Jesus loves you over MK

I really do think of it that way. I think anyone who performs an act simply because they are told to do so, or in this case, compelled to do so because the Bible says so, is being disengenuous and only doing it out of fear of reprisal, aka, sinning.

Up until recently, it used to really irk me to no end. Now I just give a little head shake and say a silent prayer that they didn't tick off too many people in the process. Talk about paying to disservice to God, eh? As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The God I pray to is an all knowing loving God who knows what is in our hearts and when we are being genuine. He also knows when someone is full of hooey.

What about Christian missionaries who serve in other countries, basically giving up their lives to spread the Gospel? Do you think they do that out of love or because the Bible says to? What do you think their message is? It's Jesus loves you!

There are different kinds of Christians. Some, I do believe act out of love. My stepmother is an ordained minister and is one fantastic lady. She's deeply devout, but also deeply respectful of other people. I have no doubt that if I asked her to share her faith with me she'd be thrilled, but she'd never push it. She lives a great life and leads by example.

Then there is my dad. He is also deeply devout, but gosh darn it Jesus told him to spread the word and he's going to do it come hell or high water. He doesn't care how many times you tell him that you aren't interested and doesn't respect that your beliefs are different. He's going to beat you over the head with his Bible until you come to your senses. He, I believe, acts out of obligation. He's doing what he feels like he's been told to do.

Which one do you think is more effective?

Hey! Think we can hire the guy to write "Surrender Dorothy" over MGM? ;)

it's ''We can't mind our own business so we're going to go try to convert people to our way of thinking and ask for 10% of their earnings afterward"

Neither.

Not sharing the Gospel is ineffective and beating people over the head is ineffective.

It is not respectful to not share the Gospel with someone. All are worthy of the message of salvation.

Nope, you're wrong. It is not respectful to try to beat something into someone regardless of your intentions. If I had a question about Christianity, I'd seek out someone who I feel acts as Jesus would have.

I didn't say to beat something into anyone. You can share the Gospel in a respectful way.

People's souls are God's business, and God sends us as harvesters into the field. We are our brother's keeper. :)

My soul is MY business. I can choose to believe whatever I want to believe. I 100% believe in God. I also 100% support gay marriage, stem cell research, and a woman's right to choose. You don't? That's fine with me, as long as you're respectful of people with these beliefs.

I'm more than willing to discuss other people's beliefs with them, whether they coincide with my own or not. It's interesting to hear people's opinions on religion and what they believe in. But I won't be willing to do so if you're just going to dismiss my beliefs and opinions, and try to convert me to something I'm not interested in, in order to "save my soul." Regardless of what religion you are, or who you believe goes to Heaven or Hell, your best bet is to be respectful of people.

Yes, we all have big choices to make. God wants us to influence the lives (and choices) of others in love thru our words and deeds. :)

That would be more funny if all Christians tithed! :lmao: Most estimates (by church financial officers) put it at 20% or less.

And what if they are not interested in the gospel? What if they didn't want you to share with them?

Jesus said:

Mark 6

11"And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave, as a testimony against them."

12They went out and preached that people should repent.

This thread actually just reminded me of a couple weeks back, Joe and I were at the pool and we noticed a sky writer. He kept plopping down (up?) Heiniken Heiniken Heiniken Heiniken all over the city.

I didn't get turned to Heiniken. That stuff still sucks.

This is a very good point. You saw Heiniken and thought, nooooo, thank you! But I doubt if you were offended, unless all advertising just really offends you (and I'm not picking on you, just using your example.)

I don't understand the people who are joking about seeing it and being immediately converted. If the skywriter thinks that will happen, he really is a lunatic. (If I write "Beastie Boys Rock" on something I don't think everyone who reads it is going to magically go buy a CD). I guess I'm not so much on his side ( I wouldn't do what he does) as I am confused by the people outraged by it. After all, as I've said, people don't get this upset about people who promote their favorite band or even something like WDW. What if the guy had written something patriotic about the USA?

It has to be that they just hate the concept of Jesus to begin with and are irritated by the mention of him in an irrational way.

(btw, I don't even like the Beastie Boys, they are just my example du jour).
