Jim Hill offering some details on Monsters Inc at WDW

I wish noone wanted to stand for 20 minutes - a lot of lines would be much shorter. <wink>

That said, I took DD8 to DL/DCA in Feb. I had to be in LA anyway and figured that we may as well add a few days to the trip since it's much easier to get to FL for us normally. The lines for Monster's Inc were absolutely crazy and we decided to jump in when we saw it had gone down at least a bit. Sooooo not worth waiting for that ride. As someone else mentioned, even for a dark ride, they just really missed what makes MI a fun film. MI could be made into a fun interactive show if they do go the Crush route. Frankly, done right, it'd make a great playground, too, and that would still be more fun than the DCA ride........

And I have seen pictues of these walls and they are just plain... some deco design on it.. nothing to give away what is going there.. unlike other walls...

This sounds super disappointing. They could have done so many other really cool things, but a show? Come on! Just another cheap excuse for an attraction. :sad2:

:thumbsup2 That's exactly what it is, and it's said. They should change this to Pixar World. I think we've seen the end of rides with their own stories for good. These guys have it on the mark.

I actually wouldn't mind a dark ride or two at MGM. I think the place could use a couple of rides geared more toward the younger crowd or the more sedate crowd.

It seem that what ever they are doing at DL (nemo,Monsters) they are trying a scaled down version at WDW .I just don't understand the thinking.

No I really do they need to keep the people flowing in the smaller of the 2 .

I really think even with EE that they need to do some new or more updated rides with out shuting down some of the old ones.I just think that there's a lot of waisted space that could be filled and help cut down on the lines and keep the people flowing.

Thats the whole point of the parks is to keep people moving and looking .For each time you look at something you have to make a decision to buy or not. Them more decisions you have to make the better chance you will make one to buy.

"New" is easier to market than "good".
But sometimes some people on this board (you included) don't seem to understand that something can be both "good" and "new".

And you seem incapable of understanding that Disney has yet to provide both.

Actually, I think they clearly understand that something can be both. But, they are not of the opinion that Disney has created such lately.

So nothing Disney does that is new is any good? Is that what we're saying? I understand some of your criticisms re: WDW but that is not fair at all.

Been to Expedition Everest yet?

And you seem incapable of understanding that they have created plenty of things that are/were new and good. This could go in circles forever.

That's your opinion.

I have mine. It goes in circles, because certain people have a tantrum every time somebody dares to express the opinion that Disney has been making junk for the past 10ish years.

I wouldn't call it junk, but it certainly hasn't been impressive. The only two rides that I would call "outstanding" in the last 10 years have been EE and Soarin. Other than that, most have been pretty mediocre at best.

Oh, but they have. And the vast majority of people would agree with me.

We all have our opinions. It just seems that you and a few others refuse to give any credit to anything Disney has done in the recent past (10-15 years). I agree that it has been a down time in imagination with Disney but it has not been completely bare. Far from it I think.

But I think even you would have to say that attractions like Soarin', Everest (haven't seen this one yet), Turtle Talk and others are great.

Sorry – but the standard I use isn’t “good”, it’s “Disney”.

“Good” is what you tell the third grader after her first piano solo. “Good” is how you describe your wife’s experiment with Hamburger Helper and left over pot roast. “Good” with what you call the “chicks with guns” script the attendant down at the gas station forced into your hands.

But “good” isn’t “Disney”. The Company was successful because they amazed, they wowed, they awestruck the audience. Disney reached so far beyond not only what their competition could do, but they reached beyond what the public was even possible.

And people are willing to throw down lots of money to see the impossible brought to life.

It’s only recently that Disney has refused – has consciously decided – to not even attempt to wow and awe. They settle for “good”. That’s why nothing recently has been “Disney”, they didn’t try. They’ve figured that people will just show up anyway.

Take a look a ‘Soaring Over California (unless you’re in Florida then we’ll just omit the name and hope the you are too stupid to realize everything they’re seeing is in another state)’.

It’s a great ride mechanism. The film is well shot. But what’s missing are the extra steps to make it something other than “we hang you in front of a big screen”. Where’s the curtain to hide what’s going on. Where’s the “wow” factor of presenting the film in 3D? Where’s the story in the film to make me feel something, other than to make me miss Hewell Houser*? It’s “good” and I recommend it that people see it, but it’s not “great” as in something that I’ve never seen or thought of before.

Disney can still create greatness, they just choose not to do it here any more. If you think ‘Expedition: Everest’ is kEwL – check out ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’ at Tokyo DisneySea! How come all we got was a really cool line and a Six Flags coaster when they get a super immerisive maxed out to the gills line AND an attraction with stuff to see AND one that has lots of thrills?

People don’t go to “good” – lots of people say California Adventure is “good”. Lots of people say Animal Kingdom is “good”. Just no one’s willing to pay for them.

Expedition to Everest is "Disney".. it is better than good, it is outstanding. It is the second best ride in all of WDW. I've spoken to people who have been on both (Journey and EE), and the clear consensus is that EE is a far superior ride and story.

Buzz light year, on the other hand, is schtick.

10 years, huh? Here is what I think is better then "good" in 10 years...

Tough to be a Bug
Kilimanjaro Safaris
Rock n' Rollercoaster
Buzz Lightyear
Test Track
Expedition Everst
Soarin
Mission Space
The Boardwalk (though that may have been 1996 which would technically be 11 years ago)
Animal Kingdom Lodge
The Wonder and Magic

If you don't think those are all better than good, to each his own. I do
