I know there are way more important things going on in the world, but I just have to vent.

I am currently looking for a job. The past three jobs I've applied for have progressed to the interview stage, and then ALL THREE claim they are eliminating the position, one due to budgetary reasons, other two no reason given.

I'm feeling pretty frustrated, but really am feeling disgust, too. It just doesn't seem professional to me. WOuldn't it make sense to get budgetary clearance for your job openings before advertising them? Or maybe the job was already promised to somebody and they simply went ahead with the search simply as a gesture to show a willingness to consider other applicants?

BTW, these are big companies, I really thought they'd have had their act together.

Anyway, I suppose it's good practice.

Thanks for listening! :goodvibes

Seems like they would have it a bit more together. Sending you some PD and luck with the next one. :wizard:

This happened to DH. A very big company offered him a job. Then HR found out that although they needed someone, no one had budgeted for the salary. ! So he was told to wait until the next fiscal year and they'd get him in. They never got him in. :(

This was Disney, BTW!!

I think the big companies are worse because there are too many departments involved in the hiring, too many procedures that have to be followed.... nobody knows what everyone else is doing... mass choas essentially.

Pixie dust for your job search! :wizard:

Thanks very much for the :wizard: !! I appreciate it!

diznygirl, you are probably right. Bigger companies might be worse with all those layers and no one communicating.

Even small companies do it. I work in HR, we get the order to start the search, then they start interviewing and decide to change the job description, then something happens and they realized there are budget problmes, meanwhile I've already started the interview processs and have some really good people and end up having to tell them, sorry but we are not making a hire at this point.

Don't yell at HR we're as mad ad the individuals in question as you are. Trust me I was on both sides of the desk for a long time. Very frustrating.

Good luck in your search.

That totally sucks. I hope something better than all of the last ones comes along and then you'll know they just weren't meant to be because you were saving the best for last!

Good luck to you!

Years ago I temped at a great real estate developer. After a few months I was hired full time with them. At the 9 month point, my job and another were eliminated.  Be glad you're still looking!! Hang in there! :thumbsup2

:grouphug:

Believe me, I totally understand.

DH has been searching for a new job for two months now. He gets through the interview process, they love him, then stuff seems to happen and either they've decided to postpone hiring, they don't call back at all (this is at a large company with a formal interview/HR process), or he just gets beat out by another candidate.

What I don't understand is why companys just don't say yes or no. Not calling back just seems so unprofessional. And I'm not talking a small company, this is a large corporation.

Best wishes to you in your search. I hope you settle into a great job soon.

They don't say "no" becuase they don't want to lose what they think is a possible candidate while someone in another area pulls strings that don't need to be pulled. I admit it stinks and I hate when I can't give someone a real answer. I will say when I get someone I know is not being considered at all, I do let them know asap.

What do you mean? I didn't follow this. What strings is someone else pulling? You mean to get someone into the job that may not necessarily be right for it yet they may be someone's friend?

No not so much that but someone pulling strings and making choices so that the open positions are then moved to another department. Many times, it's not HR that makes the final choices and we're left holding the bag with a really good candidate that we end up with no spot to put them in.
