Jennifer's Journal - I don't want to die, I want to go to Disney! (comments welcome)

I did alright yesterday. I varied from the eating plan slightly but no bingeing. I even walked 2 miles. Today, we had a yard sale -- eating plan slightly off --
B - cereal
S - here's the bad part - 3 oatmeal pies - 500 cal - YIKES

I plan to have a salad for lunch. Apple for snack and a chicken sandwich (no fries) for dinner. We'll be at the ball park for a game tonight. I don't know what to eat that's healthy at the game??? Gotta think of something!

Try eating at home right before the game. That way, you won't be as tempted to eat the junk. ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Hi Jennifer!!

How did the ball gmae go last night? I agree with Lesli...when things like that go on, trry eating at home right before you go. That way you're either not hungry, or if you do eat any of the "junk" you're likely to eat a lot less of it because you already have food in your stomach. Or carry small snacks in your purse or something...I typically carry some baby carrots or something. Every little bit helps. :)

I love the verses you find. Apples or carrot sticks are good to have on hand for snacking. I find that is when I fail in my eating plan when I don't have healthy stuff on hand. I was reading more on the DASH diet and it makes sense. Lots of fruits/veggies and low fat dairy and lean protein, whole grains. Hey, I like all that stuff! Sugar and salt are not good for me. I know where you are at!

How are you doing? :flower: Hope it is a good day.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions!
Good news -- I lost 2 pounds and my BP was normal on Monday! Seems as though we've found the right medicine to bring it down. Now the doctor says I can exercise. I also had a CT scan of my renal arteries and more blood tests this week. Hopefully we'll know whether or not my spikey BP is due to something else or just from weight/exercise.
All this keeping track and having a place to report has really allowed me to take a good look at my bingeing patterns. I have learned that 3:00PM and after the boys go to bed, like 9:00PM, are my most DANGEROUS times. I have to think about something to do during those times where I CAN'T eat. I will likely do my walking at night, so that takes care of the 9:00 time. But 3:00 is much more tricky. That's when the kids are home and snacking. Also if I can make it through the snacking time, then I'm really hungry when I'm cooking dinner. Then I sample while I am cooking and then I'm not hungry at dinner. I'm gonna have to give that some more thought.........

Also, I'm starting a "First Place" Bible study next week. It is a diet, exercise, and scripture memory program. I will share with you how that goes.

Also, my mom sent me five diabetes cookbooks. THanks Mom!

How are you doing Jennifer? I still struggle with implementing the Dash diet, but I am increasing my veggies! I also was a big Amazing Race fan, but now that spring/summer is here, it is nice to have the longer days to get out and do things. I am really working on my exercise program to try to get healthier. Hope today is a good day for you. :flower:

Hi Jennifer!

How's the "First Place" going? I saw some of their materials at our local Christian bookstore and though I didn't have the money to get any of it, it did look interesting. I'm interested in hearing about it!

Thanks calena and Mary.
We are starting "First Place" on Friday. I'll let you know.

So, what veggies do you eat in a typical day. So far I am limited to carrots, celery, and a pre-made green salad. I need options!

I've been so busy, I haven't been able to finish my diet books ("3 Hour Diet" and the diet book from the American Diabetes Assoc.) and I haven't had time to SIT DOWN and think out some new routines and habits I need to adopt -- like what can I do at the 3:00 hour when I want to binge that is an incompatible behavior to eating and what can I do in the evenings as a part of the evening routine that is incompatible with eating....

I think I'll start recording a food-pact here each day when I plan what I'm going to eat each day. Those days when I did that I felt like -- wow, I'll have to report in my DIS journal that I've eaten off my plan -- accountability!

Food plan for today (5/18)

B - cereal
L - peanut butter sandwich, carrot chips and dip
S - apple
D - pork chops, green salad, mac and cheese
S - popcorn

I will walk 2.5 miles this evening after choir practice.

Goal : To weigh in the 100's by the time we go to WDW in October.

There, now it's in writing.

"O Lord, You still the hunger in those you cherish" Psalm 17:14

Hi Jen!

I love your verse today! You find such great verses; I really appreciate you sharing them with us. ::yes::

Have a great evening! :flower:

Glad they found the right meds for you. Keep up the exercise. I read in Prevention how an exercise program (CONSISTENT) makes a tremendous difference in our health in as little as six weeks.

Hello Journal and DIS friends,

I lost 2 pounds! :cool1:

I decided not to use this forum as my daily food plan. As it turns out, the First Place Bible study that I'm doing requires a form to be filled out each day. Counting "exchanges" is a PAIN but I can do it for 10 weeks.

I'm on my way to ONEderland for our WDW trip in OCT!!!

Congrats on your 2lbs lost! :cool1:

Actually, I found that counting exchanges was really easy to do after you get the hang of it. I did it when pregnant with DS and was borderline gestational diabetes. I lost weight while I was pregnant with him, but he still turned out at 9.9lbs! Anyway, I found it helpful to plan the day out a little and then it was easy to figure out the exchanges before hand. After awhile you will be able to look at something and know how many exchanges it is worth.

One of my favorites (and only 1 exchange, if I remember right) was one serving of the sugar free chocolate fudge pudding w/ cool whip lite. A small package makes four servings. Make sure you get the chocolate fudge as it has a better flavor than the regular chocolate. With all the fruits and veggies in your diet, it will felt like a sinful treat every now and then and makes staying the course easier.

Good luck on your program! ::MickeyMo ::MickeyMo

Sounds like things are going better. Congrats on the loss!

I love your verses - I may not post, but I read every day.

Hang in there and have a GREAT weekend!

Morning!!! Sorry I haven't been around! Congrats on the loss of two pounds!!! Feels good, doesn't it!

FYI, our trip was pushed back until December. 2006. I can't wait that long!!!!!!!!

I've heard about First Place. I think it sounds like a great plan because it provides support, good food choices and it also looks at our spiritual lives. I wish our church would start one! Keep me posted on your progress. :flower:

Thanks for all the kind words!

We just got back from a great camping trip with 3 other families. One of the other gals is in my First Place Bible Study, so we kept eachother in line. I would say I get a B- for the trip as far as food goes. I get an A for exercise, however!

A verse that God is putting on my heart today:

"If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and folow me" Luke 9:23

Lord, Please help me to remember that saying "no" to a food that is not on my eating plan is my obediance in self-denial. Show me how to please You in everything I do, including in what I eat and drink.
Amen
