John and Elizabeth Edwards Separating?

I just couldn't imagine staying married to a man under these circumstances, especially after what they went through personally (with the death of their child and her illness). Seeing that baby unfortunately would be a constant daily reminder of his infidelity and lies.

Elizabeth stated it well on the View this AM when she said John Edwards could never love anyone half as much as he loves himself.

She is an heiress, so money is not the issue. Word out is that behind her motherly kind mask that she was demeaning to him and his family, calling them rednecks. BTAIM, I don't feel sorry for either one of them.

I had been thinking, she needed to remain married to him to stay on his medical insurance plan. What kind of insurance plan do ex-senators get? I would think it would be hard for her to get new insurance with a pre-existing condition.

I'm glad she's getting rid of the scum, though.

Ex-senators have EXCELLENT insurance. The best that WE can afford (we meaning taxpayers). Truthfully, if the Universal Healthcare passes we all need to make sure that our senators and representatives have the EXACT same plan. If it's good enough for us, then it's good enough for them.

As a NC resident, I lost all respect for him well before he entered politics when he led that tort suit where the little girl died after sitting on a pool drain. IIRC, the company that manufactured the drain cover was held liable to the tune of $25 MILLION DOLLARS, after:
1) some other kids at the pool took the drain cover off
2) the pool management didn't immediately replace it
3) her parents weren't paying attention
4) she sat on the drain

He is a worthless piece of scum. So glad that she is getting rid of him. I feel so horrible for the kids though. Your mother is dying and your father is a cheating liar. I can't imagine what they will think of him when they get a bit older and are able to look back on this from an adult perspective. Do, I give a flip? Nope, no more then I give a flip if Angelina and Brad are together or not. I don't know them so what ever they decide to do with their marriege does not affect me in any way. It's news though and like a lot of other news stories, I have an opinion on it and can feel free to express it here or anywhere for that matter. Not sure why we have to explain ourselves and our decision to talk about a news story to you.

I always wonder why people who ask why do people give a flip, or why is this so important, would then themselves waste 650 keystrokes & mouse clicks on a thread they consider so unimportant? Seems kind of contradictory actions. Plus, you spent a lot of energy, emotion & precision to explain an example of why you no longer respect Edwards. A lot of energy spent for someone who has to state why they don't give a flip.

I put him at the top of the scum list of recent political/celebrity cheaters. At least the others admitted what they did when they got caught. He continued to lie. He told Bob Woodruff in an interview when the affair story came out that there was no possible way the baby was his. Total lie. Did he seriously think it would never come out? This little girl would never know who her real father is?

For instance, the American people would probably have forgiven Richard Nixon for Watergate *if* there hadn't been that long and messy, extremely stoopid cover-up. What made a bad situation absolutely impossible were all the various lies of the ensuing cover-up. If Edwards had confessed and thrown himself on the mercy of the court (so to speak) the jury made up of the American public might have just forgiven him. If Tiger had come out right away and said he had a problem, his public image wouldn't be as tarnished as it is now.

Now whether Elizabeth would have forgiven Edwards or Elin would have forgiven Woods at that juncture is another matter ...

Well, to defend Mr. Edwards, he did not personally award that little girl's family 25 million from that manufacturer of the pool drain cover. It would have been a jury of your peers.

It was a horrific case. The cover had been removed at some point; when, no one is sure. However, when that little girl approached the uncovered outlet the suction was strong enough to pull her down and suck 80% of her small intestine and 50-70% of her large intestine out through her anus. Four adults could not free her until the pool's pumps had been turned off. She did survive, but will require medical treatment for the rest of her life. Edwards discovered that the manufacturer was aware of a dozen other small children that had suffered similar injuries (and even death) from the drains made by this manufacturer, but they did nothing to warn anyone (such as swimming pool owners who had that type of suction outlet). The manufacturer tried to settle prior to trial but Edwards refused. The jury found for the plaintiff and awarded 25 million in actual damages; the manufacturer then settled for the 25 million before punitive damages could be assessed (which could have tripled the amount). Mind, the manufacturer could have appealed the verdict (including any punitive damages), but they chose to go ahead and pay the 25 million. Obviously, they felt that their chances on appeal would not be very good, and so accepted the actual damage award.

As always, there are many more facts. For instance, Edwards also sued (and I believed settled) with the manufacturer of the actual pump that created the suction. I myself would have thought that they were more liable than the manufacturer of the cover. Nevertheless, the verdict certainly sent a wake-up call to manufacturers of such pool supplies and warned them to not hide knowledge they may have concerning hazardous products.

Oh Lord, please not a sex tape. I feel so sorry for those kids of his. I mean, the ones with Elizabeth will lose their mother, they lost a brother and now their moronic father will be known as Senator Sextape? How awful. The baby has the mom of the year who slept with the senator who had the dying wife. So that little girl is 0 for 2 in the parents department.

I wonder if his hair stayed perfect for the whole duration of this possible sex tape. I am betting old Johnny sprayed it down nice and firm for his time in front of that camera just like all the other camera time he has loved and enjoyed all these years.

I watched it too. I don't think much of the Youngs either. They willingly participated in this, flying all over the country hiding the pregnant mistress. They even included their small children in part of it. Now they act like they are victims. So now they are trying to cash in on their story since they are no longer getting payoffs from John Edwards.

I just feel bad for Elizabeth Edwards young children. They have a scumbag dad and a mom with terminal cancer. They are probably getting comments at school.
