Jetblue told me not to worry that my ticket name doesn't match my ID. should I worry?

Hi all,

this is in reference to the new TSA crackdown on mismatched names on tickets and IDs, meaning the name on your ticket has to match EXACTLY as your ID. exactly meaning your middle initial, and "jr" "sr" etc.

I had left my middle initial off of my ticket reservation on Jet Blue, but my driver's license has it. I called Jet Blue to correct it (so as not to cause delays in check in and at security) and they said that it hasn't been put in place yet, so don't worry about it. I told them my flight was this August, and they said maybe in the future it would be a rule.

Should I worry? what are you all doing?

i have 3 different IDs,,when i fly and they ask for ID i fan them out and say "pick a card,,,any card" no problem

I just flew last week and even though I read on these boards I was going to have a problem I had none. My middle initial is on my ID but wasn't on my ticket. DH was the same TSA didn't question it.

You should not worry.

In short:

Beginning May 15, 2009, passengers should specify their middle name or initial (to match their ID) when booking airline flights.

Beginning August 15, 2009, passengers must enter their date of birth and gender when booking airline flights.​

It's not a "new TSA crackdown," and it doesn't mean that passengers are now being hassled by the TSA because their middle initials are missing on their boarding passes.

It's preparation for enhanced watch list matching in 2010.

Here's a key paragraph from the press release:

In the near future, small differences between the passenger's ID and the passenger's reservation information, such as the use of a middle initial instead of a full middle name or no middle name/initial at all, will not be an issue for passengers. Over time, passengers should strive to obtain consistency between the name on their government issued ID and the travel information they use for booking flights.​

I was told not to worry by US Airways. According to them, they are waiting for a directive from the TSA. So far they have not received one. Currently it is not being enforced.

Counting down 10 days to my trip. Middle initial on my DL, no middle initial on SW. Not worrying.

No worry. My ticket never has my middle name but my IDs always have it. Never been an issue. I travel jet blue montly.

Barring weather, the Travel Advisory link at the top of JetBlue's home page should answer your question. Ultimately, if I recall, when the TSA gets to JetBlue, the airline will notify passengers. At the moment, they don't even have a field for one's middle name/initial.

Don't worry we were told the same thing. Just remember it for future reservations.

Not worried here either. We are booked on Jetblue for August, October and December. I noticed that Jetblue and SW don't even have a place to enter your middle name or initial and until they change their web info, there's no sense in worrying about it. I flew on May 16th after the new rule and it was not an issue at all.
