What say you? Is Jikos worth it?

It depends. Worth is a subjective term, and what is "worth it" to one person might be a total rip-off to someone else.

If you are asking how is the food and service, the answer is generally excellent to both.

If you are asking can you get a cheaper meal elsewhere, the answer is yes.

If you are asking about the atmosphere, the answer is very nice, sublime comes to mind.

But if you are asking if you will be happy spending the time and money to dine there, only you know your budget and means and can make that decision.

We've always enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Jiko. Wonderful, fresh, hot food with good service at a beautiful resort.

YAY for sure here! Everything we've had there has been top notch!! But that filet, it was the best filet I ever had and just to see if it was a fluke we're going there on Thursday and I'm going to try it again...we'll see if it was as good as last time!! :rotfl:

Odd man out. Our last time there was the absolute worst service we have ever had in WDW. I also think they pack in too many tables. I would rather eat at Boma's.

jiko is one of our favorite restaurants at disney world and on our must-do list for every visit.

Jiko is one of favorite places to dine. The others being CA Grill, Brown Derby, and Artist Point.

What type of restaurant do you like? We love the food there, the aromas of the foods, the relaxing atmosphere, & last but not least the largest collection of South African wine in the country. We put ourselves in the hands of our waiter by telling him what types of foods we'd like, types of wines we preferred, and he made suggestions on courses w/ wine pairings. It was one of most fabulous meals ever. The crem brulee was fantastic!!

Jiko packed with tables? Are you sure you were in the right place?

If you think that was the cae, I'll warn you to never eat in NYC, Montral, or Paris. IMHO it's more spread out than a lot of WDW restuanrants.

It's certainly not as crowded together as many of the Epcot places seem to be.
And even tho "worth it" has some variable components, overall I think it is. We've had excellent service and good food the many times we've eaten there.

Am I correct in assuming that the atmosphere in Jiko is conducive to children as long as they are well behaved? I think my DD5 would enjoy eating at the AK.

Yes children are fine and ours (DS10, DS7, DD4) did just great last year. Jiko's is one of the best restaurants on WDW property. We had a meal there last year that was just spectacular and the service was outstanding.

We just had the same experience. We've had many good meals and excellent service in the past. It was very disappointing as we took our Dad for his 73rd b-day. I'm working on a letter of complaint regarding our disrespectful server, a rude man named Marty. Any suggestions on who and where to write or email?

If you have bad service, ask for the manager while you are there. That is the best way to get something rectified.

We were celebrating my Dad's 73rd birhday. He's a quiet, reserved man and I didn't think he'd want me to draw any negative attention to our evening.

I say "YEAH!!" for Jiko. Its my favorite restaurant at WDW. We've had great service and just adequate service, but the food has always been so good that it made up for any lapses in service. We are not seafood people, so I can't comment on the fish dishes, but we LOVE most of the apps, the pork tenderloin, the braised short ribs, the filet with mac and cheese, and the lamb shank.

As for the non-celebration of birthdays, please don't expect that any restaurant will provide the celebration. When someone in our party is having a birthday I call the restaurant in advance and order (meaning pay for) a special cake. That is the only way I ever expect that a celebration will occur.

Gator Kate, if your bad service was more than not celebrating your father's birthday (happy birthday to him -btw) you could write a letter to the manager of JIKO or the AKL. I would just call the front desk and ask for the correct address. The other thing you could do is send an email to the general email addy on the Disney site. However, I agree with everyone else that the best thing for you to do would have been to speak to the manager that evening, even if you needed to step away from the table to do so.

We have, since our first trip there in 2003 made it to the restaurant...and 3 or 4 times a year! They have an excellent atmosphere, a premiere selection of wines and the service could not BE any better!!!

...to the nay sayers AND the yay sayers I encourage you to write to:
