I'm getting tired of this. A month can be a l-o-n-g time. Especially if it is January and the grey sky and snow contribute to the feeling of being fenced in.

I've done some free projects that make the house feel better. My bathroom cabinets are ready for a photo op. All the random, mostly used bottles, jars, and tubes are gathered in a basket where I can use them up and clear them out. My jewelry is sorted with earrings in a repurposed plastic box with dividers. Our spices are organized.

We've eaten some wonderful meals. And, a few slightly sketchy ones. (Today lunch will be a homemade sauce that simmered in the crock pot yesterday, served over three different sizes of spaghetti. I've got about 1/5 of a pound each of regular, thin, and angel hair that are getting dropped into the boiling water in order of appropriate cooking time.)

But 31 days of NO spending except for necessities is getting on my nerves.

Glad this board is here as a place for me to report and hold myself responsible to the choice I made for the month. You guys are great, not to mention entertaining and free!

Well I'm restocked with groceries and household whatnot after going to Target, Dierbergs & Schnucks. And I blew the entire budget for that for two weeks. But I stayed under!!! Mine and two close friends' birthdays are within two weeks of each other and every year we get together to celebrate. So I had to pick up a gift card at Barnes & Noble for one and a CD at Target for the other, and bday cards at Hallmark. Didn't like doing it, but its a tradition. This thread was in the back of my head the entire time! We're getting together next Sat. (my bday is Sun.) and I know it will be a good time. It always is. Just three 'girls' eating and carrying on. :goodvibes
Taking DD out today to a place to look at dresses for prom. I know, it's only January, but my DD is especially small and it is really difficult to find 'grown up' clothes for her. So we're starting the search early. I do not plan on spending any money today, however. Just ruling out a place we told about.
P.S. Hang in there annsteere. It's difficult, but it can be done!

12/15 No Buy days

Wow everyone seems to be doing so good. I have not been tracking, but I definitely made huge progress. Every time I thought about buying something, I stopped myself and questioned whether i really needed it. I pretty much made through the month. I did pick a few things at the Limited today, but it was 60% which is pretty good considering the prices at the Limited. I got 3 pr of pants, 2 sweaters, and 1 shirt all for $60.00. Hopefully there will be a no buy February thread.

Today was a 0 day. The weekend went much too fast!

Here's the weekend breakdown. I'm not sure I've ever had a Saturday no buy day before, but when it snows all day, that sure helps!

1/21: :cool1:
1/22: $26 clothes for boys (seriously, what are they doing to the knees on their jeans?)

no buy days: 9/10
dinners out: 4/4
non consumables purchased: 4/0

My non consumable number is going to go up soon -- I need a new pair of running shoes and socks and I'd like to get them soon so I've run in them a whole bunch of times before the half marathon.
Oh well!

Edited to add: I just spent a whole bunch of money on six pairs of socks. I've decided that they're going to be considered consumables since I tend to wear holes in the heels and since I've gotten rid of several of pairs that I hate. Good socks make me happy.

I had my girl on January 18. Lily Mae, 7 lb, 2 oz, 20.5". Hardly made it to the hospital... Water broke and she was here two minutes later. Her first trip to Disney World is coming up in June, so she will be a nice, portable 5 months old by that point.

Also have had at least five no-buy days, but life's been crazy this month and I needed stuff for the baby. Keep up the good work, I'm impressed by everyone's hard work on this thread. :thumbsup2

Congrats QVCshopper......:welcome: Lily Mae

Here is my goal for January:
Family of 3 with 1 dog. And several drop ins at any given time.

