What? No comments about yesterday's episode?

I thought it was a good episode. That resort that they stayed at was really beautiful! Though I think my favorite part was at the end with Alexis and the alligator. She is soooo cute! The SeaLife exhibit at Legoland looked pretty cool. I loved when the kids were saying "Nemo! Nemo!" at the clownfish. So cute! I felt bad for Collin when he fell and bumped his head. Also felt bad for Cara when she was trying to explain why she couldn't ride backwards in the boat. My sister also gets sick if she rides facing backwards, so I understood what she was trying to say, but it seemed like Jon wasn't getting it.

Overall I liked it. Looking forward to the next two episodes.

Ohhh I loved it too! I agree about the resort. I want to go there now. hehe

Alexis is just adorable. Well, they all are but I love Alexis!

LOL..... I'm under the impression that it is only Kate's family they are estranged from. That his mom and grandmother are a part of their lives but have no desire to be a part of the show. He has said that his mother works full time so she doesn't spend a lot of time with the kids. His grandmother was briefly shown for the sextuplets 3rd birthday and they have mentioned a few times that she cooks traditional Korean food for them.

Yes, I had the same impression as you...I think it's nice they will get to see Jon's relatives and kind of learn a little bit about their Hawaiian roots (where Jon's grandparents are from).

haven't seen it yet (have been out of town for a few days) - but I'll try and catch it tonight & report back ;)

Seahunt--I eventually got the website to work. I must've been having a weird moment. I SO want to take DS there next summer..it looks like a lot of fun!:thumbsup2 Especially because there won't be any rides he can't do because he's not tall enough.

Saw that last week. Guess "they" were wrong when "they" said the Gosselins were estranged from all of their family.
I've always thought that they focused more on Kate's family issues. I know they mention both sides, but when Jon did the Korean cooking episode, he mentioned how the kids see someone on his side of the family. I always felt like they weren't on speed dial, but had at least a limited connection with Jon's side.

PS. if you were cynical about the whole Gosselin thing ... you'd say that the family visit is more damage control. :rolleyes1

I should have read ahead! LOL!

Finally watched it...and I thought it was cute!!

I just love Alexis, she is too cute for words!!

I can see both sides. I enjoy seeing the kids out and about...for so much of the show, they really couldn't take them all out at once. Now that they are older, it is fun to see them go out and do fun things as a family. I agree I do miss the home shows too. I wish they would take more of a balanced approach.

question about this week's new episode:

which is it? (or how does this work?)

Paradise Point, the resort in California, invited Jon & Kate to stay there. So which was it ... they were invited to this resort and then decided to have a time change break? Or they decided to have the time change break and a resort just happened to invite them to stay there?

I'll have to think about Kate's comment about how God builds in punishments, sometimes, too. You didn't obey the family helper and you fall and hit your head ... that's God's way of punishing someone? Hmmm....

One other thing (not taking notes, just asking things as they come along ... LOL) I'm noticing. Jon made Cara ride in the back of the boat with one of the little kids, so they wouldn't jump out. Yet, when Kate got in the boat? She sat in the front and the 2 kids were in the back. I can totally, 100% sympathie with Cara and the motion sickness deal. It's awful to have, no matter how mild or severe. :sad1:

The episode is almost over. Aside from the couple of (minor) gripes, it was fine. Kind of boring. The kids are really developing adorable personalities!

ITA! My DD and I LOVED this episode. The kids were adorable and Jon and Kate seemed to be really enjoying themselves.

And, I disagree madge, we didn't find this episode boring at all. Frankly, it's the first time in a couple of weeks that it held our interest and felt the hour flew by!

I see Kates point with the comment, you make a bad decision, sometimes you get a bad result.

So are you rolling eyes at Kate or Jon LOL? I figure the GWOP crowd are tearing Kate apart about it.
IMHO Jon made too big of an issue of Cara riding in back but it worked out in the end, she was able to turn around and face the front. In a way I was surprised to see Kate riding up front but then again I think having 2 adults paddling in that current was the right thing to do.

As for the resort, who knows. Maybe there was an open ended offer and they decided to do the San Dieago trip in conjunction with the Hawaii trip. Maybe they mentioned wanting a layover and someone from TLC/figure 8 contacted resorted looking for one interested in offering a free trip in exchange for free advertising. Maybe the resort is owned by the same parent company as the Hawaii resort and they were offered 2 weeks anywhere they wanted to go and they picked a week at each one. Only the Gosselins, the resort and those involved with the show know for certain.

it got better, I'll admit (I still had 20 minutes to go when I was replying). But there's repetition in there - which is how it's edited. No fault of Jon or Kate. Its like they had too much for 30 minutes, but not quite enough for an hour show.. if that makes sense.

