Jesus wasn't resurrected

Like ead79 said, having the promise of Heaven when you die is a positive but not the only one. Of course, when that is brought up, we are bombarded with comments about "being scared into belief, pious for thinking we can actually be assured of Heaven upon death" etc. etc. I've heard all those comments way too often.

So, you can then bring up having a personal relationship with God. But get ready, because boy, do people think that is a strange and wrong comment. From "God doesn't in our everyday lives" to "what? you have a direct line to God??!" comments. Do those negative comments about THE greatest relationship I have really bother me? No, they really don't. I have freely put myself out there for people to laugh at and roll their eyes at because the relationship with God is just what it is. I am not special, I think I am just having the relationship offered to anyone through Christ.

I'm sorry you don't see/feel any love through Christians here on the boards. I'm sure it would be different in person than trying to convey those feelings through the internet. As far as being turned off by negativity, I know what you mean. I think anyone involved in anything with other other people encounters it--whether it be church, school, or Disney etc.

My candy coating comment is more about Christians who think they can please everyone by sitting on the fence (being neither hot nor cold=lukewarm). They're happy and everyone's happy because they are saying "pick your path, it is OK. Everyone just pick a path! It'll be OK!"

If you don't see a problem with the combination of when and why people post these things you support them posting then there isn't much to discuss.

Frankly I don't understand how people like yourself can not be upset by the damage they are doing to the Chrsitian persepctive on this board, but obviously that's not my call to make. Past pissing me off now and then they don't affect me in the least.

Maybe it's because I'm non-Christian, but still a believer in the big picture, that makes me see it when BOTH sides do it rather than just one side. There are things posted about beliefs in a higher power the that offend me as well, but why should I say anything when this is the reponse to when people say Christians are rude?

Yes, I understand that. I think the "rapture" is a hard concept for a lot of people to accept, non christians and many christians alike.

The only point I was hoping to make is that the rapture in some form is a part of the doctrine of most christian faiths that I know of. I don't think people realize that.

I didn't even know what "rapture" was until my middle 30's.

No, you don't. But you were asking where the rest of us were...we are here. We just sometimes don't have the energy to engage in the same old same old.

That's fine, but people have taken the non-believers to task on their posts and nobody ever says word one to them doing so. It's totally accepted, even expected that people would be upset with those slamming Christians but you are treated like crap or ignored if you dare speak up about the rude Chrsitians.

I'm going to paste what magicmato posted again and leave it that. Maybe one of these days somebody might actually directly respond to her point, but it's been made before and everybody dances around it like a may pole. It's why Christians are "under attack" yet everybody forgets this point has been raised when people ask why.

If a person came up to a Christian and said: "I believe the 33% of the world who believe in Christianity are all doomed to ride a merry-go-round for eternity because they believe in a false god!" I would say that that Christian would scream about their faith being attacked and rightly so. Yet that very same Christian would probably not see anything wrong with "sharing the Word" and telling a non-christian that 67% of the world is wrong in their beliefs and here is why.

I have more of a problem with people telling people to pick whatever YOU want to believe, God's a loving God and it doesn't matter what the Bible says. I think things can be said respectfully and as I said, I have seen it turn disrespectful on both sides. I don't always agree things are said as nicely as possible. And I do agree with many posters who do post straight and to the point even though I wish it could be said in a kinder way. But heck, my last couple posts haven't be too sugary so I'll just shut up.
Time is short for me. This is a "same old, same old" conversation that divides more than it does anything else.

No offense, but some of them should read as rude no matter what you believe. For example, implying that people here are Pharisees is just one more to add to the list.

.

There is nothing wrong with being a Pharasee..Pharasees are the founders of Rabbinial Judaism..It is the NT that goves Pharasees a bad name..They are held in high regard within Judaism.

BTW, Joy, no PM :confused3

That is so odd. That's not the first time it happened either. I sent a pm to someone else a while back and I thought they just chose to ignore me, but now I'm wondering if they ever got it?

I'll try to resend.

I am one of those people who were in the religion and has flirted with it now and then, but really cannot commit to it for the simple fact that I am repulsed by the negativity, the judgemental attitudes, etc. So I do not speak for non-christians, but for those who used to believe, I guess.

You made my point for me. Christians who come on with that attitude have done more damage than any TV show ever could. I have a Christian rock song on my iPod that was recorded at a live concert. Before the song begins, the lead singer says: "The greatest danger to Christianity today, is Christians" and he's got a point.

I don't know if this was especially directed at me, but I'll respond to it. God is beyond my comprehension, so I can't say with complete certainty that the path I am following is the only right path, and that the path others are following is wrong. God is the ONLY one that can say that. I'm doing what I believe is right by choosing to be a Christian and whether I'm hot, cold or lukewarm is between Jesus and me-not for anyone else to say. I believe that Jesus is going to have something to say to me not only about how I treated His followers, but how I treated those that were not His followers.

I knew that, but thanks. :)

If somebody calls me on my posts I'll point them to this thread and explain to them that I'm only giving my feelings on what I believe without candy-coating it.

I sort of figured you did, but I think a lot of people don't..It's pretty sad to see the backbone of your religion essentially turned to a dirty word.

Blaming an entire group for the actions of individuals has a LONG history.

That's fine, but people have taken the non-believers to task on their posts and nobody ever says word one to them doing so.
Not true, I have done it myself. If search worked, I could easily find a thread where I chastized another Christian poster for attacking a non-Christian.

For the record, I do not tell anyone their religious beliefs are wrong. I tell them I disagree with them. Again, please do not lump us all in the same mold with always and never. Many, many Christians are NOT extreme. Some of us are here. This argument will never change because the extreme posts are the most notable and replied to.

I think you need to read what I wrote again. That isn't at all what I was posting about.

I thought Jesus died on the cross, and was taken down to a tomb. three days later he popped up alive again. where does he magically disappear with no trace into heaven?

I went to church, I went to sunday school, I went insane trying to follow this line of thinking.

40 days after he was resurrected he ascended into heaven. During the 40 days he was back on earth he made various appearances to his followers.

Edited to add the verses:

Luke 24:50-51
When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.

Acts 1:9-12

After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day's walk from the city.

I just did and I am still missing your point, I guess (I have a sinus headache, so bear with me)

I was responding to your assertion that people attack non-Christians and no one calls them on it. I have and do. I just don't have the time or energy to do it constantly.

So, if there was another point, I missed it.

And I do not think it is right for anyone to attack anyone else for their religious or non religious beliefs.

Totally OT... but for some reason, I thought this thread was about KIRK Cammeron... and I was going to say I could give a rats behind about what Mike Seaver has to say about religion.. ;)
