Kate Gosselin on the Bonnie Hunt show:

a little more than 2 minutes into the interview, Kate says the kids don't eat/like fast food. Huh? Since when? All those chicken fingers at the baseball game? the hot dogs at Sesame Place? I know I've seen McDonald's cups at least 2 different times in their house (once in the kids' room) and am I supposed to believe they didn't eat one counter service meal at WDW?

I think that's just another way for her to act like she's "holier than thou".

They had McDonald's Happy Meals in the ski episode.

that's what I thought! He let the kids have whatever they wanted at the ballgame, same with the ski episode (Happy Meals), etc.

Seriously ... if you're going to make broad statements about not letting your kids do something, at least pick something isn't on TV for all the world to see. :happytv:

This is speculation by me but I think Kate is going to become a spokesperson for an organic food company. I already saw her in one of the Sunday coupon inserts giving healthy school lunch ideas. So she is trying to put herself out there as a healthy food mom (which she does seem to be, although the kids do have junk food once in a while!)
I really think that since their life is their "job" J & K are kind of looking ahead to set up future opportunities for themselves if/when the show ends. I think Kate is attractive and pretty relatable (for those who don't follow/believe the hate blogs, lol) so maybe they are looking in that direction.
Like Juicy Juice pays for product placement, but do J & K get that money, or does it go to the production company? Maybe J & K want to do more endorsements directly, that kind of thing...
Just my thoughts...:)

I just watched the clip. Kate didn't really make a broad statement, Bonnie asked her a broad question, Kate did answer it "broadly" then explained.

Interesting speculation allison443..... My thoughts are mre along the lines of her having a little segment on a morning show, Rachel Ray or something like that.

I have loved this show for about two years now. But for the very first time, I'm getting turned off by their apparent greed. It really showed to me, during the ball game last week, when Jon went into that gift shop and was allowed to buy anything he wanted. And buying all that food, can you imagine if he had to foot that bill that night? And now this trip, it goes beyond envy. Its more of a "how much can we get out of them" mentality now. And its really starting to bother me. I know they say they appreciated everything they were given before, but now its going over the top.

Does anyone else have this recent change of mind, having loved the show but in the last couple of weeks have this lightbulb moment about it? I'll still watch it, but enough with all the freebies because none of us can relate to it.

she answered it broadly? come on ... she lied. plain and simple. we've all seen those kids eat (and enjoy!) fast food. to suggest otherwise is untrue.

now, I suppose she could claim she was speaking of 2 specific incidences early on in their lives where they ate fast food and handed it back. But those kids have been seen, as part of the show, eating fast food. I know it's a sit-down restaurant, but what about the episode where they take one of the girls to Red Robin? I didn't see them eating grilled chicken and steamed veggies. :rotfl:

Huh...buying stuff is greed? You think others are limited on what they are allowed to buy as souvenirs and food? I don't get what you are saying.

Allison - you may be onto something. Kate has been a spokesperson for a brown bag/organic lunch campaign, so it's possible there could be more of that in the future. Kate mentions the word organic as often as she can (it seems), I could definitely see that as a good fit for her.

I do disagree about Kate being relatable. As a mom, I can't really relate to her - she's someone with 8 kids and a life very different than my own. And the hair, IMO, is getting worse. It's too long in the front or something .. very distracting. It looked better to me when it wasn't quite as long. (believe it or not, the hair is one thing I've liked about Kate in the past. I think it's a cute cut on her)

Product placement? Not sure, but I'd think JK8 gets all the Juicy Juice they can drink. Since it isn't a commercial, I'm not sure money exchanges hands. But that is just pure speculation on my part.

Buying all that food?? He went to the ball game with 4 kids and he fed them all. I don't see where that is going overboard? :confused3

A hotel in Hawaii contacted THEM and offered them a trip...sorry, I wouldn't say no to that if it were me! They are celebrities now and celebrities get perks, it's a fact of life. It doesn't bother me a bit.

The hair is very distracting. My DH who doesn't notice anything even noticed it. The front is too long or the back is too short.

I have also heard her speak many times about K-Mart layaway, so I assume she is a spokesperson for them also. I think they are thinking ahead. At least them being spokespeople doesn't involve the children working.

I think the pp was saying that those were huge meals. If you look at the plates that they get at home it is about half that amount of food and 4 year olds don't require an adult size portion. So, he could have gotten one meal for two kids especially since they all ate the same thing. But since he wasn't paying for it, he didn't.

Also, the gift shop scene was just embarrassing. It was like he was on a mission to get as much stuff as he could.

The Hawaii thing is just one more thing. This is why the show is becoming so unrelateable. How many people can afford 4 big vacations in the span of one year. This isn't reality tv anymore.

I stated it wrong. He didn't buy a thing that night. He was given it, by TLC. Thats what has been bothering me. Nothing about that is relatable to any of us. And its starting to go overboard for me. Thats all. It just hit me that he or Kate are not earning any of it, they're just taking, taking, taking.

everything they're getting comes as a perk to being on the show. the episodes now seem to be based on destinations and adventures, instead of everyday life with 2 sets of multiples. Some find the new direction more appealing, and others find it less appealing. I'm in the less - I prefer the shows that focused on coupon shopping, playing in the basement, etc.

Because of the direction the show is going, I think some people will find, as you have, that they relate less to the Gosselins. Not every family takes a trip to Hawaii, the Outer Banks, San Diego, Sesame Place, a Phillies game, NYC, etc. in a 9-month period. Especially in this economy.

Maybe the food and souvenirs were comped, maybe not...who knows?

ITA about Kates hair, I really do not like it so long in front and short and spikey in the back. I really liked how it looked way back in the special when she got it cut and colored after the tummy tuck.

I think that it's safe to assume that they probably were - if not for the reason that it was the feature of the episode, than because it was so obvious that the woman they were with (who is important in the Phillies management, help me out on who she is??) is SUCH a big fan of the show, and wanted them there... she did give them the personalized jerseys to wear. I think they got red carpet treatment. I'd say at the very least, the food was gratis. But you're right, Jon may have decided to splurge on the souvenirs at the shop/booth.

I liked it then, too.

I liked Kate's hair in the Disney episode.

I think the lady at the game was the Phillies manager's wife.

you might be right - I just remembered not knowing then, someone here knowing, and it being someone important to the Phillies. I don't follow baseball. LOL.

there's an interesting JK8 thread on the budget board. not Kate friendly.
