Joining DVC Soon

My wife and I have a 16 month old and one more on the way. We are in the process of discussing DVC. We are considering buying through Disney at Saratoga Springs. Am I reading too much into this but it seems like all your doing is pre-paying vacations for the next 47 years since you really don't own anything.

Additionally, does anyone know how we may qualify for discounts in buying at Saratoga Springs? Thank you all and I am so glad to see so many people love Disney as my wife and I do

In a nut shell, you are correct. You are basically leasing for 47 years. Now, is that a bad thing? Not if you love Disney and plan to travel at least every other year. The savings over the life of the contract are tremendous. Besides, I don't want to own an old building in 47 years (assuming I am still around ), nor do I want my kids saddled with a lifetime of maintenance fees.

Yep, you've got that part of the equation correct. Remember that the cost of accomodations is going to go up and up and up. So, buying in at a set price insulates you from some part of those increases and the bonus is that in most every case you will be staying in nicer accomodations than you would at the other onsite (non DVC) resorts.