I see the point, and understand the basis of the comment. I'm conflicted with equating God and punishing a child for disobeying the family helper. It's obviously something Jon & Kate agree with in their family discipline and I really don't want this to sound like my normal JK8 whining. LOL. I don't know anything at all about their faith tradition, and am in no way, shape, or form in a position to comment on their beliefs and how they incorporate that into their family life. I seriously want to think about the comment.

I'm rolling my eyes at both of them, I guess. LOL.

I've just seen the show - I try to hold off reading both of the pity blogs until I watch the show and post here. I don't like to taint my thoughts. :lmao:

I agree with all that

Just as it's been from the beginning .... LOL

I totally agreed about the punishment thing. I would equate the comment to karma. I'm always saying "Seeeee, you should have listened," when DS bonks his head or something when he was being defiant.

I've never done a paddle boat. Is the back big enough for a grown-up?

I noticed they said (well, they only said it once, but it was repeated in editing) they were going to Hawaii but stopping in San Diego, like, four times. I see what Madge was saying about repitition, for sure. Haha!! Haha!! Haha!! (OK, that was cheesy)

I get what you are saying...it all depends on ones view of "God" and IMHO the "God will get you" attitude can be used as a copout. Not saying they use it as one (or not). Growing up in an area where "it is God's punishment" is often used, it does make my skin crawl. I actually had a nurse in the hospital tell me that my miscarriage was God punishing me for having premarital sex.

oh, I do the same with my kids... and I guess that might be what is making me think carefully about what Kate said. I can say that to my kids - see, that's what happens when you don't listen and take it from there. But to say that God builds in the punishment seems somehow different. With small kids, they need to know that God is love. And I know that Jon & Kate teach their kids that concept. That's obvious. Anyway, like I said, I'm in no position to comment on Jon & Kate belief structure and how it applies to their family life.

the one my BIL has is certainly large enough for an adult. I don't ride in the back, though, because it makes me queasy. LOL.

:lmao: I'm glad I wasn't the only one that noticed. LOL.

I think this goes back to my other point...we all like to take vacations, but for us it would be a family of five. Jon and Kate's Utah trip was airfare for ten family members, plus Beth and her daughter that came to help, plus a huge house, plus ski outfits for eight kids, ski rentals for eight kids...because of their family size it would be much more expensive for them to do anything that the rest of us can do, kwim?
I mean, single day admission to Sesame Place is $47-times ten people plus the helper Jenny-over $500 in admissions!
My understanding is the ski trip and Sesame Place didn't cost them anything because of the show. If not for the show, they probably wouldn't be doing these things just from an economical standpoint. :)

Right, I understand that, and actually I think if not all, almost all of those trips were paid for by the show. I'm sure they wouldn't be able to do it otherwise.

I love the kids and I think they're adorable, but I was bored silly. I feel like all of the episodes are blending into each other. Oh, there's Jenny sleeping in the same room with one of the kids again... there's another visit to an amusement park... there's another plane trip... more packing...

I honestly prefer watching them do day to day things at home. I loved when Jon taught the kids to ride a two-wheeler. I suppose that would bore people too though. I am really starting to feel like this show has run its course.

Jon made Cara ride in the back of the boat with one of the little kids, so they wouldn't jump out. Yet, when Kate got in the boat? She sat in the front and the 2 kids were in the back

If you watch the two little kids are both seated next to Jon in the FRONT of the boat and Cara was in the back on her knee's facing forward. It also didn't even seem like Kate knew that Jon want Cara in the back with one of the kids until the interview.

The whole Cara in the back thing...

OK, this may just be me and my military family/old-fashioned upbringing, but if a grown-up tells you to do something (within reason, of course)...you do it. Whether or not there's a reason to do it, you just do it. It drives me crazy when I call kids and they yell "What?" Come to me, and you'll find out! Or "Why?" when they're asked to do this or that. Just do it. Now, I was spoiled as a kid. Possibly spoiled rotten. And, yeah, occasionally I got the whiny attitude with my mom (dad had passed away), but when my grampa told me to do something, you better believe I did it in record time.

ETA: I also remember my school having a rule that read something like: Students must comply with all reasonable requests.

Sign of the times, I guess. And, I'm not "old," either!! I must have an old soul. I was the only 5th grader with Frank Sinatra in my walkman. Yes, walkman.
