For now I'll just say that the new multi-birth mom has me feeling icky.

Me too.. (or Me Dos as my silly teens would say ;) )

no judgements on the $2 million she reportedly asked Oprah for?

no judgements on the fact that she no way to support a family .. has 6 children and undergoes a fertility treatment to become pregnant again?

mmmkay ..

Yeah......what you said...

And to top it off (totally politically incorrect here and in the vast majority of cases I think it's fine) she decided to have a boatload of kids while single. She had more kids than most two parent families can handle. She almost caught up with the duggers; only they are all the same age so she can't even pair them off. One person isn't enough for that many babies. Even daycare regulations want one person for every 4 infants. This is seriously nuts.

I typed and retyped my answer about 10 times .. I'd put in that she's single, she doesn't have a husband, she isn't married, etc. then I'd take it out .. I couldn't figure out a way to make it not sound like a person "needs" a man to have a family (other than the obvious ;) ), suggesting that a woman can't do it all alone .. and I finally gave up. :upsidedow

in the snippet of interview I saw, she doesn't even mention having people in place to help? Maybe there will be more of that in the full interview...

Dr. Phil ...

Octuplet Debate
For most single mothers, one child is enough of a handful, but when a 33-year-old woman in Southern California gave birth to eight premature babies -- in addition to the six children under the age of 8 she already has -- the country started talking! The mother of 14, Nadya, is keeping a low profile, but it is reported that all her children were created through in-vitro fertilization, an expensive and purposeful process. Questions are cropping up: How did she end up with eight embryos? How will she care for all of them? Who will pay these children's expenses over the years? How do we take the children's well-being into account in reproductive medicine? Dr. Phil and his panel of esteemed guests, including pediatrician Dr. Jim Sears co-host of The Doctors, debate the ethical and practical questions that have been raised. Dr. Phil will also speak with Kate Gosselin, mother of eight and star of TLC's Jon and Kate Plus 8, about the challenges of raising eight children.

I've seen some previews of her Ann Curry interview. This woman is delusional. She thinks she will be able to support 14 children on her own once she graduates???? Of course, she also says she is giving herself to her children, that she will spend xxx amount of time with them. Seriously, what is she studying because I guess I should have gone that route. What job, aside from JK's, allows you to support 14 kids but give them all your time. And you don't have to "finish your schooling" to do that job.

Ya it's a tough topic. I think often women can do it on their own, but I don't even think this is a gender or woman's rights issue. It's a math issue. Diapers alone for my baby cost about $600 a year. She's got $5000 a year to pay in diapers alone...and that's assuming all of the other six are out of diapers. Then daycare is going to be astronomical; that could easily reach 100k a year. Then there is feeding them, housing them, transporting them etc. It's insane. She'd have to make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year before tax to pull this off; as a single income earner...and considering she's been on welfare I don't think it's going to happen. So it's pretty obvious that everyone else is going to have to pay for these kids.

As for TLC picking her up I'm not sure they will. All the other families, whether you like them or not, have some sort of loving feeling about them and all of them were relying on themselves when those shows came along. Yes they might make money from them now, but it doesn't seem like it was their initial plan when they got pregnant. Im sure there are families that can relate to them Who is going to relate to the nutjob that skirted medical ethics rules and now has no way to pay for all these children? I seriously hope they don't pick them up, it sends the completely wrong message.

Even finances aside...JK talk about not feeling like each kiddo gets enough mommy and/or daddy time. How is one parent going to do that with almost twice as many kids?

Exactly. You can't quantify it with math but it's an even bigger issue. I can't imagine having a family as big as JK or that went into the teens for numbers...At least with the Duggars the kids aren't all infants so they don't all have the time needs of a newborn and will at least have different needs at any given time; and their adult to parent ratio is way way better...not to mention their are older siblings to help out. Whatever fertility doctor she went to should lose their license. There is no way this should have ever happened and it's a complete disaster.

