides of this argument, but in reality, if Kate didn't have these kids, she would most likely be in the poor house, I mean in the book she wrote Jon had lost 2 jobs, Lets face it, she is making a killing off of selling her kids to the media. I read somewhere that the house was over a million dollars, not bad for someone who's hubby had lost 2 jobs and they didn't know where their next meal was coming from.

I seriously doubt they'd be in the poor house. Nurses make very good money in PA.

Maybe not the poor house, but not a 1.3 million dollar house.

I'm sure that if Jon worked during the day and Kate worked nights/weekends they could make ends meet. The kids wouldn't wear Gymboree head to toe and they wouldn't live in a huge house, but there would be food on the table.

I think it would be a better option than selling the kids out...but that is just MHO. You know what they say about opinions....;)

my criticisms of Jon & Kate haven't been because they aren't struggling. and I haven't been critical of everything they've gotten as a result of the show. In fact, I feel like I've been pretty supportive of the new house and all that will come with it (furnishings, decor, etc). I'd feel the same way about new cars .. if and when they get them. Of course they'd have those things, they've earned a lot of money. Why wouldn't they "move on up"? I think it's crazy to assume they'd stay in their old house. I never understood that.

most of my criticisms have been with Kate's attitude and seeming lack of gratitude sometimes. that clouds my judgment every time. I could probably muster up a little bit of happiness if I didn't have the overwhelming feeling that they stepped on so many people on their way to fame and fortune.

I agree, they certainly did a lot of "taking" from others to get where they are now. Being in the medical field, I honestly cannot picture Kate as a compasionate nurse. She isn't compasionate to her husband or kids so she will treat a stranger any better? This show should be over--its getting to be worse than some of the reality shows out there. The kids are adorable but let them have a normal childhood.

I know a few nurses that treat their kids/spouses rather roughly, and yet they are still adequate nurses. I think some people can just "turn it on" for work.

The comment at the end of the moving show floored me......"the kids deserve this new house", when I think of all the families that are loosing their houses everyday it makes me sick!

When I heard her make that comment it rubbed me the wrong way, too. I don't know, maybe it was the way she said it.

I agree, coming from a family of nurses. I don’t see how she was ever a nurse. She cleaned a refrigerator with mold in it without wearing gloves? :confused3 My mom worked nights as a nurse when we were in school, so that she could be home with us. My mom never asked for a hand out from the state. Even when My Dad and her divorced, and she raised the four still at home on her own. I am the youngest out of seven, and the only daughter who did not become a nurse. I don’t like blood.:rotfl:
My sisters are nurses. My one sister I know use to make over $45 an hour as a RN labor and deliver nurse. Kate and Jon could have been able to work and get by, but they got a Tv show and now are rich. I don’t know why they would even try to have more children if they knew they could not afford it, knowing that her chances of have multiple births would be. I just hope that the state of Pennsylvania got back there money for supporting them. As a taxpayer of this state, it upsets me. I do think they needed a new house, for privacy reasons for the children. I know people who live near the old home here in Pa.But a 1.3 million dollar house? Come on, that is just crazy. Kate sucker that one out of someone.I do watch the show, but I really do not like it anymore due to the fact it is now a show with infomercials on products they are having their kids promote. She is a spokeswoman for Kmart, yet I don’t see Jon or Kate wearing Kmart clothes, nor the children. Banana republic is a bit pricier then Kmart. I see them keeping these kids on the show forever, but not letting them have a normal life outside. I think all the children will be trying to move in with sweet Aunt Jody someday.

Can't be that idiotic if you're talking about the ad. That's the goal of a spokesperson.

Also, how do you know where they shop? I've seen them, on the show, shopping in BR Outlet, which is not expensive. Even Banana Republic isn't that expensive. It's more than Target, but it's also better quality.

If the 'tups hadn't been born, I highly doubt they'd be in the "poor house." As someone pointed out, nurses are paid well. They'd also have six less mouths to feed, bodies to clothe, etc., etc.

