In order to prepare ourselves for a night at Jellyrolls next month (on the boardwalk... boardwalk..) DH and I are checking out the local version, Howl at the Moon, here in Chicago on Friday :teeth:

So being the obsesive planner that I am I started thinking about what I want to request and I am stumped..... and being stumped lead me here

What are some of your favorite songs to sing at Jellyrolls et all?

Just go once and you will hear them all. Those places always play the same songs over and over... Brown Eyed Girl, Piano Man, American Pie (is that the name?), any given Jimmy Buffett song...

I went by Jellyrolls tonight & decided to pass on the $7 cover charge. It was pretty dead anyway. I still have never been inside.

When I worked at Disney I was frequent guest at Jellyrolls on Sunday nights and Tuesday nights...CMs get in free. There are tons of great songs you can request. There is one piano player there that does a great rendition of Baby Got Back, it's hilarious. Also some good ones are Tiny Dancer, Drops of Jupiter, any Jon Bon Jovi song. I could go on and on, I got to know the piano players pretty well and they still recongnized me when I went back to visit. It's a great place to have fun and the drink specials some nights are really good. Any more questions just ask. If it wasn't so late I could list tons of songs to request.

Jellyrolls? Did someone mention Jellyrolls? Lot's of people around these parts know that I'm the resident Jellyrolls nut. Never miss it when I'm down there.

UncleKyle mentioned the piano player who does Baby Got Back. The one who does that is Ray, and he's one of my favorites. He also does a great "Big Yellow Taxi" and "Mack the Knife."

If you see Scotty at Jellyrolls, I love his "Buttercup" and he also does a hysterical "Rainbow Connection." He usually works with Ray, and together, they do a great "I've Got You Babe."

If you happen to go on a night when Christian is working, you should request "Love Shack." He does a great job on that one.

Basically, pretty much any Jimmy Buffet, Elton John, and Billy Joel would be a good bet. I've seen them do everything from Bobby Darin to Coldplay in the same night. Depending on who you see, Barry Manilow requests could lead to some teasing (although that doesn't always happen).

Jellyrolls is usually pretty dead the first hour or two, and really picks up around 10:00. I enjoy the first hour because it's usually really intimate, and the piano players will ask you for a song requests, and talk to the audience.

Have a great time. Be ready to sing, and dance along with everyone else in the bar. It's a blast.

Stick around late enough at Howl at the Moon and you'll get to hear songs they'd never play at Jellyrolls! ;) :teeth: :o

DH always requests "If I had a million dollars"
and I ask for Bon Jovi or Mellencamp.
"Jack and Diane" is a fav of mine to request.

I agree, the place doesn't start jumping untill 10pm or so.....then it gets fun:D

Now why did I KNOW we would see Karen here, LOL?!?!?! :p Fun place, Laura, good for a short evening for me, lots ofsinging. Smoke gets to me after about an hour or so, so I head out, but it is a fun, lively place.

Jelly Rolls is a favorite of ours!!!

...and Ray is absolutely the BEST! ::yes::

Of course I have to respond to a Jellyrolls post, Dan. Everyone would be worried about me if I didnt :)

Laura--if you can be flexible with the night you are going, it's definitely worth trying to catch Scotty and Ray. They really are a lot of fun--the best pair in my opinion. If you call over to Jellyrolls after 7:00pm, you should be able to find out who is performing that night. I don't know if they will give you that information a day or two in advance.

I just figured I'd briefly mention the other pairs as well:

Tommy and Jason--Tommy has been at Jellyrolls forever--I refer to him as the Jellyrolls legend. He is very laid back, and knows everything. Jason is a lot of fun, and very hyper. He is just a fireball onstage.

Drew and Christian--Drew is my least favorite of the Jellyrolls piano guys. I've seen him six times in the last year, and he seems very bored onstage. He also has zero personality. Christian is the newest of the six players, and he is very young and energetic. He's very animated onstage. He's only been there about a year, and is getting better.

Question for TLinden!(or anyone:))

Is there a cover charge every night? And if not, would you even recommend going on those "no-cover" nights?

Thanks.:)

There is a $7 cover charge every night, and it's worth every penny, as the piano players are fantastic.

As Uncle Kyle said, there are some nights when cast members get in free (I've never been there on a Tuesday, bu I hear that Tuesday nights can be pretty crazy in there).

Thank you for the photos Laurabearz.:)

And TLinden...I don't think I noticed that tag before...did you just get it? Was the Tag Fairy JUST here? Lol!:p

I can name those Piano Players in one note. Oh wait, we're not playing name that tune. We're playing name that Piano Player.

Of course, I can name them all.

In the top photo, the one on the left with the long hair is Tommy Bell, and the one on the right is Jason Pawlyk.

The middle photo is of one of my favorites, Scotty Kilwein (check out www.tree-o.com to find out information about the band he is in with his brothers--great music.

The one on the bottom is of my other favorite, Ray McGee. He sang "Dirty Water" for me last month :)

Wow they've added some new guys since I was there. Ray is one of the absolute best. What happened to the guy with the blond hair that always wore platform shoes? I think his name was Scott, he was one of the best!

I've had this tag since August, when I requested it after sitting on a bar stool and watching Scotty and Ray the last two nights of my trip. I just loved them, and wanted to have a tag so everyone will know who the best piano players at Jellyrolls are :)

I'm just glad that I didn't have to tip the tag fairy as much for the tags as I tip the piano guys at Jellyrolls.

That sounds like Scott Casey. I believe he's no longer at Jellyrolls, at least he wasn't there the seven nights I spent there last year.

I just found out that one of the piano guys posts the schedule for who will be working each night on the web. The schedule is posted about two weeks in advance. The address is: http://www.thepianomen.com/gpage1.html So, now you can look in advance, and go on a night when my beloved Scotty and Ray are working. If you see Scotty bouncing around the club, be sure to stop him and tell him Karen from Boston says hello :)

Here is a picture of me with Scotty:

Thanks for the link Karen!

I thought I would provide my .02 on Howl at The Moon Chicago...

First I am sooooo glad I bought a table... we arrived at 8 pm (early, I thought) but the place was JAMMED. Sardines.... very hot too. It was sooo packed (how packed was it) that a trip to the bathroom (only 2 stalls for the girls) took 20 minutes.

The duos were okay, but I gotta say the teams at Jellyrolls Orlando blew them away. Hands down.

It was a fun night.... and I am a bit worse for wear this morning (afternoon) and I suppose I would go to Howl again, since it is in town... but my heart belongs to Jellyrolls!
