Someone on a trip report mentioned that several people were stung by Jellyfish at CC on their recent cruise. I've never seen that reported before. How prevalent is this? Anyone else had problems?

Last time we were in the Bahamas - 10 years ago, 2 days before Hurricane Andrew hit - we never saw any trace of jellyfish.

They sometimes invade the beaches up here in New England and they are YUCK-ee!

Not sure, but I saw a few people that were bandaged from jellyfish stings. I think there were a few out on this cruise (July 6-13).

We were on the Magic (6-13 July) and there were several jelly fish stings. Apparently the teen beach was the most infested. My mother and I were at Serenity Beach and didn't see any. Saw one young man who had stepped on a sea urchin and he was in a little bit of pain. Jelly fish usually arrive on the tide after a full moon (my mother is an ocean person and passed on this info) so my guess is that if your cruise isn't around a full moon you shouldn't have any problems. There is also anti-sting that you can buy to use if you happen to get stung.

I had never heard of the full moon theory. We live near the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean and see them contantly from June until late September when the water starts to cool. If you are stung, put some meat tenderizer (Adolph's) on the sting to relieve the pain.

On our March 2001 cruise I saw a jellyfish on CC. It was floating about 3-4 feet from the shoreline right in front of where the lifeguard sits at the Family Beach. I thought it was a baggie that had gotten away from someone. Boy did I get a surprise when I went to pick it up and realized what it was-luckily I didn't get stung!!

Vinegar is also great to neutralize the pain.

I got stung by a jelly fish in Cozumel before when snorkeling. It is painful. Sometimes some of the jelly fish are so small that you don't see them until it is too late...

See the thread about sea lice listed at the top of the forum.
