Jodi Arias Trial Part 8 EXTREME CRUELTY: PROVEN

Penalty phase...what will the jury decide? (1 day poll!)

  • Death

  • Life (judge will sentence within 60 days, LWOP or Parole in 25 years)

  • No unanimous decision...new penalty phase jury will be empaneled.

Results are only viewable after voting.
Make up something new. But Jodi's life still hangs in the balance. She still does not know what will happen. Hopefully Joe Arpio will stand by his words and no more interviews.

They reported on AZ central that Sheriff Joe said that ARias will be in 23 hour lockdown, and no more interviews. Good. She should be treated the same way she would be in Perry, no special rights should be given to her. She's CONVICTED of 1st degree premeditated murder.

Nancy Grace was explaining that if one could not make a decision and wanted out they could replace that juror.
But each juror DID make a decision. The problem was they couldn't agree to make the same decision.
I too, as much as I am sad for Travis's family, think this jury did a decent job. I'm just a little surprised that those who were going for the death penalty could not be talked down to life. I imagine that would be easier than trying to talk someone into the death penalty.

And in all honesty we are all thinking that the hold out was someone who could not vote for death..but what if the hold out was the other way? What if one person would not change their vote to life?
Exactly!
That said, I respect the jury and the fact that they did what they felt they had to do. Unlike the CA jury, they took their responsibility seriously and found her guilty of 1st degree murder.
:thumbsup2
I know people with BPD and I think they get a terrible rap. They are often confused with sociopaths, which I think is more Jodi's MO. A lot of folks with BPD couldn't and wouldn't hurt a fly.
I know the person who I know with BPD, and I know the emotional damage she's done; I suspect if her physical health was better, she could do worse. I didn't state that people with BPD go out and murder people, or flies.
And on a lighter note...

Look at how much more bandwidth we get to waste!! NBW 4ever!
;)

C'mon guys, it's going to end the way it is suppose to, it just going to take a while longer.
:thumbsup2 There ya go, looking on the bright side! ;) Speaking of which, Miss "the JA thread is a waste of bandwidth" is on the Bachelor thread, I think it was. MUCH better use of bandwidth.

Donovan Bering is on the phone with NG.

So HLN may have her retrial and George Zimmerman trial both going on?

Also will they be looking under rocks for possible people who have no opinion,?

Another sad time for the Alexander family. There lives have been shattered by the convicted murderer who sleeps in her dank cell this evening. I respect the jury's decision. I don't agree with it and had hoped that they could have re examined and discussed the Weight of the mitigating factors which I thought did not even exist.
It just may be that Jm will see If the family and he will consider a plea at this point to avoid another lengthy drawn out situation. I think that the Cm is actually in a worse place now ( tho I believe it should have been Death). What I mean is.. Where and who has Not seen her manipulations lies and the media blitz...who doesn't know this case??? People will want to be on that jury and be a part of history and that history will likely include Death with a rapid turnaround.
So despite the reprieve she may be feeling its still the convicted murderer in jail away from society and still the DP may be hanging over her head....at least for now...
Maybe she can start the Good deeds she talked about while incarcerated....

prayers to the Alexander family and friends!
So tragic all around......

It's not over....till the fat lady sings......the system is still there to render justice... It just may be somewhat longer....sad ending all around...

This jury really did let this family down, and I truly think the judge knows it too because of her emotions that sort of came threw her voice.

My only hope now is that the new jury will also hear the interviews that she gave. That may just be enough to push them over the edge because her true colors came out in the latest one.

My heart just breaks for the Alexander family. :sad1: They have been through so much!

Could not agree more with this. :thumbsup2

I am not a legal eagle, but I do know the judge can not sentence her to death only life either with or without parole.
Yup. And I do think this judge would give LWOP.
Speaking of the interviews, can JM use those during the next penalty phase?
::yes::

*Sigh of relief* But we know that Jodi will do her best to work the system, like no other.
So HLN may have her retrial and George Martinez trial both going on?

Also will they be looking under rocks for possible people who have no opinion,?
George Zimmerman?

