Jodi Arias Trial Part 8 EXTREME CRUELTY: PROVEN

Hi All:
Just wanted to pop in to say thanks to all of you for your insight and commentary during the trial. I couldn't watch the live feeds, but would catch up on HLN at night while reading your responses on my laptop!

I was pretty sure it was going to end up a hung jury. I even voted for it on this thread! I come from a state which does not have the death penalty. For the most part I am not in favor of it, but might see it for extreme cases.

I have always thought that Jody has a serious mental illness. She actually reminds me very much of a cousin of mine. We were raised together as kids and she was pretty normal then. Her family had some major trauma when she was in her early teens and in my opinion she suffered serious neglect for several years. As a young adult, she was very narcissistic. She was (well, still is) the center of the world and everyone else are just actors in her play. Other people have no autonomy, just exist to do what she thinks they should do. She tells massive lies and truly believes them. She feels no remorse when confronted with her lies or the fact that she has hurt people. Anyway......reminds me a LOT of Jodi. In the case of my cousin, I cut her out of my life years ago for my own sanity. I do hear about her from other relatives, however, and she has not changed over the years. And....clearly I have some unresolved issues regarding her.

Given that I believe Jody probably suffers from mental illness, it would be very hard to vote for the death penalty for her. However, if I was on the jury for a person who shot three random people during a bank robbery and then killed a cop on the way out.....I think I could vote for the death penalty.

That aside, my heart breaks for the Alexander family. I don't see how they can go through this again. I think Juan Martinez did a great job. I think the Judge did the best she could. I think the Defense Team was in way over their heads and were just irritating. I also think a mental illness defense was obvious! I don't blame the jury at all. They served us well. In my opinion, the American justice system worked even with all its flaws.

AND congrats to Pigletgirl and her little family! I would love to see a pic!

We are in total agreement on all your statements.....but...I think I personally consider the crime heinous enough and JA not salvageable and think I could have voted for DP.

The jurors are now saying they are horrified that the judge called a mistrial. They said they did not know she would do that. Well shouldn't you have asked? Wait till they learn more and listen to Jodi!

YEs, but for how long? and where do they store it? I would think it would take up lots of room to save for years and years (if that is what they do). I understand WHY it should be saved.... but... still.

Hi Everyone- I was not able to post here the last few days since I worked so many hours and DISing is not allowed there (sheesh, you download one tiny little computer virus.... but I digress.) All I can say is that I am so terribly disappointed with the deadlock.. I am very concerned that they won't find 12 or 18 people that are not already decided, too knowledgeable about the case and are all DP qualified.

I said 2 or maybe it was 3 threads ago (more wasted bandwidth) that one of the talking heads thought that JA was focusing on one of the male jurors, #2 or a single digit number and he did make it to the deliberations. After watching the video of them loading onto the bus I am guessing that he is the one that was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans and seemed like her "type."

Did the foreman say who the 4 were that held out? I will be curious if any of them speak out AFTER watching her antics on the news interviews and the old interrogations etc.. I would be curious if any of them would switch their vote and vice versa for the others that wanted the DP.

I don't think the focus should be so much DEATH for her but more so the restrictions that come with being on death row that the family wants.. no contact within general population, no interviews, limited visitors and phone etc.. If they try to work out a plea agreement now, I don't think she will go for it since she probably feels like she can convince the next group even better now that she has had a dress rehearsal allocution (throw in some teaching elements, some Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, some feel good global causes, talk about helping cancer patients and you will reach someone on a personal level.)

And finally- "your daughter is awaiting a decision on whether she will be sentenced to death or life in prison.. where are you going Arias family" "WE'RE GOING TO THE GRAND CANYON" Pathetic on so many levels but at least they weren't in Disney..

Is it just me or does watching that video and reading the interview with the jury foreman seem like he is talking out of both sides of his mouth so to speak. In the video he says that they always remained respectful of each other's opinion and no one tried to influence another juror but in the written interview he says there were times when they reached boiling points and moments of contention????

So they have a life in their hands, but they were interviewed and asked if they could hand down DP. I am not saying they need to. But if you say you can and then you get emotional and can't do it then you lied in court.

So they have a life in their hands, but they were interviewed and asked if they could hand down DP. I am not saying they need to. But if you say you can and then you get emotional and can't do it then you lied in court.

Plus he talked about how when the verdict of guilty in the 1st was said he didn't want to look at her but he did and he will never forget the look on her face... So clearly he was making up for that by being a hold out on the DP.

It is because it seems as though the penalty aspect was taken into consideration when the other verdicts were deliberated, which from what I understand is not what they were supposed to do.. And now they are shocked that this lead to a mistrial for the penalty phase. What did they think, the judge would be the one to hand down a sentence?? Couldn't they have asked what would happen, oh wait they did ask that didn't they??

Duh, she already knew they didn't believe her claim of self defense because they found her guilty of 1st degree premeditated murder, in fact all of them voted GUILTY.

I think because that is what most people wanted, but they had a lot more information than the jurors did. Also, because they all voted premeditated, it seemed like that would be the next logical step if they believed she planned and carried out the murder.

For me personally, I was surprised they didn't come back with the DP because of the premeditation. But now, I get the they were asked if they could if the situation warranted it. Some believe it did, and others believed it didn't, for what ever crazy reason...lol j/k for their own personal reasons.

Oddly enough, there's a system put into place in case a jury can't agree on a penalty, the State can decide whether or not to pursue the case. If this next jury can't agree then the judge will hear argument from both counsels and decide LWOP or Life with a possibility of parole after 25 years. Maybe the next jury will know that.
