Hey guys after listening to your Canadian cruise review I was kinda sad you didn't like Tim Hortons. I'm from Niagara Falls NY and Timmy Ho's, as they're sometimes referred to has invaded Western NY in the past several years. To be honest I really didn't embrace Tim's because of my love of Dunkin Donuts but once you start on Tim's coffee you get hooked. Die hard Tim fans passionately refer to their coffee as liquid crack. The rumor that goes around is Tim Hortons use special coffee beans that are more addictive. I am an American but during you segment I was picturing angry Canadians yelling at their computers and iPods cursing at you. As much as I do love Tim's coffee I will have to admit their baked goods are not as good as Dunkin so be glad you skipped the donuts. They do have good soup and sandwiches as well as frozen drinks called Ice Capps aka iced cappichino , think coffee slushie. So if you ever venture back to the great north (or the Buffalo/Niagara area and visit me) give Timmy Ho's another try, it will be my treat :)

I think it's all what you're used to. I find Tim's fairly close to Dunkin Donuts which is great because I have to be desperate for caffeine to drink Starbucks, where other people live for it.

And since Tim Horton's decided to make all their baked goods in a central location and just send them out to the stores to be "baked" I do find their quality has gone down hill a bit.

Horror story for you...the Tim's in our mall had a new employee last week that a customer actually caught pouring an old pot of coffee back into the machine, rather then fresh water! Ack! Just goes to show that a business, no matter how good their reputation, is only as good as their employees!

I use to work at Tim Hortons while in college in western New York. Its not that bad. I do have to admit that I like Dunkin' Donuts better.

I enjoyed my first Tim Horton coffee and donuts. It reminds me of Dunkin Donuts and that is a good thing:)

Used to drink Timmies all the time since they were next door to our office. But then they got demolished to put up a condo and then I got stuck on Starbucks while I waited for them to rebuild somewhere else. I'm such a bad Canadian for drinking Starbucks instead of Timmies. I always thought the Timmie's coffee was addictive because of the cream they used ... I think it's got more fat in it that usual creamers. I do miss the chili and I miss the doughnuts. I love their doughnuts.

One thing I love though ... their iced capps.... Ohhhhhhh.... one medium sized iced capp (and a Dis Unplugged podcast) will keep me happy and awake while driving from Toronto to Ottawa. :thumbsup2

I also listened to the podcast and laughed a little when they discussed Tim Horton's. When they first came to Western New York I tried it and drank it all the time...but then I agve it up in an effort to cut out excess spending. (why pay for something I could make at home for considerably less) Now I can't even drink their coffee. I just no longer like the taste. It saves me money!!!

Because of the DIs, I bought a Keurig. Ironically, Timmies is now putting out their coffee in Tassimo format ... not Keurig. Oh well.

I love Timmies when I get to Canada or in some parts of NY. I usually try to hit one during the hockey season...LOL!!!

We are coming very close to getting a Keurig. My DH does NOT like the Keurig coffee (he's a NYC Fairway snob), but I've almost convinced him that I am in desperate need of one.

I rarely buy k cups anymore. I don't particularly care for it and it is pricey. I am quite satisfied with putting the grounds in the "my k-Cup" reusable filter (see photo below). I'm sitting here drinking a 20 ounce cup of black coffee (Starbucks French Roast) and while it isn't as strong as what I get from Starbucks, it is actually quite good.

A friend of mine got me hooked on Fairway's cinnamon coffee. I use an Ekobrew cup to make it in my Keurig.

A lot of online reviews say that the Ekobrew cups are better than Keurig's My K-Cup. The other nice thing is that you don't have to remove the brewing assembly to use the Ekobrew, it just pops right in like a traditional K-cup will.

As far as Tim Hortons goes, I'm not a fan of their coffee, but they brew a decent cup of tea. Also, I like their baked goods way better than Dunkin's. Give me a ham & cheese tea biscuit or a cranberry blueberry bran muffin any day!

Yuck to Tim Hortons! I had one right across from me in college at Ohio State. I would make the extra trip down to get coffee at Brennan's instead.

We aren't Keurig fans, either. Unless you have the filter PP mentioned, those K cups are not cheap. We have a Cuisinart Grind-n-brew that grinds the beans immediately before it brews it. DH drinks Manatee coffee, which we get at our local Costco. It's low in acid, so it helps lessen the acid reflux that coffee can cause. http://www.manateecoffee.com/ The Caribbean delight is good. He likes Starbucks, but can't brew it at home because after about 5 days, gets reflux from it. I'm more of a Dunkin Donuts coffee fan :)

Kathy, was that in Nova Scotia? That's where I first encountered Tim Horton's over 15 years ago! :thumbsup2 It always reminds me of that trip.

Tim Horton's has been here in Columbus for ages, since Wendy's International (based in Columbus) bought them in 1995. I've always liked their coffee, and they used to make killer biscuits. Their Timbits (donut holes) are wonderful! (While I absolutely love Dunkin' Donut's coffee, their donuts are too sweet for me.)

Sayhello

Jack....my sister bought one of these for her Keurig, she likes it, but she said they always get some grounds in the coffee, does that happen to you? Know of anything to prevent grounds?

As for Tim Horton's......Ick. I've been to a few, I didn't like the coffee at all. I thought it was weak and the baked goods were meh. I didn't even think of comparing them to Dunkin' Donuts. DD is much better IMHO.

We use these all the time and I find if you over fill it you will get grounds in your cup. Tell her to leave about a 1/4 or 1/3 of space from the top and sometimes if there's grounds on the rubber stopper it would seal completely and you'll get grounds then too.

Living in Ottawa, Tim Horton's is pretty much our only coffee option around here! We don't have Dunkin Donuts and while we do have Starbucks they are sparse whereas Timmy's is on practically every street corner! I do like their frozen drinks (iced capps, yum) but when it comes to coffee we prefer the coffee they have at the McCafes. And I like all of their baked goods except for the donuts. I miss Dunkin Donuts because their donuts were always so good!

lol, Kathy is the smart podcaster. With these 2 lines you have won over the hearts and minds of 95% of Canadian coffee drinkers.

:lmao::lmao:

I love Tim's, although I do think that they and Dunkin are very similar - it is just what you get used to. I am not a Starbucks fan at all.

I am very pleased that so far DD and specifically their Coffee Cake muffins have stayed south of the border :rolleyes1 my waistline suffers with each visit.

I laughed so hard that you were told you had to have a tim hortons coffee. Knowing how you guys like your coffee and good at that.

Timmy's coffee is not gormet coffee, that is for sure, but it is at almost every corner.

I think I drink it more because is it readily available, it's hot and it's not isn't that much for a cup of coffee.

Ewww Timmys. They've been expanding in Montreal in the past few years, opening many stores in the downtown core are and I must say their 'coffee' is really not my ...cup of tea! I like my coffee strong and complex and the Timmy's is just too sweet for me.
