Jesus loves you over MK

yes, I am sure Jesus Christ never offended anyone with His words while He walked this earth. NOT!

Even His own words saying He was God and also "I am the way, the truth..." are offensive. If people do not believe that Jesus was who He said He was than they have a very big chance of being offended by those words.

Never would I hurt someone with those type words on purpose. However, God's Word steps on many toes every day. I know it does for me anyway. There are things in the Bible I wish were not there, but I can't change what I believe is God's Truth, THE truth so that it will not hurt me, offend me, or just say only these thing I want it to say.

There is no way to sugar coat the reality of Christianity. You do not have to stuff it down someone's throat or threaten them with life after death being seperated from God even, but the truth is, the words of the Bible will offend.

And seeing that a higher power (whether God or Jesus) loves you written in the sky is probably not high on the scale of offensiveness. JMHO.

I've actually been on a few sides of this debate as a former agnostic turned Christian. When I first moved to Florida the first time I saw the skywriter I wasn't offended but I did roll my eyes. Then over time, he sorta grew on me, I admired his persistence and passion and my kids always got a kick out of him. But I still didn't get why he did it.

Then a little over a year ago, I accepted Jesus and it transformed my life in ways I couldn't even imagine. Now I understood why he does what he does, I think he simply wants to spread the word of God in a way he loves and enjoys.

I think you and I are getting closer here. My point is that the messengers shouldn't push people away from the Message by their actions. If someone is going to be offended by the words of Jesus in the Bible, I can't control that-but I CAN control the image of Jesus that I display to that person with my actions. If I project an image that attracts them to seek Jesus out, then I've done all I can.

The people that led me to faith were not the ones who preached to me with words. They were the people that showed me through their lives and their actions that being a Christian was something that I wanted. My great Grandmother, who spoke to Jesus and Mary as she went through her day as if they were old friends. My Great Aunt Helen who saw the good in absolutely everyone she met, never said an unkind word about anyone and fought cancer with a grace that I could only hope to emulate. My Dad, who loves unconditionally and without reservation. A co-worker who came into work every day with a smile on her face and a song on her lips. I could go on, but you get my drift. None of those folks preached AT me, they didn't quote Bible verses or threaten me-they simply lived their faith every day and made me want what they had.

The only time I ever saw that clown was on a quick Disney trip right after I was diagnosed with cancer. I have to say, the sky writing pretty much made me apoplectic. If Jesus really loved me, he wouldn't have given me cancer or threatened to make my children motherless for a second time.

 I'm so sorry.

I think each one of us is given a "gift" from God. This gift he gives us is the way he wants us to preach his word. Maybe you have a beautiful singing voice--to sing in church. Maybe you are good with kids--teach SUnday school. Maybe you are a good cook--cook for lonely/poor or elderly people. This guy can write messages in the sky and can afford to do it. Maybe one day somebody will be really down on life and happens to look in the sky and it will change his life and he will accept God into his heart. It sounds far fetched, but I think it could happen.

Why go to church when believers can just log onto the DIS boards?:confused3

Please don't harvest my soul. It is blooming just beautifully just the way it is.

If that is the case though, then I must be obliged to harvest your soul to my side, 'cause as you said, we are our brother's keeper.

Umm, yeah. Please stay far far away from my soul.

IMO, the world would be a much better place if people worried more about their own souls and let others take care of their own. My abusive father was a "good Christian:" went to church regularly, participated in the choir, "harvested souls," the whole nine yards. Except for the whole abusive thing, of course. He passed away from a heart attack when I was 18. Everyone at the funeral kept going on and on about what a great man and good Christian he was. So excuse me if I'm a bit skeptical of others worrying about my soul because they claim to be "right with God."

Yes but numerous people here have said that they feel offended by it. Fitswimmer asked why it is acceptable to put up a message which people feel offended or excluded by. The answer given on the thread was because the message is sooo very important. Why is it important? Because anyone who doesn't accept Jesus is going to burn.

Now maybe the skywriter doesn't actually think his message is important in that way. Maybe he just likes doing it. But then we come back to Fitswimmer's question--isn't it rude to put that message up there when we know that it is in fact offensive to people or they do feel excluded by it?

In any case, as I said in a previous post, it's extremely hard to buy the idea that this man puts so much time and effort into the sky writing, but doesn't buy into some kind of view that he's proselytizing. His website, in fact, seems to indicate that this is what he is doing.

You're wrong.

The overriding reason seems to be that whole free speech thing.

Jesus and His Apostles shared the Gospel -- so should we -- in deed and in word. :goodvibes

I doubt you'll be converting anyone with the in-your-face method.

Dear Jesus,

Please excuse the skywriter from his proselytizing in mid December. It really is not going to change my mind and will only cause me to mock the ridiculous misguided attempts made in your name to save my soul.

Thanks!

:lmao: :thumbsup2

it won't be by a long shot, but this needs to be the end of this thread. I applaud your bravery for coming to this conclusion and posting it here. I sat by and watched a family member waste away to death after a stroke shrugging off the treatments waiting for Jesus to cure him.

As long as everyone who is ok with "Jesus loves you" in skywriting, is also ok with "Allah loves you" in skywriting - I see no problem.

How about writing?

There is no God.

My personal opinion is I'm for free speech and therefore I don't want to restrict his rights. However Disney is private property and they should be able to prevent his free speech on their property if they want to. But that's Disney's prerogative not mine.

We've covered free speech earlier in this thread. We are all on the same page--he has the right to free speech meaning the govt cannot prevent him from skywriting the message. Nobody is disputing that.

That's a separate question from whether it is morally acceptable or acceptable in terms of politeness to do what he is doing which is what I was asking about.

I assumed he was flying over the Reedy Creek Improvement District when he did his skywriting. I suspect Disney could legislate or make some sort of rule/law that would prevent flying over the Reedy Creek Improvement District in such a way as to prevent the skywriting.
