JetBlue credit card/points question

Had gotten an email from JetBlue that if we get their credit card they will give us 20,000 bonus points. I am going to need flights for Presidents week, 2011. I know point wise that week's flights are probably pretty high.

But my question is that since I will probably book the day flights are released can you book say, 3 tickets for $ and then one ticket on the points (provided I have enough) all at one time? My concern is that I will get the tickets for me and the kids, then go back to buy DH's ticket on points and I won't have enough points for him to be on the same flight we are on. Does that make sense? I just want to know if I can book all our flights at once, one on points, rest cash?

Thank you!

p.s. Any thoughts on this credit card are welcome as well. We haven't applied yet, we have until the 30th.

melk - I believe you have to book them separately if doing so online.

You will get different reservation #s for them as well.

I haven't looked but I'd bet the 20K points won't get you a roundtrip President's week which is usually very high demand and very high $$ depending on where you're flying from.

When the fares are released for those dates you can go on the site and search by points to see what the number required for the flights are. With the points you can also book only one segment if you wish and get the other segment for cash.

On the day you decide to book, the best procedure would be to go on and search for flights by points, check to see if there are enough seats available together, or not if that's OK with you, and then book one seat on points. You would then get back to the screen to search for flights and this time do it for cash reservations and then book your remaining 3 seats.

JB recently changed their FF program and now with the points being based on dollars spent there are no longer any blackout dates for using FF points - that's the good news. The bad news is that high demand dates/destinations require a boatload of points.

I've had their JB AMEX card for 3 years or so and I have found it works well for me. It's not the best deal out there by any means, but as I fly JB for business, I use the card for all my business expenses and with the resultant points, in addition to the points from completed segments, I can usually earn two free RT tix a year which we use for annual WDW vacation.
