Ok, but what about the Gospel accounts of the Passion? The Romans didn't act alone. There were religious leaders that were also threatened by Jesus. I believe that these were individual actors and in no way represented the entire Jewish community. We all know of religious leaders today that are quite fond of their power, I'm sure the time of Jesus was no different. Just as folks like Pat Robertson don't speak for all Christians today, I'm sure that the people responsible for handing Jesus over to the Romans did not speak for the community as a whole either.

First,let me clarify one thing..I do belive that a man,named Jesus, claiming to be Moshiach, was probably executed in the first century..Despite my posts about lack of proof,I do tend to think it happened... That said I don't view the CHristian bible as 100% accurate..I don't view the Torah that way either,so it's nothing personal.
Jews were being heavily persecuted in the first century, by who? The Romans. Jesus would have been one of hundreds of thousands of Jews murdered in that era.. Now you hae a group of people who wish to spread his message.. How far do you think that message would hae spread if their boook accused the same people who were persecuting them of killing their God? They woul have likely been wiped out..Period.. In fact they pretty much were wiped out later on that century anyway. I'm not saying early Christians lied and shifted blame..There many very well hae been some Jewish involement in his execution. I'm saying that for there own safety it was pretty imporatant for them to shift as much blame off the Romans as they could .
I'd also like to point out that if the Romans had also recived the majority of the blame there would probably be no CHristianity today. Christianity only became the world power it did because it was adopted as the official religion of Rome

Could be, history is written by the winners. If you subscribe to the theory that it is the sin of humanity that killed Jesus, which is a common Christian teaching, then it really doesn't matter what group the individuals belonged to.

This thread is on my subscription list & MSNBC.Com had this AP article(titled - 'Jesus Tomb' makers mistaken) pop up in its Science section today. Thought others might find interesting as well. (I think the expert quoted in the AP article also appeared in the documentary.) Who ever knew that ancient language could be so controversial?
