Job hunters, where do you go to look for new jobs??

My company is in the process of trying to hire a new customer service person. Our current one is leaving us after 7 years of excellent service due to medical reasons....

We have had success in the past finding employees through word of mouth and craigslist but this time for some reason nothing is working along these 2 avenues....

Are websites like hot jobs and monster worth it to post a job listing? When I go research them they seem filled with almost nonsense like jobs such as work from home making 4k a week just send us $$ and we'll tell you how etc etc....

On craigslist now we have a very detailed posting including who we are, duties, salary, bonuses etc etc...It's not a vague post at all. It's also in multiple places and also job sections ( customer service and office - admin ) I thought with the current unemployment records being very high we'd have a large pool of applicants to choose from but this isn't true... Should we keep reposting on craigs or should we do hot jobs and monster? Any other websites that we should be thinking of? Thanks!

I like monster.com. I think it's the most reputable one out there. If I search my local paper's classified it actually links back to monster. Career builder seems to be a list of "work from home making $1000/day" junk.

I actually found my current job from craigslist which shocked me, but I guess you never know I think most people think craigslist is a scam, and most postings are. I think the key is to perhaps put your company name in the posting so people know you are a "real" ad and not a scam.

Both my husband and I have been victims of this economy and were laid off due to downsizing. I check Career Builder, Monster, and our local paper everyday. Occassionaly I will check Craigslist, but most of the jobs on there seem like a scam so I am very hesitant to send a resume.

I have gotten several interviews off of Monster and from the newspaper postings. DH just had an interview off of Monster last week. Nothing has panned out yet, but those seem to be the best routes.

Try posting an ad in a small local newspaper, particularly one who also posts the ads online. It's usually inexpensive, and you don't get lost in thousands of other ads in a larger paper or online.

I posted on monster.com. They have a 2 week post for $99 and already we've had a great response! Lots of local resumes and even a few people who we casually know from the area! Looks promising!

The interesting thing is the amount of resumes I got with spelling errors,grammar errors and also no experience in our field. One person had only worked at multiple nuclear power plants as some kind of engineer? I thought maybe he had clicked my post by accident? It seems as if also people looking for jobs will send their resume to everything out there. I guess they figure they may get a bite?

There is a lot of junk on all the posting sites but job searchers can filter that out easily. I used Career Builder when I went back to work 4 years ago. I liked the search feature better.

My husband has had his resume on Monster for years and years. He's had several calls for companies looking to hire him. Just a couple of weeks ago he got an interview and today he's going in for the final round of discussions.

And for some, sending in a resume to you will fill their unemplyment benifit quota for the week. State of IN, you must fill out one application or submit your resume to a posted open position every week, as well as look at two different ads. For the posted open position, you have to fill out the name of the Company and position applied for on your claim form. Believe me, there are times, when the open, posted position can become few and far between, so people will start applying to anything and everything.

I currently have 3 job postings on Careerbuilder. I get tons of responses. However many are not qualified and I believe they respond to get their quota in for unemployment.

Some states have a postings board in their unemployment office. You sign up online and can post there as well as search resumes. I have had success there for my lower level jobs.

My husband also got his last job from Monster. He had his resume posted there and a company called him out of the blue. They were looking for a very specific skill set, which he had and he ended up getting the job.
