Did I just see this on CNN? Just passing by the TV and thought it said they were separating. Good for her if it's true - she needs to get away from him. It can't be healthy to stay with such a toxic person.

I think for a while (and this is totally my opinion) that given her health situation, it didn't make sense to put the kids through a divorce since her condition is almost certainly terminal. But if she's been given a longer prognoses, then given the recent revelations I can see how she would have enough and kick him to the curb. If they can keep the divorce civil, it most likely wouldn't have too great an impact on the kids, and depending on their current dynamic, may even improve things once everything is final.

I had been thinking, she needed to remain married to him to stay on his medical insurance plan. What kind of insurance plan do ex-senators get? I would think it would be hard for her to get new insurance with a pre-existing condition.

I'm glad she's getting rid of the scum, though.

They are the rare Americans who truly can afford to pay for their own healthcare, but I suspect they have private insurance since he was in law practice for a long time. Even so, he would also have/had access whatever former senators have and to North Carolina's good state insurance plan since he worked for the University of North Carolina after the senate.

As for a civil divorce, lawyer couples aren't known for having them.

Don't forget the girlfriend...he purchased a house for her near Charlotte (I mean the baby so he can be close to her). I have a feeling he's cheated before this one. I'm just waiting for more to come forward.

Given the cause of the pending divorce, I would think that Elizabeth Edwards would have paid health care insurance as part of her settlement (along with the shirt off his back)

I just can't get past his using her illness to provoke sympathy and to get votes while he was cheating on her. What a low life!

I just couldn't imagine staying married to a man under these circumstances, especially after what they went through personally (with the death of their child and her illness). Seeing that baby unfortunately would be a constant daily reminder of his infidelity and lies.

Elizabeth stated it well on the View this AM when she said John Edwards could never love anyone half as much as he loves himself.