I'm not sure of the exact wording, but they've been approached about doing a show featuring the family, and will have to see how family-friendly (or something similar) they are.

TLC President Eileen O'Neill said production companies that work with TLC have already made offers to Suleman's family, but the network is waiting to see how TV-friendly the family is.
"We're certainly like the rest of America; we're waiting to see how this develops," O'Neill said. "The number of children or scale of the multiples is intriguing, but it also comes down to what are the family's lives like?"

who is going to take care of these children while she's finishing school?

I was struck by how totally calm this woman was when giving her answers. She had answers for questions, was not flustered or emotional ... and she's a little more than a week post-partum? Good LORD, I was a hormonal mess at that point. :rotfl2: She just sat there, so even keeled .. wow.

it all defies logic. it really does.

Does anyone know if there is a website with Kate's book signing appearances? I have been searching online and can't seem to find anything.

Better yet...does anyone know if Kate is doing any book signings in CT?

you might check the Zondervan (book publisher) website?

watching the moving episode ..

why does Kate think it's ok to throw trash around in the old house? and then complain about a mess in the new house basement?! Good LORD.

My husband tells me I might react the same way as Kate over coupons.:upsidedow He was verrry careful when he told me .. I think he was scared :lmao:

I think the camera man, or the producer was being sarcastic and told Kate, "there is water on the floor". Kate was in her groove, packing and sealing boxes and it just stopped her in her tracks. She found paper towls, step on them to obsorb the water and kicked the paper towels to the side. I'm betting as soon as the camera was off her, she went back and threw it away.

I wonder really how much she packed. Jon said she was "gone again" and she also said everyone went by their friends house for the day. The next thing you saw was Kate, standing in the door way, telling the moving people which room the boxes went. Usually moving companies will pack your things for you.

Did you see Kate put that comforter in a suitcase? That did not make any sense.

I'm watching as well & that has been one of my many questions this episode.
Just kicking garbage around a house?

Also I'm just amazed that she continues to treat John like a child...that man must walk around with valium in his pocket! That voice!!!!!
I guess he knows that she gave birth to his meal ticket that he better just keep his mouth shut:confused3

The comment at the end of the moving show floored me......"the kids deserve this new house", when I think of all the families that are loosing their houses everyday it makes me sick!

Doesn't it seem strange Kate is doing these interviews on different Venue's without Jon. Plus she has the kids. Either camera crews are coming to her home, or she hired a bunch of people to help her.

Speaking of the coupon incident did you see Joel Mchale on the Soup this weekend-it has this scene and it was hilarious!

there were a couple of sarcastic/inside joke comments between Kate and the crew. I couldn't tell if the camera guy's comment was intended that way or not. But she threw that tape down the steps, talking about how she loved to move and not clean up after herself. Seemed like a random thing to say. LOL.

I thought the same thing about the packing and move. I wasn't paying a whole lot of attention, but it almost sounded like the boxes she was taping were empty .. and they just wanted it to look like she had a part in what was going on. Same thing with Jon putting the bed together. I honestly figured they'd have people doing that stuff for them.

I posted the SAME thing upthread -- I think it's really strange. Kate alone, and Kate alone with the kids. Jon must be snowboarding in Utah and can't be reached for comment :rotfl2:

Kate's interview on LKL was filmed in Chicago. GWoP tracks where Kate is 24/7  but I did read she hasn't been home much lately. I wonder if the interviews with the kids were all in one day?? The one with Access Hollywood, the kids were in rare form. Especially and mostly Mady.

edited to add: According to GWoP, Kate has been on the following travel schedule:

January 29: Philadelphia
January 30 - Feb 1: Barrington, Illinois
February 3: Oak Brook, Illinois

next week she is in NYC for a book signing. That's as far as I got before I had to quit reading. LOL

My husband realized NASCAR is back on, so I missed the last 5 minutes of the episode.

Those kids have certainly worked hard enough, they do deserve something.
