Jiko or Boma

I see a lot of great reviews for Boma and now am considering trying it & I've seen some recent negatives for Jiko. We have reservations for Jiko and have gone once this past April. Would you cancel Jiko for Boma?
We are on the deluxe dining plan so credits/money isn't an issue.

I don't think that even with the recent changes, you can compare Jiko and Boma. I would keep Jiko.

I haven't been to Jiko since the most recent chef change, but I'm dining there next week. I'll post my thoughts after my trip.

I went to both just last week (or thereabouts, Boma was Sat 25, Jiko was Wed 29). Food-wise, Jiko was far better. The tomato salad, the bobotie rolls, the filet, all amazing (I picked the dutch spice cake for dessert, it was alright, but not really to my liking). However, Boma's selection and food is also great. If it were one or the other, and all other things being equal, I'd certainly pick Jiko, but Boma is also great and a bit cheaper if that's a concern. (Being on DxDDP at Jiko vs regualar may make a difference too, the Salad and App (both included? or my server messed up :p), were very very good).

Check out Sanaa. It is excellent. I actually ate there twice last week.

I think Boma is good (to be a buffet, it's excellent). They actually have my favorite breakfast on property, BUT I can't imagine that even with the recent menu changes that Boma and Jiko would be comparable. Not even in the same league.

We loved Boma when we went in September for dinner, so much so that we decided that we wanted to try it out for breakfast for our next trip in May, since a ton of people on this board like the breakfast much more than the dinner, we wanted to try it out for ourselves. But for your case, I wouldn't get rid of your Jiko ADR, I am also considering making an ADR for there as well since we too will be on the DxDP. I always say be your own critic, just because a few people didn't care for the restaurant doesn't mean that you won't either. Good luck in whatever you decide.

You can't compare them. It's like apples and oranges - they're both fruit but one isn't better than the other - it's a matter of personal taste.

Jiko is more of an upscale experience.

Boma is a casual buffet.

I like both, but when I have to choose, Jiko will always win out.

Book them both and cancel something else!:confused3

If you can only pick one, I'd go with Jiko, it's a much calmer dining experience with better food.

Take a long hard look at the Jiko menu. If everyone in the party sees something that they want to order, stay with Jiko. But if one or more people are not sure they will like this type of food, or if because it is unfamiliar you would rather sample bites of lots of different things, then go to Boma instead. To me, that is really what a buffet should be - a chance to try lots of things when you're not sure what you will really like, especially with a different cuisine. The food at Jiko may well be "better", but if you order something and it turns out you don't like it, it's not "better" for you.

I've been to Boma twice and Jiko once. My first Boma experience was amazing. All of the food was delicious. The second time I went, though, it was the complete opposite. The food just tasted old ... we were there at 7pm, so it's not like we were eating right before they closed. I loved everything about Jiko (except the waitress we had). I had one of the best desserts there ... sour cream ice cream w/ berries ... YUMMY!

Good luck w/ your decision! If it were me, I would do Jiko.

I am so glad you posted this question - I was wondering the same thing. I have a reservation for Jiko but have heard some bad reviews and so I was getting nervous.

After reading all this - I am going to keep ther reservation at Jiko.

Even if you are on deluxe dining, the credits *are* an issue because Jiko takes 2 credits while Boma takes only one. So, for example, if you need to "use up" more credits because you already have too many meals scheduled, then you should do Jiko. But if you are already doing a bunch of Signatures and need to save your credits, then you could try Boma. Although I love Boma to pieces, I would probably choose Sanaa to get a little more bang out of my dining credit. All 3 of those places are awesome.

We first tried out the Buffet and was really underwhelmed by the atmosphere and the taste of the food. The next time we tried Jiko and I was very impressed by the meal that I had. The meat was incredibly tender and full of flavor. It was expensive but well worth it!

I would love to go to Jiko, is it part of the dining plan? Couldn't find that info.

Thanks for the advice, but as I said it "isn't" an issue :confused3 I've used the deluxe plan many times, so I know how it works and I think I know if it is an issue or not, just this past April we "saved" over $500 & had some credits to spare, so although I know how to get more for the credits, it really isn't a priority, not that it was last time either. I just asked to compare the restaurants and I didn't care about price or credits but I wanted to put that in there so I didn't get feedback on price as it wasn't an issue.
But thanks for the advice, although you didn't answer my question just told me about the credits/system :lmao: (this might sound mean & I am not trying to be, I just though it was funny)
& to everyone else thank you. I think we will stick with Jiko.

Yes it is part of the dining plan. The disney website has an adobe file that lists all the participating restaurants and how many credits they take & whether it is a TS (table service) or CS (counter). & some other info in their file too.
