Today I have read many posts on Jim Lewis and the prospects for a brave new DVC. This post struck me today:
"While I agree and wish we had an imporved, usable web site, I wouldn't bet that Jim Lewis will be working on it as a high priority. I think he will concentrate on areas where DVC can expand profits and increase profit margins. The web site isn't in either of those catagories. Don't we pay for the current MS reservations system through our dues? Since we do, there is no big incentive for DVC to change the system."
I disagree, I think the website is a huge priority for DVC. Disney is like any other large company. Each unit is a profit center. Thus, if Disney stores sells a Park Ticket, they get a cut of the action credited back to them.
What I predict is that DVC will use the web site to help drive more profits. They have a captive audiance. Why not allow folks to buy passes and UPH's through the website. In this way Jim gets his cut of the revenue. Today, in many cases, that money is going to another profit center.
In addition, to selling, if they can handle ressie's on the website. If they can handle just 25% of ressies on the website that is 25% MS reps they need. Again, that benefits Jim and his bottom line.
Of course, I am certain they will also sprinkle in some other things to make it a more user friendly site.
As a DVC member, I would rather see DVC profit on a ticket sale rather then another business unit. I have no problem throwing them my business.
While I am a relative newbie to DVC, Jim's tenure has certainly promised more hope then the time theat preceeded it:
1) New perks. (DVC probably does not benefit from these perks, obviously hard work on someones part to go out and deal with these business units).
2) New slide at OKW.
3) New website.
Promise of more things.
I would not hold my breath waiting for Jim to make it a world of perks for DVC'ers. Any perk he gets has to be attractive to the business unit giving the perk. But, from what I am seeing he has brought some promise of better things to come.
Good luck Jim!
