What exactly is this? Is it a show? Also, will it be open the 2nd week of May even though the Star Wars ride is closed? My girls love Star Wars and are bummed we'll be missing the ride. Thanks!

What it is; they select children, about 15 for each show (I believe you go and sign up now for a show time) - they give them each a plastic light saber and a brown jedi cape and the Jedi Master instructs them on how to operate their light saber and shows them 'moves' (as my son says lol). Then as they're busy practicing their moves, out comes Darth Vadar and one by one they are allowed to practice and "defeat" him. I'm sure there is something on youtube. I believe it WILL be running and has no been closed.

Yes, that is correct. If your girls are between the ages of 4-12 and would enjoy being on stage against Darth Vader, then definitely have them do it. JTA is still running even though Star Tours is closed. Get to DHS at RD and go directly to the JTA stage to sign up your girls. They must be with you to sign up. The CM will give you a slip of paper for each girl with the showtime on it. Be back at the stage 30 min prior to showtime. Don't forget to get a Photopass card and get the pics put on it. They get some really great ones.

My 6 year old did this when he was 4 and LOVED it. He still remembers the whole routine and shows everyone his padawan training certificate. A friend of my took his son to WDW last week and wanted to sign him up for the training. People are not kidding when they say be at MK at RD and take you child straight over to sign them up.

They probably are kidding... if they tell you that.

I would say - head right over to JTA at Rope Drop - when at DHS. ;)

Yikes...rope drop!? I dont think thats going to happen, our 1st day for DHS is an afternoon 1/2 day and our 2nd day there is after 1900 Park Fare breakfast. Bummer. Well, we'll give it a shot anyways.....sounds like fun!

I have read in many places that the spots for the Jedi Training Academy are filled within 15 minutes of the park opening.

We were there on 4/17/2011 the Sunday of Easter break, we didn't get to the park until around 9:50 am because we were getting off a cruise, DHS opened at 8:00 am that day, I went right to TSM grabbed FPs and my wife and kids went right to JTA and were able to sign up for the 11:30 show, but we had ADRs at SciFi so we asked for the 1:30 show.

Our kids loved it - It was probably their favorite expierence all week long. We also forked over about 30 dollars in light sabers after the show because they loved it so much!

They actually had about 30 kids ages 4-12, 15 of them were on the stage fighting Darth Vader and 15 of them were on the ground fighting Darth Maul. Darth Maul was worth the price of admission to DHS - he was a fantastic actor. My kids both faught Darth Maul. The littler kids seemed to be up with Darth Vader. The older kids with darth Maul finished earlier and there was time for one extra kid - so my eldest got to fight twice! She was very happy about that. It was a great show, even if you didn't have a kid in it, because the Jedi master was funny.

So go when you can and you might get lucky and get a spot, the line to sign up is behind the stage. Also I think if you watch a show and a kid doesn't show up sometimes they take a kid. We didn't have any extra spots at our show - but one parent tried to put their kid over the rope, they had to tell the kid to go back (was a little sad, but the kid was fine with it.)