Groceries/household- $200/45.00 (eating out of the freezer this month) But, still need to stock up on a few things like soups. We went thru so much during the freak storm in Oct. Lost power for 11 days.
Car/Gas- $200/$45.00
Eating Out- $150/121.00
Entertainment/Misc- $200/208.00 (raised due to DD's 2 plays and 2 B'days

Goal of 15/12 No Buy Days

01/02-0-:cheer2: Calling it now. Brought my breakfast and lunch to work today. Not stopping for breakfast on my way to work 3 mornings is going to be a big deal for me. And going right home from work.[/QUOTE]
01/03-0-:cheer2: Spent the day with great friends going over our dinning ressies and what shirts we are planning on making for our up coming April trip to the World. 3 families, with 11 people. :cool1:
01/04-0-:cheer2: Brought lunch and breakfast to work. My DH said our local BK is going to go banckupt without me. lol
01/05-0-:cheer2: Calling it now. On Thursdays my work day is 2-7pm.. And by 7 it will be to cold to go anywhere but home. And usually Thursdays is my morning to hit the local stores shopping, Target by my house, and Walmart by my office. And that would lead into buying lunch out at Subway or BK both by the office. Today I stayed home putting Christmas stuff away and continued to reorginize my basement, washed all the bed linens and respace bagged all that we don't use. Seems like Storm Alfred threw our house in a tizzy that we just couldn't recover from. Bed linens were just folded and put every where downstairs. (we had extra guests during the storm. It was one big slumber party).
01/06 Today was a spend day. $45.00 in gas for the van, Target $5.00 (before coupons $16.48). Costco $30.00. Went to potluck dinner at our Disney friends. Got to discuss our trip again!!!! yah us!!
01/07 Costco $17.00 for my Dsis birthday cake. Had everything else on hand.
01/08 -0- :cheer2: Going home from work early and staying in for the night.
01/09 -0-:cheer2: No spending and I even got to go out to lunch and dinner today. Took my DFIL to the dr's and we always stop for lunch, his treat. And then when we got home my DMIL suggested we all go to dinner at Olive Garden, their treat as a thank you for all that we do for them. BTW did I mention we gave them $100 GC to Olive Garden for Christmas lol.

11/12 -0-:cheer2:
01/13 $50 Gas, $27.00 Walmart misc. items to be sent to Afghanistan $27.00 Target 2 movies for a school raffle basket and household.
01/14 $89.00 Costco, 3 Saturday addition of the paper $3.00 (counted toward groceries because I only buy it for the coupon).
01/15 $20.00 It was such a lazy day we order out for pizza. Never left the house/never even got dressed!
01/16-0- :cheer2:
01/17-0-:cheer2:Did Disney planning with friends!:cool1:
01/18$4.00 ate out for lunch
01/19 $5.00 chipped in for take out during a school meeting.
01/20 $60.00 gas,$40 for the van and $20 for the gas can. We were expecting a snow storm tomorrow. The extra gas is for the generater if we need it. $90.00 for show tickets for DD's 2 performances, $10.00 Costco. cheapest I've ever gotten out of here. Went in for milk and cream and made sure that was all I bought.
01/21 @3.00 Saturday paper for coupons. It was a snow day all day. Stayed in and made stew and mac and cheese.
01/22 This should have been a big spend day. But, thank goodness for gift cards. Cracker Barrel for lunch. The bill was $38.00, had a $75.00 gift card= -0- spent, Walmart, bill came to 42.00.00 had a $50.00 gc= -0- spent. PC Richards bill came to $74.00, had another $50.00 gc = $24.00. Target came to $24.00 minus coupons and a $5.00 gc= $2.00. So now that I have confused everyone total in purchases was $178.00. With GCs and coupons I spent oop $26.00

I made it a whole 5 days then completely lost track and fell off the wagon!:rotfl2: This is hard! I have stayed out of stores and have spent less than $100 on groceries so far this month so I'm going to feel good about that and try again next month. :hippie:

Next month I'll probably shoot for 6 no buys.

Goal: NO unnecessary spending (no eating out, no purchased entertainment, etc) and keep the grocery bill as low as possible while eating down the freezer and pantry.

Went to "Hugo" yesterday. I wanted to see it on a big screen and in 3D.

Caught a matinee and didn't buy any food at the theater.

Non essential spending for the month so far:
$2 for a future gift at Target,
$23 at thrift store (practical purchase of a coat and top, $1 for fun earrings)
$8 for a movie

Not perfect, but pretty darn good. Of $80 allowance for the month I still have $71 stashed in my underwear drawer to enjoy next month at Disney.

Thanks Wlake and wishesuponastar. The interview is not until next friday but I can use the pixie dust.