The jury will now go and see the things they never heard or saw. And I am sure that will make them feel sick. I would love to know what they saw differently from one another. I heard Jodi's mom is upset. But now Nurmi and Willmont can walk away and she will be appointed another set of attorney's

So no reclinating, finger-sniffing, crazy socks, "bald spots", or desalting for the next trial? What will hWild talk about? :confused3 ;)

I don't see the judge letting Nurmi and Willmont walk away until after Jodi is sentenced. They know the case, unless they could get a different lawyer to sign on stating they could continue in July, they will not be allowed to quit.

I never said anything about murder. Never even used the word.

All I ask is that you be careful when you make blanket statements like that as you could really hurt someone who suffers from the disorder. People with mental illnesses already feel misunderstood and are treated like they're "crazy" enough without actually doing anything to deserve it. I'm really sorry that you had a bad experience with someone with BPD. I had a bad experience with someone who was diabetic, but I don't blame the disease. There are just bad people out there.

Yes he is the guy who killed Treyvon Martin in Florida esrly last year. His trial is June 10.

I'm glad to hear that at least. I suspect she and her actions have been eroding that tough image he's always had, and he may not like it much.

I'm not sure if this twitter account is JA's ... STATE vs JA Facebook page once referenced it that it was, but I'm not too sure now :confused3 ..

I don't think it is. Why would she use a media shot of her in the courtroom as her profile picture?

Yeah, I know, but I wouldn't put it past Jodi or Donavon posting some kinda reference to God.

I don't think Travis was 100% innocent. I think he was very guilty - guilty of being a fool who let his sex drive think for him. There is too much evidence that she stalked him for me to believe otherwise.

I think those of us who know somebody like her (and I do, although not to her extent - at least not thus far) are terrified by the fact that we know this could happen to somebody we know. Not everybody agrees with the death penalty, and I'm guessing you don't. I do, particularly in a case as savage as this one. It was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was premeditated - that completely does away with any question for me that she may reacted in the way you described. JMHO

I agree 100 percent. Jodi is sick. She is a narcissist. And her crime was heinous and premeditated. However, Travis was the enabler. He called her out on her stalking, but never reported her to LE. Why? He even called her crazy. But he protected her. Why?

Why did he allow her into his place months after they broke up, and while she was stalking him? Both of them had sex and took pictures the day she murdered him.

Yes, it was premeditated. Yes, it was cruel. But I could see a juror not willing to put her to death, maybe due to her personality disorder? Her parents even said there is something wrong with her, and her mother thought she may be capable of such violence in her interview with the detective. I personally think Jodi Arias is not all there. She lives in an alternate universe. It's all a big game to her. And I think personally it is cruel and unusual punishment to keep someone locked up 23 hours a day for 10 to 20 years before they are executed.

I think Judge Sherry Stevens is well aware of JA's danger to society that she will give her Life without parole if Juan Martinez decides not to seat a new jury or if another jury comes back hung.

I voted in your poll that they would have a hung jury. I thought some jurists would see mitigating factors not to put her to death.

This. Could not agree more.

This one claimed he wasn't treated better when he was a child:

DALLAS -- Naim Rasool Muhammad, the Dallas man convicted of killing two of his children, was sentenced to death Thursday.

On May 15, Muhammad was found guilty of drowning two of his three children in Aug. 2011.

Investigators said he was upset about the end of his turbulent relationship with the mother of his children, Kametra Sampson. He kidnapped her along with two of their sons, three-year-old Elijah and five-year-old Naim, on the way to the older boy's first day of school.

She later escaped, but the children were drowned in a creek.

In the punishment phase of the capital murder trial, the defense argued that Muhammad didn't pose a further threat to society and that he didn't deserve the death penalty.

He held the kids under water with his own hands.

Wow. Just wow. I've been gone all afternoon and just saw that the jury hung. I wonder what happened between finding her guilty, agreeing with the aggravation part and now sentencing? If JA doesn't deserve the death penalty then who does? I sure hope some of these jurors speak out. And to have this whole thing start all over again on my birthday. Ugh! Something tells me that between now and then, a plea deal will be reached...although I can't believe JA would agree to LWOP and I can't see JM accepting anything less.

Yeah, I know, but I wouldn't put it past Jodi or Donavon posting some kinda reference to God.

I wouldn't either ... I'm pretty sure @Jodiannarias is her twitter account ... Just not sure about the @Jodiann_arias account ... But whatever which one, I still think it's crazy that she can even have one at all :sad2:
