I got an email from Disney Online, that says for a limited time, join DVC and get a free vacation! We just became DVC members and missed out on this offer. Does anyone know anything more about it?
DVC is great, don't get me wrong, but the free vacation is in lieu of getting any points to use immediately. Since they have no SSR points for sale that can be used soon, they are replacing the SSR points with a corresponding number of points that can be used at another property. Let's see, I givethem almost $15,000 for SSR points that I can't use until 4/05 and they call it a free vacation, ha!
Yes it is true you cannot use the points until 3/05, but you also don't have to start paying for them until June 2005. The free vacation can be used now or you may choose to take $2000 off the purchase price
Chances are the current promotions are virtually identical to what you would have received.
The only points DVC has to sell now are in buildings that do not open until 2005. New members who aren't going to travel until 2005 can elect to take a flat $10 per point credit, bringing their net cost down to $85 per point.
The other alternative is the "free vacation." Since you cannot stay at SSR until 2005, DVC is throwing in some "Developer's Points" which are points that DVC itself owns. These Developer's Points basically become your 2004 points, and they represent the "free vacation." People taking this offer pay the full $95 per point.
Unless I miss my guess, when you bought you were probably offered two options: Pay $95 per point and receive your first set of points in 2004, or pay $85 per point and forfeit your 2004 points.
Price-wise, the current and older promotions are almost identical.
