Jaws down for maintenance

Jaws needs this rehab....... badly.

I rode it on 9/18, a day before it closed, and the ride was worse than usual. Many of the effects weren't timed or working correctly, and it just wasn't looking very good. Hopefully the rehab will fix many of these problems, even though Jaws isn't one of my favorites anyway.

Thanks, Slacking for posting your recent experience on Jaws. I had heard that the timing had been off for awhile with sharks not coming up and yet the skipper had to "shoot" the water with no shark.

I feel badly for all those who were looking forward to a ride and then finding it is down for rehab but I wanted to post the info so at least you would know before you got there. Most of these rehabs are scheduled for slow times. When you go during the off season, more rides will be down for refurbishment. Going during the off-season is great because you don't have to deal with crowds but you also take a chance of a favorite ride being down. Universal/IoA are very good about not having two rides being refurbished at the same time so the refurbishments are staggered. The first time I went to IoA in November, Dudley Do-Right was being refurbished. I was so disappointed but it was badly needed.

I have heard rumors that Back to the Future is way overdue for refurbishment. The ride is jerky and the film isn't as synchronized as it used to be. My guess is it will be the next to be shutdown for repairs. If it were my first time to go, I would really be upset to miss that one but they have to schedule it sometime. It's best they do it when the least amount of people are vacationing at Universal.

do you think it could go down with the next 14-20 days? Please say no..

No, it won't. Don't worry. They will not close two major rides at the same time. I suspect it will be after Christmas but before Spring Break. I haven't heard anything so I am just guessing though. I don't have any insider information or anything.

phamtom,
Did I read a post earlier that Ripsaw Falls will be down in Oct too? I can't seem to find the post???

Ripsaw just had a major rehab at the end of February. I seriously doubt it will be down anytime soon.

Maybe the thread was about last October when it was used for part of HHN. This year it won't be used for HHN.

I got a few ideas of how to improve BTTF, but they all involve demolishing the building.

It was good on HHN 10, because you got to ride it at night. You also got to walk on the bottom of King Kong when it was open

I remember that HHN very well! I also remember the scarey clown inside of the boathouse and there was this man in line whom I could have sworn was Harrison Ford (seriously!)
It was really neat walking around at the bottom of Kong in the fog looking up at kong thinking how tall it was. I think it was the following year they did the foam thing inside the kong building too. I thought that was pretty dumb just walking around in bubbles.
I have never cared much for Jaws. out of the hundreds of times I have been in the Studios, I have probably been on it three times. I don't care for the heat of the fire part or getting wet. also, can you say boring??

Bummer..... but thanks for the heads up!

I was looking forward to taking the girls on it during our October trip.....

Hopefully it will be closer to 3 weeks than 5... then we might have a chance, then again I used all my US ride karma for previews of Mummy!!

JP needs a refurb more than any other ride. It's getting pretty bad over there. Some people who've never experienced it before may find it ok, but the shape of the ride is downright awful compared to what it was like after it first opened. Have they even put the doors back on yet?

And then of course there's Mummy, but we won't get into that. :o

So when are we looking at Jaws Reopening here..maybe the week of November 1st that is 6 weeks from now, or longer than that??

This was posted by another Jaws skipper today:

There were so many problems with the ride that we had to shut it down. We had days where the sharks wouldn't pop up or even worse their teeth would fall out. And just because the sharks come up doesn't mean that they're properly working.

Beyond all the problems you could see the boats/the track were in serious need of some TLC.

So just breathe because in 3-5 weeks the attraction will be open again and all will be good in the Universe (no pun intended).

So it looks like it should be up and running again by Nov. 1st.
