Jaws closing

I am just flabbergasted! I have wrote my letter of disgust to the company regarding their decisions of late...
As people have already said, I travel with a large family group and jaws is one of the rides that my mother will ride and we enjoy as a group..
She ends up holding the 'bags' far too much lately. They cannot force her onto the 'newer rides' and guests will go on them anyway if they want to..

There seems no logic to any of this .. first King Kong.. perfectly enjoyable and different ever trip, depending on the 'driver', changes to revenge of the Mummy.. so my mum (who used to ride King Kong) is holding the bags again! then the Wild west stunt show changes to (from all accounts) a lame Fear Factor.. Alfred Hitchcock makes way for Shrek .. now I like Shrek but what was wrong with the huge soundstage that was 'murder She Wrote/Zena....
Universal have dropped the ball on this one in my opinion and with the new Disney passes I think my time will be spent there...

Jaws was going down for refurbishment anyway, but now they're just closing it a little bit longer to save money during a the non-peak time at the parks . It's more than likely just temporary, although it could suffer the same fate as Disney's "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea." It went on "temporary hiatus" and the next thing you know its a Little Mermaid photo op area. Jaws fate depends on how popular the ride is when it re-opens so I suggest you all get down to Universal when it reopens and ride it.

Thanks Phantom for the Universal link, I fired off my rant...wonder if they acknowledge it?

is maybe the reason they are closing it because it breaks down frequently or is costly to maintain??

i'm gonna! ;) We didn't see it the first time we were there cuz it was broked!! ...so, I would LOVE to see it before they "foolishy" retire it! Wonder if they have a plan for the space.... :scratchin....i'm guessin' not, or they would have just flat-out closed it!

i went on it in aug. and it looked ok. there were some parts that i saw in the distance that were getting really old and fake looking (i know its 1976 amity). i like the ride but since ive been on it twice, id be ok with them changing it to something bigger and better
maybe some kind of roller coaster...

btw i think fear factor is TERRIBLE
i remember when it was the www show one of the actors went behind my mom and secretly out straw in her hair
very funny moment
now we have to listen to david mackie make the same jokes every show
booooring

ii definetly think they should keep this and dump earthquake.
Just an FYI, I talked to someone that works at Earthquake and they told me that Earthquake has been running without the truck explosion. He said the truck just comes down and the hood opens. Sounds lame to me.
Maybe Jaws is closing being the boat runs on fuel and fuel costs are so high right now?

i bring my parents to US and Jaws is one of the only rides they like, not good news at all, i was on it yesterday, must make good use of it on monday and do it a few times

That's the rumor I heard plus, as momof3disneyholics mentioned, the fuel costs. I don't know how accurate those rumors are, just passing them on.

thanks....we don't blame you...we thank you for the info!

Why does USF need a 2nd coaster? And how would you propose to make a coaster fit on that (rather small) plot of land? The Jaws lagoon is just a loop. And lastly, what would a roller coaster have to do with 1970's Amity?

Jaws will probably be the last of the original attractions to go. Unless Universal shows more respect for those remaining and actually keeps them indefinitely ala Disney. The fact that it's a water ride makes it harder to get rid of to begin with, but more importantly, the theme of the entire area of the park known as Amity revolves around THAT specific ride. A removal of Jaws would mean an entire theme change for the area.

Say it ain't so!
We are planning our first trip to Universal in June 2006. Jaws was one of the reasons I wanted to go to Universal instead of Disney. We already missed King Kong. Not everyone wants roller coaster that are higher, faster, and with more G's. We just want some good family rides - ride the movies!!!

I would just like to say that being from the UK it wouldn't be just a hop and a jump to go ride it when it re opens. I have been lucky enough to manage to go once a year (almost) but never in the summer. So to say oh just go see it when it re opens is not an option for me. We have to book our flights over a year in advance to get the best rates. Lots of people see a trip to the states and Florida as a once in a lifetime trip!
Jaws is on every promotional material I have seen and people who have saved up long and hard all year will be mightily dissappointed when they find it closed..

They had a very long maintenance closure not so long ago so this is purely and simply a cost cutting/ shareholder pleasing decision... the shareholders must like to see large lines at their 'newer' rides...

Trust me......Bigger is not always Better!

Got my response from Guest Services @ Universal. Although I was warned that the message, along with any attachments, is confidential; I figured I could trust younz guys to keep it secret. Keep it quiet, or The Mummy will get you!!!!!!!!

In part re Jaws: "...attraction will be operating only for nighttime special events and for all guests during the holiday period. We're taking this step to bring the overall guest experience more in line with the kind of demand we expect to see in the months ahead. We'll be focusing more on our newer attractions...Shrek 4D and Revenge of the Mummy. This kind of seasonal adjustment is common in our business and you can expect to see JAWS! operating full-time at some point in the future. In the meantime, we're sorry for any inconvenience. Please keep watching us...we will have many exciting and new developments in the next few months."

Check our that last line, standard corporate bs or hint @ something cool? Oh, how I love to stir the pot. :rolleyes1

Can someone translate that? In English? Cause that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

As for "nighttime special events"... WHAT nighttime special events? HHN isn't in USF, and I can't think of anything else that takes place at night this time of year. More nonsense.

"Special events" are when a group rents out the park for the evening.

All the Jaws boats run on diesel fuel, and with the gas prices being high, it is a possibility.

But I think this ride will stay in existence.

Is there anyway of finding out exactly which dates the ride will be operating on? I'm going to be in Orlando (from the UK) between Nov. 29th and Dec 12th - right in between Thanksgiving and Christmas - and I want to know if it'll be operating on any of the days when I'm there, so I can catch this ride.

Does anyone knowif there's an operating schedule somewhere?