Do you just feel the way Kate speaks doesn't convey gratitude? I always hear her saying "We are so grateful...," "We are so thankful...," etc. when referring to the many perks they receive as a result of the show.

I agree with you 100%.

I wonder who they see, if anyone, at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

the way she speaks, her body language .. there have been episodes where her body language speaks volumes, especially the cupcake decorating show. I've always thought that she is a disrespectful person. I don't know if I've ever shared that here, but I do. I just don't think she treats Jon or her children (or anyone, really) with much respect at all.

There was a turning point for me, where Kate is concerned. The episode where Kate had the tummy tuck. For me, it was more than a physical transformation .. she was not the same person at the end of that show as she was in the beginning.

I know that Kate says she's thankful, but I feel like it's all for show. Occasionally, I'll get a glimpse of genuine gratitude, but it isn't very often.

Not interested in watching the kids walking around the woods with sticks tonight, but did read an interesting report by someone who went to Jon's speaking engagement at Penn State.

-They got two german shepherd puppies, brother and sister named Nala and ... I forgot.

-He and Cara snowboard on Tues. and Thurs.? Didn't get that.

-Kate has "a lot of spa days". Didn't get that either.

-They have a Vietnamese babysitter who won't be part of the show. She is there every day for at least part of the day. They went through 15 sitters, but she is working out very well.

-Jon's mom does live near them (I'd heard otherwise).

-They will be traveling to Korea.

-He and Kate are now producing the show.

-He is the stay at home parent, but he hasn't been at the new house enough to enjoy it. Huh?

-He had VIP seats at the Superbowl but went to a church fundraiser instead that was raising money for wells in Africa.

The person who saw him said he looked really good, was pretty funny, and the college kids really liked him. Interesting how they are doing separate appearances; good for the kids if one parent is in fact home with them. Enjoy the show if you watch tonight.

My feelings about the ads **I did not see the one that you are talking about** are that the person that we are seeing is usually not the one writing the ad. I suspect that Kate's "tips" are written for her by the ad agency. But I agree, it gets people talking.

As far as the Banana Republic shopping goes, they went there once that we saw. Nobody knows if that is where they do their shopping regularly. And even if it is, it's nobodys business. If I got paid more for what I do, you could bet that I would be shopping in more places than I do now.

The only "bad" vibe I get from Kate is when she constantly says, "They wanted to meet us..." or "They really wanted us there..." I think it's just a poor choice of words on her part, but it almost makes it seem like she's not interested in meeting/seeing other people, but everyone wants to see her and her family.

They had me fooled! I was positive that the lab puppy in the commercials had to be theirs. German Shepherds huh? Maybe Kate wanted dogs to protect the compound. :thumbsup2

Ok I had a minute tonight and was looking at this on you tube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_f_CrtAvlE

(that's only the first part)

I would LOVE to see another show like this. As soon as I started watching it, I immediately thought how much I liked *this* show as opposed to the current show where Kate's yelling all the time and constantly fighting about something. I love to hear how many coupons she uses (have to say I was shocked since I can sometimes save more than her!).

Really had nothing to do with anything - other than to say this is what I'd love to see the show go back to. How do they schedule their day? How do they get their shopping done? I know it's not the same at it used to be and they probably don't even shop themselves anymore....it was interesting though to me.

Also, interesting things heard from Jon's speaking engagement. Some of the things are a bit odd but that's almost expected at them by this point. And 15 sitters??? I guess I'd think that number would be higher with all the family members they've managed to tick off....:rolleyes1 (not saying I'm perfect by any means!)

They did go back to those every day-type shows...and everyone complained about how boring they were. :rotfl:

How do you know they've ticked off "all the family members." We've heard one family member's account, and I'm not even sure what that was all about, especially once the PennMama Drama reared it's ugly (and "I told ya so") head.
