Jersey Week dates?

Just wondering if anyone out there from NJ knew the dates of the teachers' conferences this year. My daughter is in kindergarten this year and we went to Disney in Oct (I pulled her out of school for more than a week). Then she had the first week in November off for the teachers conferences. I had no idea about this since I'm new to the whole "school-age" children thing. Anyway, I was planning next year and heard that the conference dates would be Nov 4, 5. I scheduled my vacation for next yr from Oct 30 through Nov 6. Now I'm hearing that the teachers conference is the following week. Anybody have official dates?? Thanks!

don't know, but I would like the dates too.
Bump!!
Anyone know?

Dates for the future NJEA Conventions:

2004
Thursday, November 4
Friday, November 5
Saturday, November 6

2005
Thursday, November 10
Friday, November 11
Saturday, November 12

2006
Thursday, November 9
Friday, November 10
Saturday, November 11

Thank you Dopey Sharon. I think we had a thread going a few months ago about the Jersey Week crowds. The only reason I brought it up again is that one of my neighbors said a friend of hers is a NJ teacher and that the conference was not the 4,5,6th
this year, which made me nervous about my dates!! Thanks again!

Check the NJEA site at www.njea.org to be sure. You have to look around a bit, but the dates for the next few years are there somewhere. I've found them before.

Hope that helps.

That means the preceeding Sunday is Halloween. I wonder how that will affect the crowds. We've gone for New Jersey week the past two years and the crowds have been minimal but combining it with Halloween week might make it a bit more crowded.

I hope not....as you can see, I'll be there from the 31st to the 5th of November! :D

Thanks for the info, Dopey Sharon! I have another question for Jersey Week vets...are the crowds heaviest the few days prior to and including that weekend, or do they spill over into the following week as well? TIA!

It depends on when Veteran's Day falls. Last year, our school's were closed from November 5 -11, so us Jersey people, probably spilled over into the following week. We haven't gotten the school calendar yet, for next school year, but I'm guessing that we will only have off Wednesday, Thursday and Friday...going back on the following Monday, since Veteran's Day is the end of that week, so I doubt many of us will still be down there the week after. Hope that helps! :D

I just got hold of our calendar for next year and we have off the 4th and 5th for the NJEA convention and also the 2nd for Election Day. This past November they had combined Veterans Day in with that week and gave us the entire week. November 04 they gave us the 2nd, 4th and 5th and then Veterans Day at the end of the following week. At least I don't feel too bad, my daughter will only miss 2 days of school the week we are gone. Thanks for everybody's input. See ya at Jersey week!

Can we consider this and "official word" of what Jersey Week will be at WDW for the next few years? Are these dates set in stone?

Well, they came from the NJEA site, so I would think they are official. :D

Put this in your PDA

This link gets you to the future dates for the NJEA Convention - aka "the dates to avoid WDW in November"

Now - what do parents typically do? Go the week before or the week after the convention? I would guess the week before since that requires missing fewer days of school. Do the schools give the students the whole week prior to the conference off?

Not every district is the same. All are off Thursday and Friday. Some are off Wednesday or have a 1/2 day. Some families go Th-Sun or Wed-Sun, some go for the whole week (like us - Sat-Sat). Last year, Tues was Election Day and some schools close for that, too, though ours doesn't.

I just hope everyone keeps being scared off by this because the past 2 years, Jersey Week crowds were minor and we had a great time with very little waiting in line for anything. We're looking forward to our 3rd annual Jersey Week visit.

My kids have always gotten off Thursday, Friday and Monday (for Veteran's Day). No full week off here.

We always get Thurs., Fri. (convention dates) and Monday for Veteran's Day. We've never been for Jersey week, but are thinking of trying it out this year. Glad to hear that the crowds weren't that bad for you the last 2 years, disneysteve! I've heard from some people that it's a very busy week, so I've sort of been on the fence about going then. If we do go, we'll be there Wed., Nov. 3, 'til Monday, Nov. 8, most likely.

How's the weather that week usually?? We just went to Orlando a few weeks ago (President's Day weekend) and it was horrible! I would really like to get some 80-degree, sunny days the next time we venture south!

Happy planning,
Sarah

We've been there for two years, at Jersey Week, and the weather is PERFECT!!! In the 80's the whole week. We wear shorts and t-shirts the whole time and we never had any rain! :D

I see your from South Jersey...anywhere near me?

I agree with Sharon. Very nice weather past 2 years.

By the way, I'm in Cherry Hill. Used to work in your neighborhood, Sharon. I was on staff at JFK Washington Twp for 7 years.
