Is this an annual event, and if so what are the dates for 2003?

I don't know what the dates are for 2003, but I will NEVER again go to WDW during Jersey week. I've never seen Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney so crowded. We missed so many rides because the lines were just way too long. We went back to the hotel around 4pm because we couldn't stand the crowds anymore. We had hoped that when we returned at 6pm that it would be better, but it was actually worse.

That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid. we are booked fro next 11/7-12,2003 which I've learned is Soap weekend. If its Jersey week, too,it will be too crowded and I'll reschedule.

The dates for NJ Teacher's Convention for 2003 are scheduled for Nov. 6, 7, & 8 according to their web site. I don't think the schedule usually changes but I'm not 100% sure. You will be getting their at the end of "Jersey Week". I'm from Jersey and wouldn't even go this week. Two years ago we drove to WDW during those teacher's convention days and stayed the following week (as you have planned) and it was wonderful. Your dates sound as if it might be crowded on the weekend but by Monday things will have emptied out. Have fun!

I guess we are in the minority here, but we went 11/2-11/8 & our last day there was the only one that was crowded. I did plan our parks according to low attendance using Deb's site as well as Safari Steve, so maybe that helped. But up until Thusday 11/7, we were able to walk on to every ride or occasionally have a 5-10 min wait. The weather was wonderful as well.:D

I have the dates thru 2005:

2003: Nov. 6,7,8
2004: Nov. 4,5,6
2005: Nov. 10,11,12

Happy planning avoiding us Jersey folks:p

We just got back from our trip, park days were 11/9 - 11/16. Crowds at all parks were way lower than those on our past trips in the first week of March. MGM was crowded on the Sat. of Super Soap, but all the rides were walk-ons. If NJ Week had any impact, I didn't notice it. By mid-week the parks were almost too empty for my taste. You need SOME people there to give the place life. I'd schedule this week again in a minute, but we're probably going to have to do March again next year due our daughter getting married in the fall.

Hi All,

Here's the deal with Jersey Week.

Every public school is off on the Thursday and Friday for the teacher's convention. Some schools are off on Tuesday for election day and many districts (like Hoboken) take the entire week off. Some schools are only off on Thursday and Friday but they generally take off on Monday for Veteran's Day.

The New Jersey Education Association convention used to be at the end of October to coincide with Halloween, but they changed it about 5 years ago. Having it on the same week as Election Day and/or Veteran's Day gave people enough time to take a full vacation.

I was there for Jersey Week and it was much more crowded than the week before or after. There were lines for everything in Disney and in Universal. The restaurants were crowded, too. Super Soap weekend was also a huge crowd draw, although anyone who wanted to go on the rides could because the crowds were there for the stars. IMHO, I wouldn't do that again.

I had to laugh when getting on the boat to leave Epcot - the captain was asking another park guest how they were enjoying their stay, and she said that the rides were great except for the rowdy crowds from Jersey on Honey I Shrunk the Audience. I giggled and when he turned and asked where we were from, my Mother answered "Brooklyn!" She still doesn't admit she ever moved.

So remember, Election day week is Jersey Week.
Enjoy!

We were visiting 11/2-11/10, and I won't make that mistake again! Between Jersey Week, Super Soap, and Veterans Day, Saturday the 9th was just about unbearable, with the days leading up to it steadily increasing in attendance. There was actually a wait for Small World! Most of the bigger rides were averaging at least a 45 minute wait. We fast passed some stuff, but there is a limit to how many fast passes you can get! Oh well... next year's trip is 12/5-12/17... I'm sure the crowds will be a good bit lighter!

Erin :D
