Jet Blue Seat Issue

Our upcoming May trip is the first time we will be flying Jet Blue. When we booked the tickets I choose our seats at the front of the plane (row 2 on the way down and way back). We were one of the first people to book on both flights so most seats were available at the time of booking.

I keep checking on the flights on a regular basis (mainly watching to see if the price is going to drop). I noticed this morning that Jet Blue has now moved our seats. On the flight on the way down we are now in the middle of the plane with all seats in front of us showing as booked. On the way back they moved us by one row (which isn't a big deal).

I know this isn't the end of the world, but I'm a bit peeved as we booked early so that we could pick the seats that we wanted. The flights #s haven't changed, the plane make/model hasn't changed -- all is the same.

Why is Jet Blue doing this and is there any chance I could get the row we booked in the beginning if I was to call them (even though the row is showing as unavailable online)?

Jet Blue installed "more leg room seats" and most likely the problem is the seats you originally booked either were not "more leg room seats" and they became ones during a plane refresh (or swap - with no impact to flight numbers or plane style) or the seats were miss categorized.

Remember, the airline doesn't guarantee any specific seat on the plane, they could move everyone if they so choose, all they guarantee is a seat on a flight that has departure and arrival dates on the same day originally booked.

Did you pay the extra fee for those seats? If you did I would call them. If you didn't I would think there was some kind of glitch that you booked those seats without the fee. Call them anyway to see what happened.

Thanks everyone.

I did not pay extra for the seats as most seats are included in the Jet Blue price. Row 2 which I selected is labeled as standard coach seating (confirmed this on seatguru.com) and are not the seats that require the additional fees. Row 12 is the row with the additional leg room that costs an additional $10 per seat (confirmd this on jetblue.com).

Maybe the plane is different than the type we fly from EWR to MCO. Row 2 is always in the extra charge seats on each flight we have taken.

You should just give them a call to find out what happened. We always fly JetBlue and have never had any issues with our seats, and their customer service is wonderful. We were so thrilled when they came to Portland, and even more thrilled when they added the nonstop flights! Good luck, and enjoy your trip!

It sure sounds like that the OP was indeed slotted into an Extra Legroom row, but since the Extra Legroom fee was not part of the reservation, the passengers were moved from that row to make room for more Extra Legroom fee-paying passengers.

I just checked my JetBlue flights... They've definitely run some sort of update to their reservations system, because my confirmation number has changed. (My flights and seats haven't, though.) Also, their website now seems to much more clearly identify when a seat assignment is an Extra Legroom seat. Interesting.

I'm thinking like the others that you booked an extra leg room seat and the correction was made during the new website upgrade. I'm sure not all the flights are the same, but our JB flights out of Dulles have rows 2-5 and 10-11 as extra leg room flights. You should call JB and talked to them as find out what happened. I've called JB many times and find them very friendly and helpful. Good luck and post back if you figure it all out!

It looks like the OP's flight is on one of the 100 passenger Embrear planes, not the more typical Airbus to which most of us JetBlue fans are accustomed :) The Embrears only have one "official" extra legroom row, and two other rows with an extra inch of pitch at no additional cost.

Yes, bicker, they did update/upgrade/adjust/alter(/improve?) the reservation system, just last weekend. It's entirely possible that's what changed the OP's seat assignment.

I agree with the poster who recommended simply calling JetBlue. True, seat assignments are never guaranteed - but it's possible a rep can do something for you that the website couldn't.
