Day Four
We elected not to take any cruise excursions this trip but had planned to get to a nice beach in St. Martin. So, we slept in and Steve (DH) went up to Topsiders and grabbed us a little breakfast to have back in the room. We got off the ship about 10:30am and caught a taxi to Le Galion Beach, which we had read about online as being a good place for little people. The road there was quite bumpy as we passed the Butterfly Farm but the beach was absolutely perfect! It was calm and warm, without any sudden drop offs. There were chairs and umbrellas to rent we sat 3 feet from the shoreline. There was a nice refreshment stand and clean bathrooms. Just down from where we were, there were water sports windsurfing, paddleboats, etc. The beach is surrounded protected by a natural reef, so you can hear and see the huge waves crashing in the distance. It was just the place we had wanted it to be! Not too crowded, sunny, lovely. We got there around 11:30 and we had asked the taxi driver to return and pick us up around 3pm, which he did (He was very prompt and courteous the ride cost us $6 per person, each way).
We had Shirley from The Perfect Gift include sand toys in Isabels (DD4) gift basket so we all played with those for a while. The water was warm and I sat on the shoreline for a long time, just enjoying the waves and the sand and the experience. It was so nice. Even though I vowed I didnt need anything to eat, I guess all that playing around in the water made us hungry because we ended up getting sandwiches and drinks, which were very tasty. 3pm came too soon and it was time to pack up and go.
We came back to the taxi stand near the ship and there was a golf cart offering rides right to the ship for $1 per person so we hopped on. All that laying around on lounge chairs and frolicking in the water is exhausting! We got back to our room and we all crashed in front of the TV until dinner. Now, as I was lying around, I noticed my legs felt a little warm. Eeks I guess I sat on the shoreline too long and apparently the waves had removed my sunscreen. I was red really red just on my shins. How lovely. I knew I needed Solarcaine but the ships store can open until we leave port so I put cold, wet towels on my legs and made the best of it. They actually looked worse than they felt for a while. But hey, if this is the worse thing that happened, Im not going to complain!
Dinner was in Animators Palate again this evening it was Pirates In the Caribbean night.
We were a little late for dinner and Alyssa was upset that Isabel wasnt there yet what good friends they had become! Our meal was fine I had fish and Steve had beef tenderloin. I really liked the banana and pineapple appetizer and the crab cake was pretty good. I tried the sugar-free rice pudding for dessert and it was also pretty good (I decided the sugar-free rice pudding cancelled out the chocolate soufflé and panna cotta I can consumed the night before for dessert at Palo.)
Isabel headed for the Oceaneer Club for Do Si Doh with Snow White and I went to Shutters to collect our pictures up to that point since they said they were going to start removing some photos to make room for the new ones. With Isabel in the club, we went to see The Incredibles in the Walt Disney Theatre what a cute movie! Our pager went off just 10 minutes before the end and it said that Isabel wanted to be picked up. Steve graciously volunteered to go get her and I selfishly watched the end of the movie. Im not too tormented with guilt over it.
We all met back in the room and then we headed up to Deck 9 for the Pirates In the Caribbean Party. We all enjoyed Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Goofy, Mickey, Minnie, the dancing, the fireworks. Someone was getting tired, though so Steve got cranky and pleaded with Isabel to take him back to our room. She decided to take care of her aging Daddy and we headed back to our stateroom. In the elevator, we rode with a gentleman who had the most delicious looking plate of food from the buffet but we were too full and too tired to get anything!
Because of a medical emergency, we had to return to Phillipsburg so someone could get off the ship. I hope everything turned out alright for that family! The ship had turned around while I was still in the Walt Disney Theatre. We were underway again away from the port by the time the fireworks went off at the Pirate party, though.
